How To Build A Strong Pack

Summary:

What happens when Noah finds Stiles on the couch with Peter? He has seen men like Peter before and now it looks like he is going to have to protect his under age son.

Stiles doesn't trust Peter and looks to another source for answers. Will the pack be able to build strong bounds or will everything fall apart.

Notes:

There has to be more stable territories out there and with Stiles' knack for research I know he would find someone to talk to about all this stuff.

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Chapter Text

Stiles woke to the sun coming through his window. He stretched his arms above his head and winced in pain. Groaning he rolled out of bed to start his morning routine. Now that he was up and half dressed he stood in front of his dressed. He was looking at his drawer full of t-shirts trying to decide on the one he wanted.

“Stiles.” Noah stuck his head into Stiles’s room. “What are you doing?”

“The polka, what’s it look like I’m getting dressed.”

“Melissa said it would be better for you to wear button up shirts for at least a week.” Noah took the shirt Stiles had picked out of his hand.

Huffing Stiles marched over to his closet, pulling the door open. Most of his button ups were plaid which suited him just fine, reaching in he grabbed a dark green and black flannel. Slipping it on he turned to head out the door, ready to get something to eat.

Noah walked out of the room ahead of his son, heading for the stairs. “Come on kid lets make some breakfast, I have the day off so how bout we just take it easy today?”

Stiles had the biggest smile on his face. It had been a long time since his dad had been home on a Sunday morning so they could have breakfast together. He followed his dad down the stairs. They made scrambled eggs with toast and juice. Stiles felt lighter today then he had in months. Having spent most of the night before talking with the wolves and Melissa about everything that had happened since Scott had gotten bit. And even though Scott still refused to join the pack, there were no more secrets between them. His dad had said he could stay in the pack as long as there was full disclosure. And he got to come to any pack meeting he choose.

Stiles had asked Derek where that put his dad in the pack. Peter answered that Noah would be pack adjacent. They would not have the same bond they had with Stiles but they would still protect and care for him.

After the dishes were done Stiles and his dad went to watch some basketball. They hung out for about two hours when the phone rang. Getting up Noah answered it in the other room. When he came back he had an apologetic look on his face. “Sorry kid, I just got called in. I won’t be gone more then a couple hours”

A pain went through Stiles, he had been enjoying this rare time with his dad. But they still had hospital bills from when his mother was sick. So he put on a smile. “That’s fine dad, there was some things I wanted to check out before I meet with the pack tomorrow.”

“I know you want to be there for the first day of training. Just don’t do anything to get yourself even more hurt.” Stiles could see the worry in his dads eyes.

“I will just sit and watch, Scouts honor.” Stiles held two fingers to his forehead.

“Stiles you were kicked out of the scouts.” Noah huffed.

“If it will make you feel better you can text Derek and tell him he can tie me to a tree if need be.”

“I don’t think that will be necessary.” Noah pulled his son in for a one arm hug, being carful not to hug him to hard.

Following his dad up the stairs Stiles went into his room and booted up the laptop. Sitting down he typed ‘Humans in a werewolf pack’ into his search engine. What came up was mostly romance novels and wolf pack dynamics. After about an hour of searching he came across a forum called ‘human knowledge is limited’. He had hit a wall with what he was looking for so he clicked on the site.

He was met with a questionnaire before he could even get invited onto the forum.

1. Name two supernatural creatures. Werewolf and Kanima

2. If you were turned into a supernatural creature what would you do? Freak the fuck out then research the shit out of it.

3. What supernatural creature can improve the world? Anyone can improve the world or burn it down.

4. What is your favorite supernatural creature? Werewolf maybe?

5. Do you have a question for me? Where do humans stand in a werewolf pack?

Stiles answered the questions the best that he could. Even though he had, had a hard time with number three. With only fifty characters it was the best he could come up with. He had thought about Peter and how he was both before his death and after. And though he may be planning to stab them all in the back, he seemed to have mellowed out. He couldn’t help but ask, what if he really only wanted to help the pack.

A ding told Stiles he had a message on the forum. It read: Your application has been submitted and is under review.

“What does that mean?” Stiles asked no one in particular. Shrugging it off he went back to his original search. He needed to know if what Peter had said about the humans in a pack was true.

Leaning back in his chair Stiles popped his back, he felt like an old man. Looking at his screen there was about fifteen tabs open to all the different sights he had been leafing through. When he noticed the tab with the forum was blinking.

He pulled it up and it read: Your application has been approved. For live chat fill out your information and submit a time after 4pm Mountain time.

Stiles knew better then to use his real name or even his very recognizable nickname. So he went with a shortened version of his middle name, Cassander. Going by Cas he answered the last question.

‘How did you find out about the supernatural?’ My friend was bitten by a werewolf.

He put in a time for 4:00 for a live chat.

Looking at the clock he saw it was almost lunch time. Stiles went down stairs to fix himself a sandwich. Digging a Pepsi from the back of the fridge, where he had hidden them from his dad, he went back to his room. Coming through the door, Stiles nearly threw his food into the air. Sitting at his desk going through all the tabs on his laptop was the once dead Peter Hale.

“I told you that you could ask me anything you wanted.”

“How did you get in here?” Stiles put his food on his desk, then shoved Peter’s shoulder to make him get out of his chair. “And I already told you that I don’t trust you. So sue me if I want to see if I can verify what you’re telling me or at least get a second opinion.”

Standing Peter went to lean on the open window. “Derek could confirm what I’m telling you.”

A loud bark of a laugh left Stiles’s mouth. “You mean mister Sourwolf? I don’t think I’ve ever heard him say more then five words at a time. Getting him to talk is like trying to teach Jackson mathematical physics.”

Peter sighed. “He never was a big talker. But do you really think that it is a good ideal for you to be telling a perfect stranger all about us?”

“One, I’m not going to tell them all about us. And I will only use code names if I do say anything. They don’t know where we live or even my name. Besides I’m just asking about pack dynamics.” Stiles took a bite of his sandwich.

“Would you mind if I stayed while you have your little talk?”

“Chat.” Stiles spoke around a bite of food. At Peter’s raised eyebrow he swallowed. “It’s called a chat not a talk.”

“Oh, I beg your pardon.”

“It’s fine, guys your age just don’t get internet speak.” Stiles gave Peter a cheeky smile. “How old are you anyway?”

A thoughtful look crossed Peter’s face. “Chronologically I’m thirty two, but I had just turned twenty six at the time of my coma.”

“Wow, so you are like only ten years older then me, mentally that is.” Stiles smirked, glancing at his clock. “I got like three hours before my chat. Want to watch a movie?”

“I am rather behind on my Marvel movies. Do you have any?”

Stiles mouth dropped open for a moment. “Do I have any? You name a Marvel movie and I have it. What was the last one you watched?”

“I was looking forward to taking Cora to see Blade: Trinity. But I never got the chance.”

Seeing the loss in Peter’s eye Stiles felt an uncontrollable urge to remove the hurt. Jumping to his feet he grabbed his hand and went down to the living room. He need to pull him out of the painful thoughts. “I have all the Blade movies. Though I don’t like the last one Blade: House of Chthon. The story wasn’t very good and no Wesley Snipes.” He kept up a study commentary until the opening credits were queued up.

They sat side by side on the couch. Stiles leaned on the arm while Peter sat in the middle their legs just barely touching. Tucking his legs up, his calf was now flush against Peters thigh.

Half way through the movie Peter sighed. Reaching forward he picked up the remote and hit pause. “What do you want to ask me?”

“What makes you think I want to ask you anything?”

“One you are a naturally inquisitive person. And two you reek of curiosity.”

“Curiosity has a smell?” Stiles’s eyes went wide.

“All emotions have a scent. As do all bodily functions.” Peter smirked eyes roaming over Stiles’s body. “Right now you smell of curiosity and arousal. I’d say you jerked off in the shower this morning.”

Stiles stared at Peter gob-smacked. What Peter had just said was such an invasion of privacy. “Keep your nose to your self, Creeperwolf.” After another minute Stiles huffed. “Yesterday I noticed that Erica, Isaac and Boyd kept leaning on me and you don’t seem to mind this.” He motioned to their legs pressed against each other. “Is that a werewolf thing?”

“Werewolves are very tactile, I doubt the pups realized what they were doing. But it is in our nature to keep contact with a wounded pack member. It helps them to heal.”

“Is that why you sent them home with me?”

“That and I didn’t think you would rest without someone holding you down.” A half smile played on Peter’s lips. Reaching for the remote once more he pushed play.

Just before the end of the movie Stiles heard the front door open. “Stiles, I’m home.”

“In here.”

~~~
Noah walked into the living room to find his son sitting on the couch with Peter Hale. His hand twitched as he thought about going for his gun. “Hale.”
“Sheriff.”
“What are you doing here?”
“I came to see how Stiles was doing.”
“We were watching Blade Trinity. Peter has a lot to catch up on.” Stiles smiled brightly.
Noah just blinked at his son, there was no way in this world that Stiles couldn’t see what Peter was up to. “Well now that you’ve seen that he is fine I guess you will be going.” It wasn’t a question.
Ignoring what Noah had said Peter faces Stiles. “Don’t you have a chat to get to?”
“That’s not till four.”
“Four o’clock Mountain, three o’clock Pacific.”
Stiles glanced at the clock to see that it was ten till three. He flailed a bit before taking a sharp intake of breath. He let it out slowly then got up and headed for the stairs. About half way up he stopped. “Try not to kill each other.” Then he was gone.
Noah stared daggers at the werewolf on his couch. “Don’t think I don’t know what you are up to Peter.” At the wolf’s raised eyebrow he gritted his teeth. “I’ve seen your kind and I don’t mean you being a werewolf. I mean the way you look at my sixteen year old son.”
“Ah.” Peter slowly rose to his feet. “I think we need to talk. Outside.” He then turned and walked towards the back door.
Once they were outside he saw Peter staring into the woods their yard backed up to. He seemed lost in thought. “Did you know wolves mate for life.” Noah’s eyes went wide with shock, at the implication.
“Breath Sheriff, your son is still untouched.” Peter turned to face Noah. “There is a saying among us. You meet thousands of people who don’t connect with you. And then you meet that one special person and your life is changed. They will be the one you could never harm and the one you will kill for.”
Noah didn’t know how he felt about what Peter had just said. “Are you trying to tell me you think Stiles is your soulmate?”
“He calls to my wolf, and I find him intriguing.” Peter’s eyes drift back to the woods.
Noah never took his eyes off the man. “I remember you telling Stiles that you would never hurt him. The way that Derek looked was, pure shock.”
Peter smirked. “That’s because I always told him that there was no such thing as a soulmate. That he should not even look.”
“If your people believe in them why would tell him that?”
“Because finding your soulmate is a one in a thousand chance.” Peter glanced over to Noah. “Now I’m not saying that we only ever have sex with one person. But when we take a mate that’s it we will never be with anyone else for as long as they are alive. Be they our True Mate or just a person we chose as out mate.”
Walking over to the steps Noah sat down. He was wrestling with a dilemma, he knew his son. Sighing he made his decision. “Stiles believes in soulmates. He use to say that his mother and I were meant to be.”
“That doesn’t surprise me. Not with him pining for the same girl for more then six years.” Peter sat next to Noah. “But I don’t want to tell him about the pull I have towards him.”
“Why not?” Noah had heard how manipulative Peter was.
“I want him to want to be with me for me. Not some half baked notion of being soulmates.”
Noah just gave the man next to him a skeptical look.
“I was the child of my fathers old age. He already had Talia who was twenty one years my senior and Rieka my other sister who was nineteen years older then me. I was unexpected and unwanted.” Peter was looking into the trees, not seeing them. “I spent my life trying to prove myself to my pack. My sisters had the same view of me as my dad. Talia said I should not learn magic. Rieka told me that there was no need for me to major in accounting. But by the time I was twenty two I was the left hand to my Alpha and the packs financial advisor and though many would say I had earned my place. My pack still looked at me like an Omega. I guess that’s why Laura and Derek never really saw me as an uncle. Being that I was six when Laura was born and eight when Derek was. We were raised more like siblings. I guess what I’m trying to say is that I've always fought for what I had. I go after what I want and I get it no matter what anybody says.” Peter smirked. "There's no fun in getting something if I don't have to work for it."
“Can you just wait till he is eighteen?” Noah had a pleading look in his eyes.
This time is was Peter giving Noah the skeptical look. “No, I am not a patient person. I thought you would want to shoot me when I told you that you were right about my intentions.”
“I know my son, when he brings someone into his circle he will do every thing in his power to see them health and safe. He was forced to grow up to fast and that was my fault. But know this if you ever hurt him I will shoot you in the face and then cut you in half.” Noah was not normally one for going outside the law but this was Stiles and for him he would do anything.
“I can’t promise that Stiles will never be hurt. Not even True Mates are happy all the time. What I can promise is nothing will happen without Stiles’s consent.”
Noah thought for a few minutes. “He turns seventeen in June can you at least wait till then?”
Peter smirked. “It will probably take me that long to get him to trust me. He is rather stubborn.”
Barking a laugh Noah shook his head. “That is putting it mildly.” He glanced over to the wolf. “I’m not going to tell Stiles that I condone this until he comes to me.”
“Fair enough.”
~~~

Stiles went to his room hopping that he would not hear a gun shot anytime soon. He knew Peter was using him for something he just didn’t know for what. He woke up his computer and clicked on the tab for the forum. What he found on his screen made his mouth fall open.

The human is crucial to the Faoladh pack. They keep the pack grounded and remind them that they are the descendants of Ossory Ireland. These werewolves are known to be the guardian protectors of children, wounded men and the lost throughout Ireland.

The human in a Lykánthropos pack is a second class pack mate. With the near insatiable urge to devour hearts upon the three nights of the full moon. Extra precautions must be put in place to protect any humans that may be in their pack.

BEWARE THE LONE WOLF.

He stared at the screen for a full five minutes, reading and rereading what was on it. The sound of a ding let him know the chat window was live.

Kat: Cas?

Cas: Yeah that’s me.

Kat: Did what I send you help?

Cas: Maybe?

Kat: Maybe?

Cas: I didn’t know there was two kinds of werewolves.

Kat: There are actually three. But the third kind are only born and rarely leave Japan.

Cas: How do you know all this stuff?

Kat: I have been in the supernatural world since I was 12. I have a small library of helpful books.

Cas: Do you have a Bestiary?

Kat: Bestiary?

Cas: A book of all the supernatural things you know of?

Kat: Not exactly. Do you?

Cas: Yes.

Kat: Then why are you asking me about werewolves?

Cas: Because it is 32 pages of Archaic Latin.

Kat: Well that sounds useless, and there are more then 200 different supernatural creatures not counting Pagan Gods and Goddesses.

Cas: Fuck Me!!!!!!!!!

Kat: Do you know what kind of werewolf your friend is?

Cas: Well they don’t eat hearts.

Kat: Does their Alpha have red eyes?

Cas: Yes.

Kat: Then they are Faoladh. The Lykánthropos don’t have red eyes and you can be turned by a bite from anyone of them not just the Alpha.

Cas: Are you kidding me?

Kat: No. Are you thinking of joining the Pack?

Cas: I kinda think I joined yesterday.

Kat: Kinda think? How do you not know?

Cas: We all had a vote as to who was in the pack and I’m in.

Kat: How long has this pack been a pack.

Cas: Since yesterday.

Kat: Did an Alpha come through your town, bite a bunch of people and now you are all banding together?

Cas: Kinda.

Kat: Ok, send me your email address and I will send you a scan of a book about Faoladh. It was written in 1889 by a man named Cunignos Whelan. It will help you teach them what they need to know.

Cas: Awesome.

Kat: They are also going to need a healer and magic user.

Cas: Why.

Kat: There will be things the werewolves wont be able to use to protect themselves. Things only a human can use.

Cas: Like Mountain ash

Kat: You’ve used Mountain ash?

Cas: It’s a long story that I’m not going to go into but. Yes.

Kat: How much magical training have you had?

Cas: None

Kat: You need a magical spark to get it to work.

Cas: I was told to use the spark I had within. And I just believed that I could close a 50 foot gap with a hand full of Mountain ash. And I did.

Kat: Who told you, you had a spark within?

Cas: A vet that likes to talk in circles.

Kat: Did he offer to teach you magic?

Cas: No I don’t think he likes me

Kat: I want you to try something for me. I want you to take a hand full of Mountain ash imagine it in a circle around yourself then through it in the air.

Cas: Why

Kat: Because if you can make a circle of Mountain ash without any training you are a Spark.

Cas: What’s a Spark?

Kat: I will tell you if you can do it.

Cas: You sound like Sourwolf

Kat: There is a big difference between a Spark and a normal human magic user. If I tell you something and you go out and try it you might blow yourself up.

Cas: Ok

Kat: I need to get off here. The next time I can do a live chat will be Tue after 4 is that ok?

Cas: Can we chat around 8?

Kat: Sure. And if you have any questions just post them in the chat and I will try to answer them.

Stiles had hedged around the truth as best he could. This Kat person seemed to be willing to answer his questions. She had conformed what Peter had said about the humans in their pack. But now he had like a thousand things he wanted to ask both her and Peter. But that would have to wait because he needed to go make dinner.
