Let it happen, darling I won't care

Summary:

In which Sylvie tells the truth and Loki and Mobius are in denial.

(Set after episode 4 but with next to no plot detail.)

Notes:

I swear to god, who needs drugs when you can get this addicted to a fandom and ship? Sleep? Work focus? Time for anything else? Move over, Lokius is my life now (For the next few weeks anyway!)

Anywhooooo, this idea came to me from a dream, thank you brain. Honestly though I've been thinking about little else as stated above, so not surprised I dream about this ship now. Hope you like it, it was good fun to write :) (Kudos and comments make me incandescently happy!)

Oh and in my head this is set after episode 4, but trivial things like plot detail, setting and timeline? Who needs 'em!

*Title comes from If You Love Me (Really Love Me) by Brenda Lee, which I cannot stop listening to after episode 4!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

Loki took a deep breath, grabbed Sylvie's arms just like before and finally made his confession, “Sylvie, I think I’m in love with you.”

Sylvie looked at him blankly for a brief second, her eyes betraying no emotion, before she simply responded, “No.”

“What do you mean no?” Loki asked indignantly.

“No.” She said again.

“Look if you-

“Noooooooo” she interrupted loudly, waving her hands dismissively in his face now.

“-don’t feel the same way-” Loki persisted, raising his voice even more loudly than hers, “-just say so!”

Sylvie pinched the bridge of her nose and sighed impatiently, “There’s no same way to feel! I’m not the one you’re in love with, Moron!”

“What?” Loki asked, baffled.

“I’m not the one you’re in love with.” She repeated loudly and slowly, enunciating each word.

Loki rolled his eyes and folded his arms sulkily.

“Oh I’m sorry, who is it that I am in love with then?”

Sylvie folded her arms to match Loki’s and said, “Mobius”, raising a hand to gesture to the man in question, who for his part had been stood behind the pair watching the scene unfold anxiously and with increasing confusion.

“What?” Loki and Mobius shouted at the same time.

Sylvie repeated herself yet again, shrugging her shoulders as though it were the most obvious thing in the world, “Mobius. He’s the one you’re in love with. And he definitely feels the same way.”

There was a moment of shocked silence before Loki and Mobius once again spoke in unison, profusely expressing their protests and talking over one another all the while.

“Well that’s just absurd.” Loki kept saying, over Mobius’ repeated disbelieving, “Wow.”

Sylvie watched them for a few seconds before losing her patience completely. Rolling her eyes at them, she walked away, muttering “Idiots” under her breath as she went.

Loki and Mobius continued to refute Sylvie’s statement long after she had gone until they finally seemed to realise that they were alone.

They each stood with their hands on their hips in a mirror image of each other, unsure where to look except to determinedly avoid each other’s gaze.

Loki ran his hands through his hair nervously whilst Mobius fiddled with his tie, awkwardly clearing his throat. They looked up at exactly the same time, resorting back to their protests with the addition of forced humour.

“Could she be any more wrong?” Loki scoffed.

“Couldn’t be further from the mark.” Mobius agreed with an awkward chuckle.

“I mean the two of us?” Loki gestured between them, as if to highlight the ridiculousness of the accusation.

“Yeah right!” Mobius sneered.

“I mean it’s laughable really-” Loki continued, “-a mere mortal such as yourself-"

“-with a stuck up Prince like you? Right.” Mobius finished, smirking slightly.

Loki rolled his eyes but smirked back. “Imagine.”

“I couldn’t possibly.” Mobius told him, his eyes crinkling slightly but his smile no longer meeting them.

Loki paused awkwardly, worried he had caused offence.

“I mean don’t get me wrong, I like you.” he explained. “As a partner. Work wise.” He added hastily.

“Right.” Mobius agreed, shrugging. “And as a friend.” A small smile tugged at his lips once more.

Loki couldn’t suppress his own smile at that and bowed his head to hide it. “Yes-” he agreed, nodding before looking shyly back up at Mobius, “-there’s some mutual respect.”

Mobius looked at him, waiting.

“Alright and some...fondness.” Loki added stubbornly.

Fondness, wow.” Mobius teased delightedly.

“Oh shut up, you said we were friends.” Loki said crossly, though he didn’t feel it.

Mobius nodded, smiling still and looking into Loki’s eyes as he said, “There’s some trust too.”

“Occasionally.” Loki quipped hoping his deflection would distract from the small blush he could feel creeping into his cheeks.

“Right.” Mobius said, narrowing his eyes as if to assess Loki as he had done so many times before.

Loki looked back at him for a few moments, sure his heartbeat was getting louder. “But romance?” He blurted out suddenly. “Utter nonsense.” He tried to laugh but it sounded strained, even to his own ears.

“Yeah.” Mobius agreed, no longer laughing or smiling. “I mean look how comfortable we are, as friends, stood this close together.” His eyes dropped down to the space between them, which had become considerably smaller since their conversation had started.

Loki’s own smile faltered as he glanced down at the space himself. He swallowed thickly, his throat suddenly dry.

His eyes met Mobius’ once more, searching them intently.

“Well precisely." Loki said softly, trying to keep his voice even. "We’re stood very closely and I don’t feel a thing.”

“Me neither.” Mobius replied, edging closer still.

“Nothing.” Loki shrugged, leaning in closer himself.

“Not a thing. Even when you lean right in, my heart rate -  totally normal.” Mobius threw his hands up to emphasize the point.

“Well exactly." Loki said. "I could grab your tie -”

"-Wouldn't be the first time." Mobius pointed out, his mouth twitching slightly.

Loki raised his eyebrows, grabbing the tie in question much more cautiously this time,  "No, well, just like last time, it's just a friendly gesture, I’m sure it wouldn’t bother you.”

“Not even a little bit." Mobius said, almost whispering now as he looked down at Loki's hands on his tie. "Completely friendly." He stammered, moving his hands towards Loki chest. "And I bet I could place my hands on your chest, and you wouldn’t feel a thing.”

“Nothing.” Loki inhaled sharply at Mobius' touch, tightening his grip on the tie and inching that much closer.

“Zilch.” Mobius agreed, his fingers digging into Loki’s chest now as their noses grazed.

Vætki.” Loki breathed, feeling Mobius’ breath ghost across his face and his moustache tickle him as they finally closed what was left of the gap between them.

Their kiss was frenzied and passionate, with each desperate to somehow get closer to the other. Their hands roamed everywhere, weaving through each other’s hair and scraping the other's back, pulling frantically at clothing as they went. It went on for quite some time and escalated very quickly. But of course, neither one of them felt a thing.

“Boy did we prove her wrong.” Mobius declared as they lay together later, Loki pressed against him with his head on his chest as Mobius ran his fingers through the God's long curls. “Definitely no romantic feelings here.”

“Absolutely none." Loki concurred. After a small pause he added, “But you know, theories should always be tested multiple times, to avoid flukes.”

Mobius tried to hide his beaming face in Loki’s hair, “Right, the data could be skewed or false.”

“Exactly.” Loki said, sitting up eagerly to look at Mobius. “Sylvie's far too stubborn to back down without a fight. If we’re really going to prove her wrong we should do the thing properly. Get more proof.” He grinned mischievously.

“Yeah-” Mobius murmured in agreement as he tucked a piece of hair affectionately behind Loki’s ear, “-we’re definitely going to need more proof.”

Notes:

'Vætki' roughly translates as ‘nothing’ in Old Norse apparently, probably not accurate but I thought it'd be cute!

Also, I don't know WHERE they 'proved their theory', I'll leave that up to your imaginations...
