Chapter Text
The Sakamaki household wasn't a good one. At least for Yui Komori, a human thrusted in a world she knew very little about. The world of vampires, that is.
She's lived with them for... She's lost track of time. With all the pain the brothers put her though, maybe that's for the best. It makes sure that she won't get too sad if she thinks about her living situation at the moment.
The house was filled with six sadistic brothers. Shu, Reiji, Ayato, Kanato, Laito, and Subaru all torture her on a semi-regular basis, some more than others. And Yui started to get sick of it.
She did feel sorry for the brothers, they weren't always this way after all. At some point in time they might have been nicer people. Sometimes, Yui sees glimpses of them being kind, and hopes for a way for them to be like this all the time. But it never lasts. Once Yui starts to get comfortable, they pull the rug out from under her. Hurting her metaphorically and literally.
So one day she asked herself if they were worth the pain, if the fact that they were hurt makes it okay to hurt her, if she could actually help and change them, and if that was her job. After arguing with herself, she came to an answer that she had mixed opinions about: No.
So, with this new thought in her, Yui was about to attempt the impossible. She was about to escape from the Sakamaki house, and by extension, the brothers. She knew the consequences of her actions if she was caught. She would be punished. But at that moment, she didn't care. She just wanted to feel free, even if she would get hurt in the end.
She packed light, only having a toothbrush and toothpaste, some pocket change that she had to “borrow” (not her proudest moment), a few days worth of clothes, and the knife that Subaru gave her. She knew that she would never use it- at least she hoped she wouldn't have to- but it might come in handy, right?
Yui walked to the door, opening it as quietly as she could. Cringing slightly when it made a slight creak, she closed the door, and walked backwards a bit. Then when she was far enough away from the door, she walked normally, but as quietly as humanly possible.
She stepped on the carpeted floor as silently as she could cautiously looking around her.
'So far, so good...' Yui thought to herself.
“What are you doing Yui?” A familiar voice asked.
Yui felt her eyes widen in shock and fear. Slowly, she turned around. It was Subaru.
“Oh Subaru... I was just going to get something to drink. Nothing else.”
“Why do you have a backpack on then?”
‘Shoot! He might find me out! Think Yui, think!’
Yui looked behind her, pretending to be oblivious, “I didn't even know I had this on. Where did this come from?”
Subaru clicked his tongue. “Yui, I know you're lying.”
‘No, no, no, no!’
“But, if you give me some blood, I won't tell anyone.”
Yui was surprised. “Do you mean...”
“Just come here before I get angry!”
The human complied with Subaru, stepped forward, and offered her neck to him. The vampire bit down, hard. It made Yui wince, but she bit her tongue so that no sound would come out.
‘This is something I definitely won't miss...’
After what felt like hours to Yui, Subaru stopped. He then said, “Once you get out of the gate, start to run,” He looked directly into Yui's eyes, “And don't look back. Also, make sure to get something from the kitchen to hide your scent.”
“Why are you helping me?”
“I want to see they look on my brothers’ faces when the realize you're gone.”
It did hurt Yui a bit that Subaru was only helping her with this task because of his brothers' reaction and not because he cared about her, but that's what she'd come to expect with Sakamakis. Even if she hoped he cared deep down.
“Oh, well, thank you either way...”
“Eh, whatever. Just be quick.” And with that, Subaru walked off.
