Work Text:
Nights like these were George's favorite.
It was sort of like a high, he supposed. His brain was pleasantly fuzzy and the world was soft around the edges, squashing the anxieties that tended to sit in the back of his mind as he went about his day. He could snuggle up in bed in his comfy kitty-print pajamas and watch whimsical television shows with plenty of bright yellows and blues that he could see properly.
It was even better now that he wasn't alone anymore. Instead of having to hug his pillow and pretend someone wanted to take care of him, there were two men right down the hall who were more than eager to hold and snuggle and rock him until he fell asleep. And even though it was hours past midnight and he'd assured his boyfriends that he was fine to sleep by himself so they could get work done, the desire for company had him climbing out of bed.
He grabbed his baby Mooshroom plush, affectionately named Moo, and shuffled out of his room dragging the quilt off his bed behind him. He toddled down the hall, pacifier moving between his lips. Sapnap's room was closer and wouldn't require him to navigate the stairs, where there were no night lights plugged into the wall and his plushie might not be enough to protect him from the dark. He was brave enough to get to the other end of the hallway by himself, but maybe not a whole different floor.
Sapnap's door was closed, and George had to fumble a bit with the knob in his clumsier-than-normal hands. He cheered softly when he managed to turn it all the way, pushing it open so he could slip through. The room was dark except for the red glow from the keyboard on the desk, giving George just enough light to tiptoe to the bed. He held Moo tightly against his chest as he climbed onto the mattress, trying not to wake up the snoring man in the middle.
It didn't work; the moment George laid down and snuggled up against Sapnap's back, his caregiver hummed under his breath, turning over to see who had interrupted his slumber. They found themselves nose to nose, Sapnap's eyes full of sleep with George blinking innocently back at him. "Hey, baby," came a tired whisper, eyes flicking briefly down at the pacifier between the boy's lips. "What's the matter?"
George closed his eyes as a hand moved over his hair, a sleepy smile behind the shield of the pacifier. "Want you," he murmured, reaching up to rub his fingers over the other's jaw. The stubble was prickly against his skin, just like it was when Sapnap kissed all over his face to make him giggle.
Sapnap smiled, leaning in to press a kiss to George's nose. "You wanna go cuddle with Dreamie, too?" he hummed, earning an immediate nod. "Alright, c'mere." He sat up with a yawn, collecting George in his arms. Carefully, he stood from the bed with his baby and the Mooshroom plush in tow, the quilt hanging down onto the floor.
George wrapped his arms securely around Sapnap's neck. They entered the hallway again and began to ascend the dark stairs, but he wasn't even a little bit scared this time. "Sappy got me," he sighed happily, nuzzling his cheek against his caregiver's shoulder.
"Yeah, little bug, Sappy's got you," the other said warmly, a smile audible in his voice. He rubbed George's back, soothing him to the point of closing his eyes. It was like magic how sleepy he got when someone was holding him, even if he'd spent all night struggling to fall asleep.
When he opened them again, they weren't walking through the house anymore, and a different pair of arms was holding him. George hugged Moo to his chest, blinking at the hand that slipped his paci between his lips again. "Go back to sleep, baby," Dream's voice whispered above him, followed by a kiss to the crown of his head.
George turned a little, squinting to see in the darkness of Dream's room. "Sappy, too," he mumbled, reaching an arm out until his hand was taken by a much warmer one.
"I'm here, too, babe," Sapnap yawned, scooting close enough so George could see his face. He threw an arm around both his and Dream's waists, effectively squishing George in between them just the way he liked to be.
"We've got you, honey," Dream hummed, kissing George's cheek before adjusting the blanket over all three of them. He made sure his baby was tucked tightly beneath the covers, protecting him from the chill of the AC and any scary things lurking in the dark corners of the room. George closed his eyes again, and this time they stayed shut the rest of the night, allowing him to rest peacefully right where he belonged.
