Jean would be lying if he said he hadn't been terrified of the trip to Jinae. Despite the fact that he and Marco had been together for over five years, Jean had never met his family.
Until today.
He knew Marco had talked about him in his letters home—Jean had even left little notes and doodles for Marco's family in some of them—so the awkward ice-breaking questions had been out of the way for a long time now, but Jean couldn't help but stress over making a good first impression.
But, in the end, it only took a few seconds for him to feel right at home.
First, there were Marco's parents. His father was, unsurprisingly for a Bodt, kind-hearted, always cracking jokes and sharing stories about his family, and his mother was a charming woman, whose sassy attitude was easily found in her son. Meanwhile, Marco's siblings never seemed to end. He had two older sisters—Jean had been terrified of meeting them, but they ended up spending most of his time at the Bodt's together. Then there were the twins, just a few years younger than Marco, a boy and a girl, both causing trouble in their own way, another sister that was a bit younger than them, and finally, Marco's youngest brother. No wonder Marco had barely been affected by sleeping in the military's barracks when they were trainees; he was already living with a small village back at home.
And yet, somehow his family had made enough space to empty out a room just for the two of them, even though they were only gonna be staying with them for three days.
“So… still planning on running out the back door when no one's looking?”
Jean smiled as Marco lay down next to him on the bed, wrapping his arms around him.
“Dunno,” he said, making himself comfortable in Marco's arms. “Verdict's still out.”
Marco chuckled, kissing his forehead. “Just be grateful my aunt didn't stop by.”
“Aunt?!” Jean said, earning another giggle from Marco. “You mean to tell me there are more Bodts I haven't met?”
He relaxed a bit when Marco's hand found its way in his hair, sighing and snuggling closer. “I thought more Bodts was the plan?” He pressed another kiss on Jean's temple. “Or was it more Kirschteins?”
Jean found himself smiling at the comment. “No… it was Bodts.”
“Mmhm… starting with you.”
Jean laughed softly, his eyes meeting Marco's. “Oh, is that what the ring on my finger is for? I hadn't realised.”
Marco kicked him playfully, and then they both found themselves laughing in the dark, sharing kisses and stories from dinner.
Jean couldn't wait to be part of his family.
