I.

So.

Luz had a crush on Amity.

She should’ve expected it. Amity had everything her former crushes had. Pretty, smart, kind, and most of all, she was brave.

When she jumped in front of the Abomination robot that her parents had created, taking a stand against their vicious grip that they had for her entire life, that’s when it dawned on her.

And when Amity looked at Luz, her golden eyes filled with determination, her green hair framing her face perfectly, the only question on her lips being if Luz (the nerd human friend who had put herself in this horrible situation) was okay…

Boy, she was in trouble.

It didn’t help Luz when they stood, back to back, ready to fight Mrs. and Mr. Blight and their faces were so close…

Luz had to hide her red face behind her glyphs and turn away from her pretty face.

At the end of the night, she hugged Willow and Gus as they celebrated the defeat and their comeback to Hexside.

Amity stood to the side until Willow pulled her into the group hug. The way Amity giggled, a big smile appearing on her face…

Luz knew Amity was pretty. All of Luz’s friends were pretty in their own way, it didn’t mean that she wanted to kiss all of her friends.

But she did find Amity pretty and she did want to kiss Amity.

She wanted to pull Amity into a kiss and congratulate her for standing up to her parents.

But she didn’t. She had no idea if Amity felt the same towards her.

She probably didn’t (she wanted to invite her crush to Grom, remember?). And that was okay. Luz was used to the feeling. Being friends with one of the prettiest girls was already enough for her.

II.

The forbidden stacks were quiet.

It made sense. Only Malphas was allowed in there (well, they had some mice running around too, but Luz didn’t think they could do any harm).

Luz didn’t usually like quiet places. They made it easy for her brain to not focus.

Right now? She was trying to follow behind Amity as they both walked through the endless rows of books. But the quietness of the place made that task hard.

And her brain wasn’t helping it either. Ever since what happened in the Kid’s section of the Library, every time Luz’s brain didn’t find something to focus on, it focused on the witch in front of her.

Amity looks really pretty with her hair down, she thought, looking at the little puff of hair, I wonder why she doesn’t wear her hair down more often…

“You okay, Luz?” Amity asked as she looked back at the human.

“OH- YEAH! I’m great!” Luz said, a little too enthusiastically, completely forgetting that they were hiding from the Master Librarian himself.

Amity quickly put her hand over Luz’s mouth.

“Shh!” she whisper-screamed, “Malphas has very good ears. So the quieter we are, the better.” She looked deep into Luz’s eyes, gold meeting brown. The same determination that Amity had shown when she saved Luz came back and Luz gulped.

Quickly, Amity’s whole demeanor changed as she realized how close their faces were.

She lowered her hand from Luz’s face, using it to brush a strand of her hair behind her ear.

For the second time, Luz wished she could just kiss Amity.

This is so cliché. A kiss in a forbidden section of a magical library?, Luz thought as Amity faced away from her, gripping the hem of her dress nervously. She looked around, face red as a tomato.

Finally, something caught her attention.

“There!” Amity pointed, the blush on her face almost gone, as she spotted a metal plaque on one of the shelves. The words ‘Deadwardian Era -1600s-’ engraved on it, “That’s where the Diary must be!”

So, ignoring what had just happened, they walked towards it, determined to finally find that diary and leave this place.

III.

Remember when Luz said that Amity was one of the prettiest girls she ever saw?

Scratch that. She is the prettiest girl. Ever.

The way her new lavender hair framed her face, the way she could still see the brown of her natural hair under her new lilac bangs (she did an undercut? Or did she always have one?)…

And then, Amity kissed her. On the cheek. It was quick. For a second she was talking about how Luz always finds a way of sneaking into people’s hearts, the next she’s kissing her cheek, and on the next it’s already gone, leaving only the ghost sensation of Amity’s soft lips on her cheek.

Luz couldn’t believe it.

All that she wanted was to grab Amity by her hand, let her feelings be known and clear. And definitely kiss her back.

But Amity was quicker than her.

As Luz’s brain fried to comprehend what had just happened, she walked away, her staff card in her hands, mumbling something under her breath.

And she was gone. Leaving Luz as the human’s legs gave out and she sat there, staring at where Amity was just seconds ago.

She sat there for what it seemed to be… she wasn’t sure. It could’ve been just a couple of minutes or she stayed there for hours.

But once she got up, one thing was certain.

She would find the courage and a way to ask Amity out on a date.

IV.

When she said she was going to find the courage and a way to ask Amity out, she never imagined it would happen in a crater in front of the Owl House after accidentally rejecting Amity in a tunnel of love created by a house demon (Long story).

But it did happen.

And that was just a few hours ago. A few hours ago since they became girlfriends. It seemed so surreal. Luz would never think this would happen.

But here she was. She was walking her girlfriend home after she politely denied a ride home from Hooty (Luz couldn’t blame her. Hooty had kidnapped her and put her in an owl pellet.)

As they walked, hand in hand, through the path that would lead to the Blight manor, Luz couldn’t get the goofy smile off her face as she stared at Amity, her features highlighted by the light ball that walked ahead of them, illuminating their path during the night.

“What’s so funny?” Amity asked, putting a strand of her hair behind her ear.

“Nothing… it’s just-” Luz struggled to find her words and Amity squeezed her girlfriend’s hand.

“I get what you mean.” She chuckled, a small smile on her face. Luz only smiled back.

They continued walking in silence towards Amity’s estate, but the silence was comforting.

Soon, the iron gates that led to the property appeared and Amity took a deep breath, releasing it a few moments after.

She touched the gate’s handle with her hand that wasn’t holding Luz’s. Luz didn’t want to let go either. She didn’t want to let go in case this was all a dream.

“I-” Amity started, but a gust of chilly autumn wind hit her face, messing her perfectly put lavender hair.

With a chuckle, Luz used her free hand to brush away the strands from Amity’s face, putting them behind her pointy ear.

Luz’s fingers traced Amity’s face, her thumb rubbing her cheek slowly.

Luz heard Amity’s breath hitch, a familiar flush coming to her face, heating the skin under Luz’s fingertips.

“You’re really pretty, Amity,” Luz said with a smile, feeling her cheeks burn too.

Amity giggled with an even bigger smile, squeezing Luz’s hand again.

Gosh, Luz wanted to kiss her. Right now.

“I’ll see you in school, Luz.” Amity smiled, finally letting go of Luz’s hand and opening the gate to her house.

“Bye!” Luz said as she watched Amity, who had her back turned to the house, still looking at Luz with her breathtaking smile.

She almost tripped on the steps, making Luz wince for a quick second, but once she saw Amity was okay, she continued smiling until Amity was out of her sight.

V.

What did they mean with Luz wasn’t feeling well to go after the Titan’s blood? SHE FELT GREAT.

Sure, the snakes that were in her arms were new, but George and Martha were amazing! George kept saying how hungry he was and how he wanted to eat the echo mouse, but Martha kept him grounded.

It kinda reminded Luz of her and Amity.

Amity, her cotton-candy-haired-goddess…

She couldn’t have asked for a better girlfriend. She had wasted the last two days in the Owl House taking care of her.

It was in these days that Eda had found a pair of old Tamagotchis and Luz had the great idea of giving one of them to Amity. And when she figured out that the emojis resembled letters? She felt so smart! Surely, her way smarter girlfriend would understand those.

Now, Luz sat in her room, trying to keep George from eating the Echo mouse who was sleeping soundly in a corner of the room.

She looked to her side and laying next to the picture that she had of her mom, the grom picture that Amity had given her earlier in the day.

Luz took it and Martha complained, something about if she held something, she wouldn’t be able to stop George from eating the mouse. Luz took the sock off her right hand off, tossing it somewhere in the room.

Holding the picture, she brushed her thumb as some memories of that night filled her mind, most of them were about Amity. Luz felt her face split into a big smile.

“Hey George, when did I get so lucky with having a goddess for a girlfriend?”

George mumbled something about he would only give her answers if she let him eat the mouse.

Luz ignored him, taking off the sock that was on her left hand, bringing the picture closer to her lips, kissing Amity.

“Don’t worry, Ami, I’m sure you’ll do great in your mission,” and she gave another kiss, imagining the real Amity in front of her.

As she still stared into the picture, the echo mouse that was sleeping soundly, woke up and walked on top of Luz's blanket.

Luz giggled and set the photo down.

“Hey, do you wanna hear the song I wrote for you?” Luz said and the mouse just tilted its head to the side, “It’s simple. Just listen.”

Luz took both of the mouse’s long ears in her hands (that were now free of snakes) and shook them around before singing.

“Little mouse, owl house, frilly blouse, boop!” she tapped the little skull of the mouse. As expected, the Echo Mouse started projecting.

VI.

It was too late for Amity to go home when she arrived at the Owl House after the events of her adventure to the Knee.

Sure, it wasn’t that late for both Willow and Gus. But it was different for them. They didn’t have parents that we're mad at them for standing up to what they believed was right.

Amity had.

So, Eda let her sleep at the Owl House. Having been in the same class as Odalia, she absolutely knew how much of an ass that woman could be when someone didn’t fulfill her expectations.

So here they were, a few hours after the return from the adventure of the knee, Luz and Amity sharing a room, their sleeping bags set close to each other, just a few inches between them. The only light in the room was the one provided by the moon outside the window.

They were currently holding hands and staring at each other’s eyes, their goofy smiles never seemed to leave their faces when they did this.

Suddenly though, Amity averted her eyes, a blush in her cheeks, squeezing Luz’s hand a little harder.

“Ami, what’s wrong?”

“It’s nothing really, I just…” she trailed off.

“Ami, I already told you I’m not mad about the key. You’re okay and that’s what matters to me.” Luz smiled, squeezing her hand.

“I know, and I’m glad you’re okay too.” Her girlfriend smiled, her thumb absentmindedly rubbing calming circles on Luz’s knuckles.

“Then what’s wrong?”

The witch stayed quiet, the blush on her cheeks deepening.

“I-I don’t wanna talk about it… it’s embarrassing…”

“Ami, you’re dating the dorkiest human in the world! There’s nothing that you can say to embarrass me, I thought we went over this.”

She stayed quiet.

“Alright, I’m not gonna push. Just know that I’m here for you okay? You don’t need to hide stuff from me. I’m not like Boscha or your parents. You can count on me.” Luz brought the back of Amity’s hand to her lips, kissing it.

They stood in silence, the slight purrs from Ghost and their heartbeats being the only sounds in the room.

Finally, Amity said something, her voice just above a whisper.

“I-I wanted to kiss you. That’s what I wanted to say,” Luz’s eyes widened, “B-But I don’t know if you’re ready or even if you want to and I didn’t want to push you and-”

Amity felt Luz’s other hand brush a strand of her hair behind her ear, just like she had done a few days ago.

“I want that too.” She whispered into the quiet room, feeling her cheeks burn too.

“O-Oh, well…” Amity averted her eyes before slowly leaning in.

She tried the kiss, but the position they were in on the floor was weird, so they just ended up bumping their noses together.

They groaned at the slight pain but giggled.

Luz then sat, bringing Amity up with her, a position way more comfortable.

Luz intertwined their fingers again, resting her forehead against Amity’s.

Luz was the one to lean in now, but she stopped just a hair strand away from Amity’s lips and looked into her eyes, for any kind of last-minute regret.

She didn’t find any.

The kiss was slightly shy. Luz wasn’t sure of what to do with her hand that wasn’t holding Amity’s. She closed her eyes once she got used to the feeling.

It was far from perfect. Their noses bumped a few times, teeth clacked awkwardly, heartbeats going wild in their chests.

Finally, they pulled back, out of breath despite the kiss being so short.

Luz opened her eyes and smiled when she saw the smile on Amity’s face.

“I don’t know why I was so nervous.” Amity chuckled, caressing Luz’s face with her free hand.

“Me neither.” Luz leaned into the touch, closing her eyes.

Then, Amity yawned, eyes half-lidded.

“C’mon, let’s get some sleep. We both have school tomorrow.”

Amity didn’t protest, only nodding and laying down.

“Goodnight, Luz…” she mumbled and Luz kissed her forehead tenderly.

“Goodnight, mi amor.”

Notes:

I had an extra scene of Eda telling them to stop making out and go back to bed, but it didn't fit with the mood so I cut if off. Thanks for reading! Kudos and comments are very appreciated! ♥
