XD was dying.
It had been slow at first. Insignificantly small pieces of him were being ripped out and, as his being as a whole was infinite, he’d barely noticed.
But for months, years maybe, his divinity had been slowly depleting, until one day he realized that his connection to Limbo had been almost completely severed. A whole chunk of him was about to no longer exist. And it was a small fraction of an infinite, but it was one he could no longer ignore regardless.
From there, it kept getting worse. The human, Dream, the one that was stealing away his being piece by piece, was getting greedier. More impatient. More foolish. XD needed to stop his act of hubris.

"You know, you could use your chosen one to carry out your bidding” Foolish pointed out after a moment of reflection. “But nobody is gonna rally beside Tommy right now. They’ve all been wounded far too deeply by the events you refused to stop. There is no understanding between them. No empathy. No care. They’re divided, scattered, lost. We need to fix that from the roots”.

“It’s been five days since you died,” Dream stated.
The words were so matter of fact and emotionless that Tommy felt his softly burning anger rage inside of him. “It’s been over two fucking months for me, bitch,” he spat out, his voice louder than he had let it be for days, the sound bouncing off the oil-dark walls and striking back at his ears.
“Three days since I revived you,” Dream continued, ignoring Tommy’s interruption for once. “And during those five days, we have not had a single visitor.”
_______________Or: No one came to ask Dream to revive Tommy, and still trapped in prison, Dream won’t let Tommy forget it. All he can do is ask his friends for their explanations and hope for the best.

“You know what, Tommy?” Dream’s voice had shifted to a honey-sweet tone. “I have actually thought of something I could do with both of you alive. So, y’know what, I’m going to be nice! Which I really shouldn’t be, considering you’ve killed me, but I kinda admire the boldness of that. Just one small thing. I need you to kill Tubbo first.”
“What?” Tommy blinked, more confused than anything at the contradiction.
“Oh, nothing permanent. We’ll bring him back straight away, but neither of you will die again. You’ll be our way of testing the prolonged effects of revival, you see.”
“Dream, we have each other for that.” There was a note of desperation in Punz’s voice that, even in his dazed state, Tommy could not ignore. “We’ve revived each other-“
“Yeah, yeah, but we’re dying all the time. What if there’s effects, like, months after we don’t know about because of that! Besides, aren’t you lonely when I’m gone? If I keep Tommy, and you keep the ram, we’ll always have someone to talk to then.”
