Work Text:
Jisung and Seungmin sat side by side, looking over their potions books. Professor Snape had assigned an exam this week and Jisung could use all the studying he could get. Thankfully, Seungmin offered to help him.
However, their session was interrupted by loud footsteps.
“Jisung, can you smell this for me? I have to turn it in and I’m not sure I did it right.” Chan whined as he sat down across from the two and shoved a vile into Jisung’s hand.
Jisung looked over at the bottle filled with Amortentia and glanced at Seungmin to see if he was looking. He wasn’t.
Jisung shrugged, bringing the vile to his nose and inhaling. He thought for a second, eyes closed, before speaking.
“Hm, it smells like fresh citrus and book pages. It’s nice, I think you did it right.”
He explained, opening his eyes only to be met with Chan’s bewildered expression.
“What? Are you that shocked that it worked?” Jisung questioned, oblivious to the glance Chan threw Seungmin’s way.
Although, the Slytherin was too immersed in his book to be listening.
“Nothing. I’ll tell you later, I’ve got to go.”
Jisung watched as the blonde rushed out of the library before glancing at Seungmin.
“That was strange.”
Seungmin looked up from his book, locking eyes with the Gryffindor.
“What was strange?”
Jisung chuckled at the younger’s confusion, ruffling his hair. Earning a light smack on the hand.
“Ouch. Why can’t I touch your hair? You let Felix.”
Seungmin just laughed and turned back to his book.
“Oh, we’re not done yet. Answer my question, what does he have that I don’t?”
-
“Seriously, Chan. I don’t understand why you were so freaked out? I didn’t say anything weird.”
Chan looked at him in confusion.
“Really, Ji? You don’t know? You just described Seungmin. In front of Seungmin.”
“What are you talking about? I smelt fresh citrus and book pages, what does that have to do with-”
Wait, Book pages? Jisung hates reading. Why would he smell book pages? Citrus? The only person he knows that wears citrus is...
“Oh shit, oh my god.”
Seungmin. Seungmin loved it.
Jisung began to panic. What if Seungmin heard? He’s been pretty good at hiding his crush for the most part, but all of that would be ruined if Seungmin heard.
“What do I do? He doesn’t like me, oh my god, Chan, he knows I like him and now he’s going to hate me. What if he asks to switch potion partners? What if he never talks to me again?”Chan chuckled.
“Oh my gosh, Ji. Calm down. How do you know he doesn’t like you?”
Jisung stared at Chan, unamused.
“Come on, he’s Kim Seungmin, the smartest and sweetest boy in our year, and I’m just Jisung. There’s nothing special about me.”
“Who knows? He could be tasteless.” Chan muttered, earning a glare from Jisung.
“I'm just joking. But, seriously, you never know until you ask.”
Jisung scoffed at the thought of talking to Seungmin about his feelings. There was no way he was going to just walk up to Seungmin and ask him if he liked him.
“Yeah, and how would I do that?”
“Figure out what he smells.”
Wait a second, that’s actually a good idea. And Jisung knows just the way to do it.
-
Seungmin watched as the Gryfindor trotted into the class and plopped himself down, the smile never leaving his face.
“What’s got you so cheery today?” The Slytherin questioned, raising an eyebrow.
“Well, I was just wondering if you could help me with a favor.”
“What kind of favor?”
Jisung paused for a second, before smiling wider.
“Make Amortentia with me.”
Seungmin rolled his eyes, in no way was he going to help Jisung make someone fall in love with him.
“No way. Not doing it.”
Jisung huffed, shaking Seungmin’s shoulders.
“Come on, Seungie, it’ll be fun, please?”
Seungmin didn’t budge.
“I’m not helping you make someone fall in love with you.”
Jisung sulked, slumping a little into his seat.
Crap didn’t quite think this part through.
“Please, Seungminnie, I promise I’m not trying to make anyone fall in love with me, Chan bet me that I couldn’t make it better than him. I need to win, please Seungmin. Please.” The Gryffindor whined, drawing out the last syllable.
Seungmin rolled his eyes at Jisung but gave in. There’s no escaping Jisung’s pout.
“Fine. But, only if you stop whining.”
Jisung jumped in excitement, hopping into the Slytherin’s arms. Seungmin felt his cheeks warm as his body relaxed into Jisung’s grip.
Jisung was too busy smirking to notice.
-
“Hey, Seungmin look!”
Seungmin glanced over at Jisung, who had been holding a rose in his hand, presumably for the potion.
“For you.”
Seungmin rolled his eyes, grabbing the rose and taking off the thorns.
“Hey! You just destroyed my gift.”
“Gift my ass. We need it for the potion, you idiot.”
Jisung pouted, crossing his arms.
“You’re so unappreciative.”
This only made Seungmin laugh, ruffling the Gryffindor’s hair before speaking again.
“Oh calm down, you big baby. Once we are done, I’ll go get you a new rose.”
Jisung popped up in delight, automatically getting back to work.
“You better honor that.”
Seungmin playfully scoffed and put his hand to his heart.
“Of course, I will, your doubt wounds me.”
-
The two continued to make the potion, which somehow took longer than it should have. Not that Jisung was complaining.
Finally, the potion was finished and Jisung was in awe. The liquid was a beautiful blush and the smell was euphoric.
Jisung glanced at Seungmin, attempting to read the boy’s expression. But, the Slytherin was too focused on his potions book.
“What’s wrong? Does it smell bad?” Jisung questioned, glancing over at the book.
Seungmin shook his head.
“No, it’s not that. It’s just, that I think I forgot an ingredient. Do you mind smelling it or me? I’ve never smelt it before so I can’t tell if it’s right.”
Jisung sighed in relief, it wasn’t him disliking the smell. The Gryffindor leaned over the pot, smelling the potion.
“No, it’s the same as before. Fresh citrus and book pages.”
Seungmin busted into laughter then.
What?
Jisung looked confused, only making the other laugh harder.
Wait a second.
“You knew the whole time!?”
Seungmin was on the floor now, holding his stomach from all the laughter.
“You really think I didn’t hear you?”
Jisung scoffed. Yes.
“You never mentioned it.” He muttered, looking down at his shoes.
Seungmin knew he liked him. And he didn’t even say anything. Was it because he felt bad about having to reject him? Or was he only trying to make a fool out of Jisung?
“I wanted to see what you would do, can’t say I’m disappointed.”
Jisung groaned in embarrassment. Of course, he would act like an idiot in front of Seungmin. He was going to give Chan an earful later.
Seungmin giggled as he watched Jisung rake his brain for a response.
“Relax, Ji. It’s not like I don’t like you back.”
Jisung froze for a second. Seungmin liked him? Kim Seungmin?
“What?”
Seungmin looked at him and giggled.
“Jisung, I like you too. I thought it was obvious.”
Jisung was puzzled. When had Seungmin ever been obvious?
“No?! How was it obvious?”
The Slytherin huffed.
“Why else would I agree to be potions partner with someone as clumsy as you?”
Jisung’s eyes widened.
“I’m not clumsy.” He mumbled, crossing his arms.
“You definitely are, but I guess my heart decided to look past that. Not one of my best moments. ”
The Gryffindor sulked, glaring at Seungmin.
Seungmin playfully rolled his eyes, well aware that Jisung is not actually upset.
“I’m kidding, you big baby, I actually like your clumsiness.”
Jisung pouted, reaching out to hug Seungmin.
“You better be.” He mumbled into Seungmin’s neck.
“I am. It’s actually funny seeing you fall all of the time.”
“Hey!”
Bonus:
“Hey, Seungmin? I was wondering? What did the Amortentia smell like for you?”
Jisung asked, gripping Seungmin's hand and intertwining their fingers.
Seungmin thought for a second before smiling.
“It smelt like fresh parchment, firewood, and your cologne. Not gonna lie, the first time I smelt it, I thought you had just worn too much cologne. It was so pungent. ”
He didn’t even wear it that day.
“Well, Kim Seungmin, I guess I’ll have to wear it more often since you like it so much.”
Seungmin laughed, squeezing his hand tighter.
“Maybe you should.”
