his favorite things about june

Summary:

“Heyyy, Marco?” Jean said, a teasing tone in his voice. Marco hummed again, still nuzzling his neck. “What do you have there?”

A devilish grin crept its way on Marco’s face. Jean didn’t see it, but he felt it against his skin. He’d known Marco for as long as he could remember, so he could picture it perfectly, glistening eyes and everything.

Jeanmarco Week 2021 (Day 1) — Pride / Domestic

Notes:

HAPPY JEANMARCO WEEK!

I've been in this fandom since 2015, and I cannot believe that this is the first time I'm participating in Jeanmarco Week, aaaa! I'm also super honored to be helping with hosting it this year <3

I know the point of having two prompts per day was so that everyone can pick what they want... but I decided to challenge myself by trying to combine them. So without any further ado, here's some College AU Jeanmarco!

Day 1 — Pride / Domestic

Work Text:

Jean dreaded the sixth month of the year as much as he loved it.

And he liked June a lot.

For starters, his summer semester ended on the first week of June, and after that, he had two whole months for himself. No early mornings, no courses, no books… This year, they all had plans of going to Europe at the end of the month, right after Marco’s birthday—another reason Jean liked June—and although he wouldn’t mind catching a break from his friends, he found himself looking forward to it.

But no month could be perfect, and June had a bunch of bad omens up its sleeve, like finals, for example. If Jean had to look at another art history textbook, he was going to lose it. Then, there was the weather. Jean hated, hated hot weather, and the temperature only kept rising. Even with the AC blasting cool air on his back, Jean felt as if he was melting. Not to mention the sweating. Or the shorts. Sunburns. Hot cars.

“Jean, I’m home!”

Rainbow capitalism.

It should be noted that Jean loved his boyfriend more than anything else on the planet, but sometimes he wondered if the feeling wasn’t mutual. Not that he doubted Marco’s loyalty or anything like that. No, Marco had been very clear with the fact that he loved Jean, but he also hadn’t failed to showcase how much he loved buying every pride-themed item he came across whenever he went shopping. If there was one thing Marco Bodt loved more than him, Jean thought, it would be his mall trips during June.

“You don’t have to announce it every time, you know,” Jean said as Marco leaned down to kiss his cheek. He smiled at the gesture. “I saw you come in.”

Marco hummed, leaving a trail of kisses across his face and neck. “But I like announcing my arrival…”

Jean liked it too, but he wasn’t about to admit it out loud—not when Marco had entered the dorm with a handful of shopping bags they didn’t need, and was clearly trying to warm up to him.

“Just some stickers…”

Jean raised an eyebrow, spinning his chair around so he could face Marco after he pulled away. He’d been on point about his expression. “Really?”

Marco nodded, plopping down on the floor so he could reach for the bags. After some shuffling around, he took out, not one, but three sticker sets with pride flags. “Stickers.”

“Are you sure that’s all?”

Jean tried not to laugh as Marco struggled to bite his grin back. “Sort of.”

“Uh-huh…” Jean crossed his legs. “Go on.”

He’d been lying if he said he wasn’t entirely interested in what was in the other bags. Sure, in retrospect, they didn’t need any of these things, but it kinda felt like Christmas, watching Marco open bag after bag.

“A bracelet,” Marco said, presenting Jean with the rainbow accessory. He placed it on the floor next to the stickers, and then proceeded to take out of the bag another, identical one. “Two bracelets.”

“Is the second one for me?” Jean asked, amused.

Marco shrugged. “Is it?” he said with a grin. He didn’t waste a second as he moved to the next bag. “I got some socks too.”

Jean groaned. “Marco, it’s literally two-thousand degrees outside—”

“You’re exaggerating!” Marco said. “Besides, these ones are for me. Unless, of course, you want me to go back and get you a pair too—”

“No, thank you!” Jean interrupted him. “Anything else?”

“A tote bag.”

“Why?”

“A hat.”

“At least that one’s useful.”

“The ugliest seal plushie I’ve ever seen in my life.”

“Why did you buy it then?!”

“A pair of glasses.”

“You know you’re never gonna wear them.”

“Paper flags.”

“Again?!”

“And some sodas.”

“Marco, I swear to—oh. That’s great, actually, thank you,” Jean said, causing Marco to giggle. He stood on his feet, his newfound belongings forgotten on the floor, and walked up to Jean again. “What am I gonna do with you?”

Marco smiled, showering his face with kisses. “Take me out to dinner?”

And how could Jean possibly say no to that? After all, summer dates were one of his favorite things about June.
