Work Text:
It was Wilbur, Techno, and Philza up against everyone.
All of them have been on the battlefield for hours, the battlefield being the only remains left of Lmanburg, the only thing stopping them from plummeting to the jagged rocks below is the thing layer of glass that was put there.
He can hear the sound of the battle raging around him.
But now, It’s only background noise.
This felt like one of those cheesy action movies… Where all you can hear is ringing as everything fades in and out around you… But now he at least had to give them credit.
He tried to stop the stupid thoughts he got when he was here, he’d come to the remains of the place he made a lot…
But it hit differently when you were fighting at a place you thought was dead.
Ranboo had actually helped him so much, it hurt the boy to do it, but the teen had spilled everything that he remembered, and said what he had known.
Tommy’s family was back one last time.
Just like the other times, they weren’t going to be on his side.
This was the day that Tommy began to see Ranboo as part of his new, broken family.
As the boys looked up, seeing hundreds of more piles of TNT and every enchanted weapon you could think of, pointing right at them…
They both had a feeling that this day would end in tragedy, no matter who was victorious.
Smoke and Gunpowder filled his vision, making the boy cough roughly as he tried to see something. Anything , other than the thick gray dust.
He stood close behind Puffy and Sam, people who he thought had hated him after past events that were his mistake.
A gentle hand on his shoulder made him forget about all of those bad thoughts.
As his friends climbed higher in their shiny netherite armor, they managed to go unnoticed as they began destroying the Redstone that was causing everything to go haywire, knowing that once it would be broken, the TNT wouldn’t dropdown.
That would mean it would explode where it was.
Infront of most of his… Real family.
He was already prepared to lose, he was not going to let three people he cared about die. Purely because of him.
The climbing up the pillars was the hard part, having to drop the hand placed TNT was difficult, almost knocking him off the hundred blocks high pillar a couple of times.
Why did they choose to be in the highest building? God, knows. But he could see that it was working out for them.
Everyone fought hard . Wilbur was the first to notice that his… That Tommy had been climbing, he was trying the hardest to knock him off.
Techno and Philza were currently filling up the TNT cannon, not yet noticing the fatal flaw in the Redstone.
The flaw that would end their lives.
He was not going to lose another brother, or a father figure today.
Yells and shrieks were heard from down below, a large part of the glass had shattered. Ending with someone falling through, he couldn’t tell who it was from how high he was.
But God a small part of him hoped it was someone who hurt him. Preferably Dream…
Tommy was at the top of the tower now, sneaking in through one of the glassless windows, meant for shooting people out of.
The kid yelped as his own…
He yelped as Phil dropped TNT down the middle, trying to get rid of him.
He closed his eyes, preparing for the worst as it exploded. The pain hurt like a bitch. But knew that this was only one explosive, how bad would it hurt his family when they blew up…?
He wouldn’t let that happen.
Everything felt blurry, the momentum he was getting from this was really kicking in right now.
All he knew was that he was finally on top of the building, and there they were. Standing in front of him, without a scratch.
So many people were getting hurt, while they looked unharmed…
The button about to be pressed had reminded him why he risked death to come up.
“Don’t press that button.” The youngest of the destroyed family warned, pointing his Dream’s old sword at them.
Wilbur snapped. “Tommy! Get out of here.”
As Techno pressed the button, the last thing he could remember was running towards them and shoving them out of the way, splashing the only water bucket on top of them.
The last thing he saw was the way he looked his family in the eyes as the contraption exploded, the way they fell far off of the building, landing into the water below.
The light blinded everyone who had looked up, watching this go down.
It felt as if a weight had been lifted off of every member's shoulders.
A moment of silence and everyone started cheering. The TNT had stopped , nobody was battling anymore.
They did it!
They finally did it…
They had witnessed multiple blurs fall from the tower, right before it exploded. Though, they had yet to get back up.
Tubbo and Ranboo cheered, looking around the place. It was covered in damage, but they had already cleaned it up once. It was fine, everything would take some getting used too but-
A thought came to the brown-haired boy's mind.
He looked around as realization slowly began to seep in.
Where the Fuck was Tommy?
Noticing something laying on the other side of the broken tower in the distance, Tubbo screamed.
There was Tommy, laying burned and bloody against what was left of the battle building.
His head was hung low.
As the explosion had occurred, Techno, Wilbur, and Phil had gotten up, maybe the explosion had killed more than they thought?
What… Happened with the explosion anyway? Why were they on the ground…?
It took them far too long to realize that their youngest had done this, to save them.
Tubbo and Ranboo were attempting to get to their best friend, desperately attempting to find building materials, the glass had shattered all around where the force of the explosion came from, destroying a lot of the thin ground below them.
His ‘Family’ got to him first.
“Tom’s , Tommy. Hey buddy.” Wilbur spoke, for the first time… It felt like they were a family again, no venom in… Wilbur's voice, sounded as if they were brothers again…
Tommy was barely coherent enough to listen as he let out a small pained whimper. Wilbur just wanted to ease the kid's pain. He searched his inventory, he had brought no healing items to the battle with him. Techno and Philza had said this plan had been foolproof.
So why was his little brother bleeding out in front of him?!
Techno and Philza soon joined where Wilbur was sitting, staring at the husk of their youngest.
“ Fight’s over now?” The kid managed to choke out , blood from his mouth spitting everywhere.
This war had gone on long enough.
Despite the horrifying situation, Phil cupped his son's cheek. “Yeah Mate, the fight’s over now.” He responded softly. His son smiled at him, despite the burning he felt everywhere.
Tommy was still able to hear the sound of his family, but they knew that their time was running short.
Phil and Techno glanced at each other, knowing about their lack of healing preparation. All Techno had was a Notch apple.
Tubbo and Ranboo came up behind them, gasping with pure fear . Tubbo splashing the boy with a healing potion without thinking.
It didn’t seem to work, the injuries were too bad for even a potion of Healing Two to work…
The agony the boy must be feeling would be indescribable.
Techno’s mind was racing, he was the only family member who hadn’t said anything to the kid.
He tried to shake all the thoughts away that were racing through his mind, like the fact that the kid was only 17 years old.
“Listen to me T-Theseus,” TechnoBlade whispered, Guiding his hand on top of the boy burned and bruised one.
“H-Hey Techno.” The boy called out, voice barely above a whisper now.
He had so many things that he wanted to say to the kid, his brother. So many good things, thousands of things. But… Seeing as these were his last moments… He had to use this time wisely.
He didn’t care bout the tears streaming down his face.
He didn’t give a shit about the people who began to surround the boy.
He felt the kids hand grasp tightly onto his own. Knowing that Tommy was using all of his strength just to reassure him.
“I… I love you Tommy.” He finally said. Wilbur and Philza spoke up.
“Love you Tom’s…”
“Love you, Mate.”
Wilbur cupped his hand to the kid's face. “I’ll always love you… Always.”
The people behind him said similar words. Tubbo and Ranboo stepping forward to kneel and say goodbye to their best friend.
The kid could only mumble out words that none of them understood, but they had a pretty good guess of what they were.
“It’s alright… You can rest now.”
Tommy blinked tiredly, managing to give his family one last smile before he went still.
Their family's grasp on him never faltered, not letting go when Totems were thrown onto the child in a last attempt to save him.
The broken family let out shaky sobs as they wished that all of this were just a dream. That none of this happened, that they would all be able to go home to Technoblades place.
They wished it was all a nightmare.
But denial could only take you so far.
They looked down at the body of their youngest one last time, expecting to see him smile right back up at them. Though, none of that would ever come again. All that were seen were glossy gray eyes starting right at them. No chest moving, no sounds coming from him. And no grasp from his hand to show that he was alive.
Philza had lost another child again.
And Techno and Wilbur had lost a brother.
They allowed grief to overcome their bodies.
…
The Totems Shattered.
