Chapter Text
“But what am I without you?” Tommy breathlessly asked, he couldn’t lose Tubbo, he couldn’t-
“Yourself” Tubbo smiled, pretending he wasn’t shit scared. For fucks sake he couldn’t die! Not like this, they were so close!
“Come on,” Dream grabbed Tubbo by the arm and pulled him away from Tommy
“No! No! It can’t end this way” Tommy desperately reached for Tubbo who was pulled out of his reach, causing him to fall to the ground like the pathetic child he was.
“It’s okay, Tommy, I had a good run,” Tubbo’s voice sounded choked, he was pretending he wasn’t scared but it was so damn obvious, he never was a good liar. Tommy looked up at his best friend, axe pressed to his throat, the smiling fucking mask behind him boring into Tommy's soul. In one quick movement Dream sliced the young boys throat, blood poured out and he dropped to the ground, choking on the blood pouring out from both his throat and mouth.
“Tubbo!” Tommy screamed, scrambling to his best friend. He picked him up and desperately put a hand over his throat as if he could somehow stop the bleeding. “No, no, no, c’mon Tubster, stay with me,” he knew it was fruitless but he had to try, had to do something, he couldn’t lose him, not like this, not like this, not like this.
“Dream, please! We have to help him, please!” Tommy begged, holding his dying friend in his arms, Dream only stared back. Tommy clutched Tubbo close to his chest, he was getting soaked in his blood. Tubbo’s hand weakly grabbed Tommy's hand that was covering his throat, he was gurgling blood and pain swirling in his eyes. This couldn’t be real, it just couldn’t be real, this was a nightmare and he’d wake up any second now. Tubbo was in pain, he was in so much pain, what could he do? What could he do? Tubbo’s hand went limp, he stopped making sound, Tommy saw the life fade from his eyes.
“Tubbo? Tubster we’re- we’re going to get out of here we’ll be okay, you’ll be okay… Tubbo?” he desperately clung to the limp body. He’d failed him, Tubbo was dead and there was nothing he could do. Tommy let out a scream, he screamed like the world had just fucking ended because it did. Tommy clutched his body close to him as if he could keep him alive just by doing so.
This couldn’t be happening.
“Tommy, let him go, it’s time we leave,” Dream said, ignoring the world crashing down around him
“You killed him” Tommy whispered, head pressed into the blood-soaked corpse.
“Yes, yes I did,” Dream sighed
“You killed him!” he shouted, trying to dig the message into Dreams head
“Yes, Tommy, I did. Though, he wouldn’t have died if it weren’t for you, would he?” Dream knelt down in front of Tommy
“What?” Tommy breathed
“You brought him into this little fight of yours and look what happened” he gestured to Tubbos limp body “none of this would have happened if it weren’t for you”
“Shut up” Tommy whispered, mind racing and never seeing an end.
“Aw, no more tears, Tommy” Dream wiped Tommy's blood-covered face. He didn’t realise he’d been crying.
“Get your hands off of me you bastard!” Tommy moved his head away, refusing to move his hands and let go of Tubbo.
“We can either do this the easy way or the hard way, Tommy, it’s up to you” Tommy merely glared at Dream who sighed dramatically “very well” he flipped his axe and struck Tommy in the head with the hilt.

“Sam!” a distressed voice called from outside the prison, Sam pulled up the security cameras and was shocked to see a bloodstained Dream carrying an unconscious Tommy. What happened? Sam made his way out of the prison quickly as possible, worrying that Tommy might be in desperate need of medical attention. But why come to the prison for that? Question for later, Sam.
“Dream, what happened?” Sam finally reached the man in a deep green cloak and smiling mask, covered in dried blood.
“Tommy he-” Dream gasped for air and dumped Tommy on the ground, Sam knelt down to make sure the kid was alright “He lost it, Sam, he- he killed Tubbo”
“What?” Sam asked, aghast at such an accusation. Tommy killing Tubbo? He would never do that- the boys were practically brothers, after all.
“Sam, I don’t know how to explain it, he just lost it- all over some discs!” Dream paced around the lawn “he’s not safe Sam, especially not now”
“Are you suggesting I…?” Sam trailed off, not daring to finish the question, Dream knelt down and placed a hand on Sams shoulder.
“Yes, Sam. We put him in the prison, at least until we know he’s safe to be around,”
“Dream, I- I don’t know, he’s just a kid,” Sam said, glancing at the unconscious boy.
“So was Tubbo.” Dream said “Sam this isn’t a request, it’s an order. I’m doing what’s best for the SMP”
Sam slowly nodded and picked up Tommy, he didn’t look as if he could kill someone, let alone Tubbo. However, Sam couldn’t defy Dreams orders, he was a warden with a job to do. He told Dream to wait outside as this would be a lengthy process, especially with an unconscious prisoner, but Dream insisted on being there. At first, Sam wanted to just place Tommy in one of the smaller, less complicated cells, Dream didn’t like that idea.
It was a strange image, seeing Dream place the unconscious Tommy into the maximum-security cell. It was even stranger, to think of Tommy killing Tubbo. As much as Sam respected Dream, he felt as if he wasn’t telling the full story. Tommy and Tubbo were just kids, soldiers and politicians - yes - but still kids. Maybe Sam just couldn’t wrap his mind around the thought of Tommy doing such a thing, he’d been through a lot, maybe he just finally… snapped. Sam wouldn’t blame him but still... Killing Tubbo? How could he even do such a thing? Maybe Dream was right, keeping an eye on him might be the best course of action, if Tommy had finally snapped he’d need to be kept far away from everyone else, for their safety and his own.
