“Thank you, little mouse.” Luz whispered to the rodent that was cupped in her hands, “I hope you and I can become good friends.” She booped their noses affectionately and looked at it with a small smile.
The cool and chilly wind passed through Luz’s dark hair. Amity felt her heart skip a beat as she saw the way the purple sunset reflected in Luz’s dark brown eyes.
Turning to look at her almost destroyed library card, she stared at the old Amity Blight. Green hair, not even a hint of happiness even when it came to something she loved doing.
She slid her thumb against it, a sense of déjà vu washing over her. She had felt this before. On Grom where she didn’t ask Luz to be her pair out of fear of being rejected by the first person she ever liked.
She wouldn’t let this happen again.
“Don’t worry.” She smiled at Luz and took a step forward, “You always have a way of sneaking into people’s hearts.” Without thinking, Amity closed her eyes, aiming to kiss Luz’s cheek.
“Wh-” Luz tried to say and turned to look at the witch, but this action made Amity miss her cheek, and instead, Amity kissed Luz on her lips.
Luz gasped when her brain caught up to what was happening. But she didn’t back away.
Amity, on the other hand, realized her mistake quickly. Their first kiss ended just as quickly as it had started and Amity could feel her brain cells frying.
Luz was still staring at her, her cheeks tinged with red and her eyes widened.
“Uh-” Luz tried saying something
“WOOO! GO SIS!” They both heard Edric shouting from the first floor of the manor but they were too surprised by the kiss to even acknowledge it.
Amity could feel her entire face was just as hot as the boiling seas. Maybe even more.
Luz continued to stare at her, her lips still agape.
“I-I-I am s-so sorry Luz!” Amity stammered, holding tightly her library card and looking everywhere but the girl in front of her, “I-I didn’t mean to kiss you! I mean, I did! Just not on the… the…” the lilac-haired witch stammered as she struggled to even acknowledge that she had kissed Luz on the lips.
“Uh…”
Amity turned her back away from her and slightly pinched her own arm, praying to the Titan this was just a dream. This seemed to be something that belonged to her daydreams. Of being brave enough to ask Luz if she liked girls, ask Luz if she felt something for her, kiss her under the Grom tree. But no, it was real.
She had accidentally kissed Luz.
Clutching her library card to her chest, Amity turned on her heel to face Luz, who was still stuck on the same expression.
“W-Well, okay! I-It was good to see you! But I gotta hide- I mean go! Farewell forever and ever!” she quickly climbed up the steps to inside the manor, closing the door behind her.
She heard a small thud outside, but her mind was racing too fast. She hid her face behind her library card and fell to the floor, her back against the wooden door.
“Why did I do that? Why did I do that? Why did I do that? Why did I do that?” she kept repeating under her breath, her heart not missing a single beat as it pumped even more blood to her face.
Moments passed and finally, Amity reached her fingertips to her lips, feeling the sensations of Luz’s lips on her own. Warm just like the way Luz’s smile would make Amity feel. Soft, just like the way Luz would make Amity be whenever she was around. Sweet, just like Luz herself.
Amity groaned and hid her face between her knees.
Why did I do that? Why did I do that? She repeated mentally several hundred times in the span of minutes.
But despite the embarrassment she felt, Amity couldn’t help but long for another kiss.
What she wasn’t aware of was that just outside, Luz was thinking just the same.
