Apollo’s keys clinked against each other as he used the newly acquired key. He hadn’t had the chance of using it much as he was always with the owner of the apartment who had the exact same copy.
Any other day, this action would have made him giddy.
Not today.
Apollo took out his wet shoes and left his coat by the door. He was trying to fix his hair that had been messed up by the rain, when he heard the first arpeggio coming from a familiar acoustic guitar.
His chest felt heavy as he recognized the song.
Apollo quietly made his way to the source of the music. The plucking of the strings didn’t stop even when Apollo opened the door.
Klavier was seated on the floor in front of the open window. The floor of the balcony was soaked wet by the rain, still the water stopped on the windowsill preventing the inside to get wet. The droplets were a mellow companion to the voice of the blond.
“I remember tears streaming down your face when I said I'll never let you go, when all those shadows almost killed your light ”
Apollo heart ached as he saw the broken envelope next to Klavier.

“I remember you said don't leave me here alone, but all that's dead and gone and passed tonight ”
Apollo took a seat next to him. He heard the ruffling of paper under him and reached to move it.
“Just close your eyes, the sun is going down,”
As he picked the paper he couldn’t help but read it.

Dear Mr. Gavin;
It is of our displeasure to inform you that this afternoon, Friday twenty first of June year two thousand and twenty eight, the accused Kristoph Gavin is to atone for his crimes and hang to death—
He shut his eyes.
“You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now ”
Apollo turned to his boyfriend. There was this hollow sound to his usually honey-like voice. There was this dark, hypnotic overlay to him. A dusk only the music he gave could pierce.
“Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound ”
Klavier fingers danced over the guitar’s neck. Apollo wanted to reach out and touch the veins on his hand as skillful fingers plucked the strings.
The blond closed his eyes as if he were concentrating on this tricky part of the song.
Apollo knew Klavier's ace with the instrument. He knew he was bracing himself for the rest of the words, praying they’d come out as a melody instead of a sob.
“Don't you dare look out your window, darling everything's on fire, the war outside our door keeps raging on”
Apollo saw his lip tremble, the first sign of hesitation, as he said the next line;
“Hold onto this lullaby even when the musics gone, gone”
The verse ended with a single fret. His eyes welled with a single tear.
“Just close your eyes, the sun is going down”
The prosecutor seemed adamant on letting the tears fall.
“You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now”
He skillfully and perfectly managed to put his mask on hiding how deep this song cut.
“Come morning light, you and I'll be safe and sound”
Apollo felt his heart tearing apart.
Klavier never used that mask with him.
The brunet slowly raised a hand. He hesitated for a second but immediately found his courage back as his fingers dived into the blond locks.
His fingers scratched against Klavier’s scalp.
A painful frown overtook the blond expression as his walls crumbled.
“Just close your eyes…”
Klavier unconsciously leaned into Apollo’s hand.
“You’ll be alright…”
The first tear fell and it broke a path for the rest to follow.
“…Come morning light—“
Klavier fingers, so unlike him, clumsily stumbled over the last chord as his voice broke.
“…you and I—…”
Sob.
Apollo moved the guitar from his way and cradled the cries against his neck. The prosecutor's arms surrounded his torso as his face dove further against the Attorney's shoulder.
Apollo leaned his head against Klavier as tears fell from his eyes as well.
His hold tightened as sobs shook the frame of the blond.
Apollo wasn’t a singer, he couldn’t chant melodies, he couldn’t perform lullabies…
“You and I’ll be safe and sound.”
…but he could keep promises.
