Work Text:
i don’t know what came over me
(it was the alcohol)
(it was the snow stilling in the air like a gasp)
(it was the way you brushed your shoulder to mine)
(it was you)
but when i kissed you up against that tree
(of course it was you)
i think i condemned a little part of you to stay with me
beyond just tonight.
(it’s been you, this whole time)
and when i ran from you
i swear i meant to give it back
but i caught a look at you behind me
dazed and pretty and fixed like i’d painted you there
and in that second i decided to keep what i have of you
sacred.
tucked away in the quiet space behind my chest.
(finders keepers)
now i’m sitting on this dim damned plane
turning over in my fingers that piece of you i stole
(because you kissed me back)
(you melted in my hands)
(you moaned into my mouth)
and despite everything, i smile, just barely, to find
that i think i could live off this bit of you forever.
