Chapter Text
When the Captain fell into the hole he promised himself he wouldn't worry about the other. He was his assistant, he was mildly annoying and he didn't seem to care for anything else aside from the levers! Who would want a person like that on the team?
And yet, despite his first instincts, when he fell all he could do was: "RANBOO, ARE YOU OK?"
Even if he said to himself he wouldn't worry, he couldn't help but do so. He got no reply from his assistant and you can't blame Sparklez for being concerned, maybe just maybe, he wanted to keep an assistant (it totally wasn't due to the naive nature of the clearly younger, nor was it because he was worried that he had gotten hurt).
As soon as dread was about to set into the man's bones, there was a faint "I'm okay!" coming from above the Captain's head which made his shoulders sag with relief.
"Do you think you can come down here? - Uh, do so after you check where you are."
"Mhmm" He got a humm of confirmation, and not long after, Ranboo was down in the hole, not too far from the Captain, waving like an 'endearing child' (he then thought to himself that Ranboo wasn't a child and he was just his assistant).
"You good? Found anything?" He asked the younger, who just shrugged and walked ahead.
"Nah, nothing. Ooo! Water-" Ranboo was quick to jump into it, and as quick as he put one foot in, he made a face and quickly realised his mistake.
"RANBOO-" Sparklez yelled after the kid and even ran after him, quick to try and hoist the boy up so his limbs wouldn't be in contact with the water anymore.
"I got you, buddy. Stay calm!"
"I am calm! It just gave me slowness and made my leg feel tingly, it's like asleep-" The boy wondered aloud and even touched the still wet leg: which bad idea once more, "Uh, Captain? My hand's asleep now too-"
With a sigh Sparklez hoisted the kid out fully and started checking him for injuries.
"You're such an idiot, you gotta think things through, Ranboo. I get being young and stuff, but it's really inconvenient when you try to have an assistant that doesn't die!" He lectured softly, checking now the boy's head and slowly mussing the younger one's hair.
"... Mhm, sureeee.. " Ranboo spoke softly, a mischievous grin on his face.
"What's so funny?"
"You're like, uhh... Being a mother right now. And I don't even know how one should act like- cuz y’know? Memory problems? Hahaha- Uh, can you like, stop though? Please?”
The captain sighed but obliged, at the end of the day Ranboo was right, he should stop mother henning.
“Right, sorry. Let’s continue going! Can you see…”
And as the man spoke, the younger couldn’t help but feel a bit of warmth at being cared for and looked after. Hell, he doesn’t remember his mother! He sure wants a stable adult figure for sure…
But that
won’t
be Sparklez, the Captain is
not
his dad.
