Chapter Text

Somehow Buck found himself pregnant in the middle of summer again. He was now just a couple days shy of his due date, August 31st. Baby girl Diaz would be making her way into the world soon. That’s right. They were having a girl this time.

They’d opted to find out the baby’s gender earlier this time than waiting for the birth. They decided to do the gender reveal shabang with Athena and Maddie happily arranging the entire thing.

Eddie cried tears of pure joy and pulled Buck into a fierce kiss when he popped the balloon and pink confetti floated out. Chris was excited to finally get the baby sister he’d been asking for since Carson was born. He was way too thrilled about the prospect of chasing any future boyfriends or girlfriends away.

Carson however wasn’t so thrilled. Carson had reacted in the opposite way Chris had when they’d told him that they was getting a baby sibling. Carson had cried and screamed and thrown a tantrum that gave Buck the worst migraine he’d had ever.

Carson refused to talk to Buck for weeks after they told him and Buck had to admit that it stung. Eddie had tried to sit him down and explain that the baby was a good thing and that they wouldn’t love him any less but Carson was hung up on the fact that he wouldn’t be the baby anymore.

They were both holding out hope that things would change regarding his feelings when his sibling got here.

The pack was over the moon. Maddie was happy that Jee and her second daughter, Stella would have a cousin to play dress up with. Athena was glad to have a granddaughter to dress up and Helena? Helena screamed so loud when they told her that she woke up the entire neighborhood.

She and Ramon had booked the first flight out of Texas to California and showed up at their doorstep. Buck had only been 20 weeks pregnant at the time but she was already muttering about quinceañeras and names.

Carson eased into things with his grandfather around to give him all the attention he wanted. He followed Ramon around like a baby duck behind the mother duck. It was a full house but Buck was grateful for the help.

This pregnancy had been challenging from the start. Much like his first, he’d had morning sickness that extended into the rest of the day for his entire pregnancy. His back ached, feeling as though it was being crushed by a truck and his hormones were even more out of wack than his first pregnancy.

Unfortunately for Eddie, Buck didn’t get a break with cravings as he did with Carson. Buck’s pregnancy cravings were just down right disgusting.

Chocolate ice cream with anchovies. Cheese balls covered in maple syrup. Let’s not forget the parmesan covered cherry popsicle. Even worse, Buck tended to crave these things in the middle of the night. Eddie had to make so many midnight store runs that he knew the owner at the corner store had three grandkids and one on the way.

Buck grimaced and rubbed his bump as he sat on the patio watching Carson splash in the pool with Alex and Chase. The two of them had bonded the winter after Carson was born in a beautiful ceremony. They’d been trying for their own little one recently and had taken to babysitting Carson as practice for their own pup whenever they could.

“You okay babe?” Eddie asked concerned.

“Yeah just some Braxton Hick’s,” Buck answered.

You’d think that after having one baby your body wouldn’t need to prepare itself for labour again. Buck only hoped that this labour went by quicker since this was his second. He was having an unmediated birth again. He was now 5 years clean and he intended to keep it that way.

Eddie placed his hand on Buck’s bump trying to soothe his mate’s pain. It didn’t get easier seeing Buck hurt. Not even the fact that he was bringing another child of theirs into the world made Eddie feel better about the pain Buck was feeling.

“Just a couple more days and she’ll be here,” Eddie said smiling at Buck.

“Just a couple more days,” Buck affirmed.

After Alex and Chase had left and they’d had dinner, Buck supervised Chris with the dishes and Eddie put Carson to bed.

The teenager had been busy with school and his advanced classes but tried to help out as much as he could at home knowing that the pregnancy was taking a serious toll on Buck. Chris was recounting the latest school drama to Buck as they worked in tandem to clean the dishes.

“Anyway, I know things will be super busy with the baby soon but next month my english teacher wants to do this thing where it’s kinda like open mic night and we get to read some of the stuff we’ve written in class to the parents. I was hoping that maybe you and dad could come if you were feeling up to it?” Chris asked.

“I wouldn’t miss it for the world buddy,” Buck said. Chris didn’t need him to help with his homework anymore so Buck was always happy to be involved when Chris asked him to help out with something for school or to attend a school event. It always made him so proud to see how well Chris was doing.

Chris went off to his room after the dishes were done and Buck went to the laundry room to get started on the piles of dirty clothes. Eddie had told him to take it easy but he knew Eddie was overworked. He had been pulling shifts and doing Buck’s share of the chores at home since Buck had been too sick most days to get anything done.

Buck had just transferred a load into the dryer when he felt another false contraction. He breathed through it bracing himself on the washing machine which is how Eddie found him.

“I thought I told you to relax?” He asked crossing his arms in the doorway.

“I couldn’t just leave it to pile up even more. I just wanted to help,” Buck argued.

“I know babe but you’re nine months pregnant. You should be in bed resting. So come on, leave the clothes for me to handle tomorrow and let’s go get some sleep,” Eddie said trying to usher him out of the laundry room.

“But you can’t just leave the wet clothes there!” Buck protested.

“I’ll handle them. Don’t worry.” Eddie said opening the door to their bedroom and gently guiding Buck to the bed.

Buck slipped out of house slippers at Eddie’s urging and was about to get into the bed when he felt it.

“Oh oh,” Buck said with widened eyes.

“What? What is it?” Eddie asked quickly.

“I think my water just broke.”
