Work Text:

Carina was worried about Andrea. And it wasn’t just because of how he was acting at the moment, obsessing over his patient, she had been worried for a while. Seeing her baby brother manifest some of the same attitudes their father had was scary, even more when no one around her seemed to notice or care.

“Can I have her chart?” The OB asked the nurse in front of her, leaning a bit over the desk. Even if she was worried, she still had to work.

“Yeah.” The redheaded nurse replied.

However, before the nurse could give Carina what she asked, she spotted Meredith walking behind her with the corner or her eye, making her turn.

She was about to follow her when someone else called her name to her left.

“Carina, hey.”

The Italian’s eyes landed on the gorgeous blonde from the bar.

“Maya, what…?”

She wasn’t expecting to see her so soon. Sure, they had exchanged phone numbers after they chatted for hours at Joe’s but seeing her in the hospital had caught her off guard.

The blonde gave her a shy smile and looked to the side for a second before her blue eyes found Carina’s brown ones again. “It’s just, we stayed really late at the bar last night and I thought you could use some coffee.” She motioned at the disposable coffee cups in her hands.

The OB hadn’t noticed them. Her lips began to curve in a soft smile but then she remembered she needed to talk to Dr. Grey.

“I’m sorry, Maya, I’m really busy right now.” Carina said, setting the tablet on the desk.

The firefighter’s smile faltered for a second but she composed her face quickly. “Oh, don’t worry, I shouldn’t have dropped by unannounced. But you should take the coffee still, specially if you’re working hard.” She offered the hot beverage, moving her hand slightly closer to the OB.

Carina took it and gave Maya an apologetic smile. “I’m really sorry, but I’ll make it up to you, sì?” She didn’t wait for an answer. She turned around, coffee in hand, as she needed to catch up with Meredith who was walking away. “Oh, D-Dr.Grey?”

The blonde stood there, leaning on the desk as she saw the brunette talking to the other doctor. She sighed, tapping the desk with her hand before turning around to get out of the hospital.

Maya was definitely bummed she didn’t get to talk much with the Italian but just seeing her was making her feel things she never thought possible. And she was looking forward to seeing her again.
