Work Text:
Kiyoomi was a fair guy, to say the least. He considered himself very humble, very calm and gentle. He didn’t dare think of himself too highly, he hated anyone who did so.
Sure, many people were known to have a big ego and considered themselves likable and even going as far to say that they were untouchable, and Sakusa didn’t associate himself with them at all.
Until he did.
Kiyoomi has been having a good life in his university, the dorms have treated him very well and he doesn’t have a neighbor to his left so that was a win.
But that all came to a brutal stop whenever he was just exiting his dorm room, a long horrified gasp escaping from his throat when he felt a cold splash of water decorate him from front and down.
His short curls flattened against his face with his shorts and sweatshirt ruined and dark now. He wiped his eyes slowly and blinked multiple times to see that two guys that seemed around his age were staring at him with wide eyes.
“Atsumu, you gave us the wrong fucking number.” One of them managed to choke out.
Kiyoomi stared at them expectantly, bucking his body to physically demand an explanation.
The taller one let go of the bucket and let out an awkward laugh, “Hi. There was some sort of mixup. You see, my boyfriend right here- his twin told us that another friend of ours lived here and we do this silly prank war and… you know the rest-”
“Get. Out.” Kiyoomi seethed out, his fury barely contained in his trembling voice. He absolutely hated the fact that he probably looked like a livid wet cat. The brother of the evil twin blinked in confusion, speaking hesitantly.
“Pardon?” “Get out of my face. I don’t want to see either of you right now.” He said a pitch louder than he expected, though he couldn’t find it in himself to care. He didn’t know if he was either ready to get into a fight or storm off dramatically.
The boyfriend stammered, “We’re absolutely sorry! Can we treat you to anything? Do you want a gift card? I have one in my pocket that has fifteen dollars left! Ooh, Starbucks!”
Kiyoomi’s eye twitched, there was no way this was actually happening to him. “Get out!” “Alright, let’s go rin- hey! We’re super sorry! I’ll make sure to beat up my twin for ya’!”
With that, they both scampered off, both hissing in hushed voices to each other as they did so.
Kiyoomi let out a strangled scream before he opened up his door and stormed inside, slamming it right after.
Kiyoomi continued on with his day, only grumpier from then on. He didn’t want to know who the culprit was that gave the wrong address, he just wanted to simply move on with his life and act like that didn’t happen.
Sakusa laid on his bed with his earbuds on, listening to the queen of Latino music, Selena Quintanilla. He balanced his elbows on the mattress under him, his face neutral as he hummed along with the vocals. The song he was listening to at the moment was called, “Siempre estoy pensando en ti.” As he wrote his notes for his upcoming exam.
Studying was his chance to relax his body and enjoy the music echoing in his ears. If he was being honest, he kind of wished he was born years before so he could witness one of Selena’s live concerts.
She was an amazing person with a wonderful voice, he hated that Yolanda woman with a passion.
Pushing that aside for now, he was almost done finishing up the last of his few points when suddenly a loud bang was heard from next to his room.
Kiyoomi turned off his music and looked at the wall with a frown, his once swinging feet stopped their movements as well. When he decided to shrug off the sudden interruption, it happened again, only louder this time.
“The hell?” Sakusa hissed out, propping himself up on his forearms and knees before taking out an earbud. A muffled scream was heard afterwards, but then loud footsteps exited the room beside him.
Uneasiness washed over him. He hadn’t heard of anybody moving in beside him, so there couldn’t possibly be anyone there. Maybe it was a ghost. He frowned at the thought, he was being ridiculous.
A knock interrupted his head, at least it confirmed it wasn’t a ghost. He let out a sigh as he got up from his knees, swinging off his earbuds before they landed back on the bed.
“Coming,” he called softly, unlocking the door with no urgency. Maybe it was somebody asking for directions around the complex. It was a pretty confusing building, his stress was high when he was first moving in there. Once he finally opened the door, he felt his usual neutral face turn into one of shock. His eyebrows drew together along with his eyes widening, his lips pouting into an even deeper frown.
It was the guy from earlier, only now with pale wavy hair?
How—?
“Hey there, neighbor!” Kiyoomi’s expression slackened, neighbor?
The man in front of him looked completely different from earlier, wearing a different attire. He didn’t know if his vision was blurry from earlier, but he could definitely tell that he was paler on the skin hours prior. His eyes were hazel, though more on the brown side. He wore a lazy grin that shouldn’t be as attractive as it seemed, but Kiyoomi supposed people were just born lucky. He wore a simple outfit that consisted of a white tank top under an open buttoned shirt with navy shorts and slippers from just having come from his own apartment.
Wait.
“What? But I thought.” Kiyoomi peered out to look at the hallway, looking to the door on his right to check if the label said a new name. “Oh, not that dorm, the other one. I’m new here! I just moved here today. Well, startin’ to. Movin’ truck ain't done yet, ya’ know?” He let out an impolite laugh, making Kiyoomi scrunch his nose. What an ugly sound.
“You’re moving here?” Kiyoomi demanded, unable to stop the scowl from forming on his face. The man in front of him blinked, “Yeah! And I brought a tray of cookies as ya’ can see here. Think of it as a housewarming gift, but from me.”
Sakusa looked down and saw that he was, in fact, holding a tray of chocolate chip cookies. Kiyoomi raised his eyes again, only now with a more unimpressed look set on his face. “Is this some sort of apology from earlier? Why didn’t your boyfriend come?”
The bleached blond pushed his wavy short hair back, wearing a now nervous toothy grin. “Ah, you’ve got it mixed up. That was my twin and his boyfriend earlier. I came to apologize for what I did.”
“Oh, you’re the one that sent them here to splash me.” Kiyoomi grounded out, folding his arms across his chest bitterly. Who did this guy think he was? Didn’t he get the memo from his twin brother that he wanted nothing to do with him?
Clearly saying get out of my face meant bring another face of yours, just the one who was responsible. And sort of more attractive.
The bleached blond shook his head, “That was an accident. You see, I have a friend here from my old volleyball team from back in high school and we do this stupid prank war against each other and, you simply just got caught up in it. So here, apology cookies.”
Sakusa glared down at the cookies before his gaze snapped back up at the tannish man in front of him. “What, that’s it? Cookies? Couldn’t you have at least made sure the address was right?”
The guy’s smile wilted slightly, narrowing his eyes at his tone. “Uhm, I guess I was just so excited that I was moving in that I wasn’t bothered enough to check again? Yer’ dorm numbers were switched, that’s why there was a mix up.”
Kiyoomi scoffed, “Alright. Well thanks, but no thanks.”
He was already closing the door but a foot stopped it from closing all of the way.
The bleached blond opened the door up again but he wasn’t wearing his charming smile anymore, instead, his thick eyebrows were furrowed with a small frown on his lips, as if he were offended.
“Excuse me, but I’m trying to apologize here. A sincere apology might I add. Can you just let me be civil and set a good second impression so we can just move on from this honest mistake?”
Sakusa let out an unbelieving chuckle before he responded, “Like I said, no thanks. Can you leave now?”
The bleached blond stared at Kiyoomi in an unbelieving manner, his mouth gaped open before he snapped. “Are ya’ serious? Look, I spent about an hour trying to make these cookies here for you, smart guy. I even stubbed my toe on my way here. I think the least you could do is take them instead of being an ass.”
“What if you ended putting poison in this batch instead of your friends’? I don’t need another half assed apology after this one.” Kiyoomi asked with false innocence, tilting his head slightly.
The guy scoffed, scowling now. “Why can’t ya’ take the damn cookies and go on about yer’ day?” “Why don’t you just take them back and get out of my face?” Kiyoomi demanded snappishly, losing the last of the patience he barely even had.
The guy’s eyes widened, offense written over his face. “I’ll have ya’ know that I am the best at making cookies! Yer’ missing yer’ chance!” “I’ll take that pass in getting food poisoning, thanks.” Kiyoomi snarked once again, only furthering the guy’s growing anger.
“Fine! I don’t waste my time with people like you anyways! And oh, is that Selena back there?” His voice grew neutral at that moment, pointing behind Kiyoomi.
Kiyoomi looked back and saw that his door was open enough to see the poster of Selena on his wall. He looked at the man again, narrowing his eyes. “What about her?”
The guy hummed with a shrug, “Well, I’ve, uh heard of her, it’s too bad that she’s terrible at singing and she’s the worst Te-ja-no artist!” His voice went from soft and calm to booming at the end, the change sudden and taking the raven aback.
Kiyoomi’s eyes opened so wide, and at that moment he felt a rush of fury course through him like never before. It rivaled his anger from earlier. He didn’t know what to do except smack the tray of cookies down on the floor and slam his door.
The guy’s shocked expression was the last he'd seen of him.
“Fucking asshole!” He yelled, glowering at nothing in particular anymore. It was official.
He hated that guy.
Kiyoomi’s expression softened when his eyes landed on the Selena poster that asshole pointed out, “Don't listen to him, sel. He has no taste whatsoever, you’re the best of the best.”
“Unbelievable!” Atsumu yelled as he slammed his own door, tossing aside the tray of now discarded cookies on the counter beside him. He slumped down on his couch angrily with his arms crossed against his chest and a pout set on his lips. “I try to apologize and be the civil one and what does he do? Slam my damn peace offering on the ground!”
He tried to close his eyes and take calming breaths. He’s the bigger person. Unlike past fights with Osamu, he’s learned to better his temper. He didn’t have to waste his energy on that asshole, he had better things to do.
His foot tapped repeatedly against the floor, his fingers digging onto his skin the tighter he held himself before his eyes snapped open. He didn’t give a shit about self control and he wasn’t the bigger person. That guy was an asshole.
He picked up his phone from beside him and called up Osamu through FaceTime. He needed to rant.
It didn’t take long before Osamu answered on the third ring, ”What do ya’ want now?” He looked annoyed. “Samu! You were right, that guy is a total prick!” Osamu’s irritation bled off into exasperation, letting out a deep sigh. “I didn’t call him a prick, I just said he was a bit mean even after I explained the situation. What did ya’ do now?”
“Me? He was bein’ a total jerk! I spent the last hour making chocolate chip cookies! And ya’ know what he does when I offer them? Get mad and smack them right onto the hallway floor!”
Osamu sighed again, “Well, that can’t be all. Tell me what happened right from the top.”
And Atsumu did exactly that, making sure to tell every last bit of detail from that altercation. He couldn’t believe that- that someone so nice looking and infuriatingly attractive could be so damn rude.
“And so I saw them Selena posters on his wall behind him and I said ‘Selena is not the best Te-jano or however you pronounce it, artist!’ That's what I said, and then he got mad and smacked the tray on the floor!”
“Whoa dude, you never in your life diss Selena Quintanilla or Los Dinos.”
Suddenly, Rintarou made an appearance from behind Osamu.
Atsumu raised an eyebrow, “Rin, when did you get here?” “Don’t ask questions you don’t want the answer to. Anyways, you should’ve never done that. She’s well respected and her fans are ready to go down for her.”
Atsumu rolled his eyes, “I don’t even know her besides from the fact that she’s famous or whatever.” “You should watch her movie, it’s good. But they did make it two years after she died. That was kind of stupid.”
“Whoa, she’s dead? I thought she was still alive.” “Ya’ brick head! Why would they make a movie for her just as her career takin’ off?” “I don’t know! I didn’t even know she had a movie till a few seconds ago!”
Atsumu exclaimed, he thought talking to Osamu would make him feel better, but he guessed not.
“Look man, everyone knows Selena.” Rintarou spoke again, but Atsumu groaned loudly- interrupting him. “Whatever! Who cares who she is, this was about that dude not her!”
“I’m just saying, no matter if you’re Hispanic or not, you should at least know a bit of her.” Rintarou muttered, getting a soft reprimand from Osamu after. “Alright rin, that’s enough. Tsumu look, what do ya’ want us to do? He hates us, just mostly you now because of what you said apparently.”
Atsumu sulked, he didn’t want help, he just wanted to rant.
“Don’t know, I guess. I thought telling ya’ would help but you’re no help like always.” “Screw you.”
“Hey, you know what’d be fun?” Rintarou asked, his voice sounding like he was going was sort of hesitant to offer. Atsumu blinked hard before he answered. “What.” “Getting back at him.”
Atsumu sat up slightly, interested. “How so?” “It was kind of a dick move that he didn’t want a peace offering, so I suggest you do a little prank on him.”
“Huh..” Atsumu let out in thought. He liked the idea of getting his get back for his ruined cookies. He didn’t deserve to be treated like shit when he was sincerely apologizing for his mistake.
“Now you’re just adding things to his growing fire, Rin. Get out of here.” Osamu snapped at his snickering boyfriend.
“He might be onto something…” Atsumu muttered, staring down at the ground in thought. “Atsumu, it’s a stupid idea.” Osamu warned.
“That guy was being a jerk, samu.” “Shit, I’d be a jerk too if some guys splashed me with water when leaving my apartment! Be reasonable!” “One measly prank won’t do him any harm. He won’t even know it’s me, relax.”“I swear to God, If you end up doin’ something stupid—”
“Oh no, you’re crzzt— cutting out— crrzzzt- I’m gonna- crrkkkk- hang up—!” “This is FaceTime, you idiot! I can see you making those sounds!!—” “Bye now!”
And with that, he hung up. As he sighed and slumped back on the couch, he decided that he’d have to make some calls soon.
“Wait, stop. I’m literally so tired and uninterested in whatever you just said.” Komori groaned out, chin resting on his palm with a tired expression on his face.
They sat in a cafe, lights dimmed low as it rained and drizzled outside. Sakusa frowned, “Komori, I’m serious. My new neighbor is a total douche, he dissed Selena.”
“Whoa.” Komori furrowed his eyebrows, finally looking alerted. “Exactly.” “Well, what does he look like?”
Kiyoomi sighed, “He has bleached hair, pale colored. He has tannish skin and hazel eyes. He’s, I guess- built. More so than me but two inches shorter or so.”
“Holy shit.” Komori hissed, eyes widening. Kiyoomi blinked, confused. “What?” “Does he have a Kansai accent?” Komori demanded, making Sakusa nod dumbly.
“Sakusa Kiyoomi, were you born yesterday? That’s Miya fucking Atsumu! The guy I’ve been telling you about? The hottie that was going to move in? He’s going to play on the volleyball team here?”
“Him?”
“Yes!”
“He’s a total dick though!”
“You’re the one who was being stubborn about the situation! He was apologizing!”
“Wha- you’re taking his side?”
“Cousin, if he’d run me over I’d still take his side. He’s hot! In fact, I’d tell him to run me over a second time.”
Sakusa groaned, “how are you even my cousin?” “Anyways, we should start heading back so you can apologize to him.” “What? Why me?” Kiyoomi gaped at Motoya, who gave him a stern look. “In all seriousness, you were in the wrong Kiyoomi. He was trying to apologize and you just treated him like that. He’s a new neighbor, you should cut him some slack. Plus, he’s not the one who splashed you, it was all an accident.”
Kiyoomi pouted, “It doesn’t feel good ranting and then being told I’m the one who’s wrong.” “You have too many issues Kiyo, this is like the first time I’ve told you you’re wrong. Come on, let’s go.”
Kiyoomi sighed and stood up from his seat, following his cousin after he picked up his coffee.
They both walked under an umbrella as they made their way over to the dorms, both tired from being up and about so early in the morning.
Maybe Komori was right, he might’ve been too harsh on that Miya guy yesterday. Ugh, he complained internally. He hated it when Komori was right.
He was glad he had a friend here in the university though, aside from Kita in one of his classes. Komori has basically been with Kiyoomi his whole life and got him into his passion of volleyball. The hazelnut haired male was always there to help and laugh with, no matter what.
Kiyoomi appreciated that.
But he wasn’t going to say that to his face, Komori would demand more affection.
As they made their way back to Kiyoomi’s dorm room, he let out a sigh of exhaustion. “I don’t want to apologize to him.” “Well you’re going to, because if you don’t, I’m going to bother you until you do.”
“I can’t believe I’m letting you push me around. Maybe I should tell auntie.” “I’m pushing you around because I’m being the responsible adult here.” Kiyoomi rolled his eyes with a small smile playing onto his lips.
After taking the elevator up to his room, they made their way to knock on Miya’s door but after a few moments of thinking it over, Kiyoomi wasn’t ready just yet. So he distracted Komori a bit. “Hey, I want to change into something more comfortable. I’m gonna take a nap after this.”
Komori raised an eyebrow at him before reluctantly agreeing, “Alright, whatever. Hurry it up. I’m gonna leave after this to study.” Kiyoomi started unlocking his door, “Don't you mean binge watch a show?” “It’s getting to the good part, shut up.”
“Yeah, yeah.” Kiyoomi snickered as he was being pushed in. As he went into his room to change, he decided to give Miya his own peace offering. Because, why not? It’s not an apology unless you really meant it, right?
He was a bit harsh yesterday, he had a weird nag of doing that. He still hated him for saying that stuff about Selena, but maybe recommending some of her music would help. Perhaps if he started off with the new Netflix series he’d become interested.
So when he settled on wearing sweatpants and a loose t-shirt, it was about time he’d go apologize. He’ll offer Miya to go out for coffee sometime to make up for what happened to those cookies.
It was a shame, now that he thought about it. Those cookies did look delicious.
He and Komori were making their way out and it only took a few steps to be in front of Miya’s dorm.
Kiyoomi stared at the door with his knuckles ready to knock, feeling hesitant and somehow uneasy. Was Miya even up at this time?
“Go ahead, Kiyo. I’ll just be in your dorm eating your food so he won’t think I forced you.” Komori patted his shoulder, grinning. Kiyoomi blinked. “But you did force me.” “Shhhhh.” Motoya pressed his finger against Sakusa’s lips before slowly entering Kiyoomi’s dorm.
With that, Kiyoomi knocked on the door. After a few seconds, a muffled call from inside reached him. ‘Coming!’
He looked around for a bit before the door opened, revealing just barely out of the shower Miya. Good God, his white shirt was sticking into his wet skin. Kiyoomi forced himself to look straight into his face, clearing his throat.
Miya’s hazel eyes scanned Kiyoomi’s features for a bit before he narrowed his eyes at him warily, eyebrows scrunching up with a frown.
“What.”
Sakusa shut his eyes for a moment, you’re here to apologize so be as nice as possible.
He sighed before he started, “Listen, about yesterday. I was a prick about the whole situation. I know you’re a new person here and you don’t want the first thing that happens to you when you move in is having your neighbors hate you and you hating them. I just want to apologize for what I did and said, it was uncalled for. It wasn't even you that did it. It was your twin and his boyfriend and I suppose it’s a bit funny. Anyways, those cookies looked delicious so I’m also sorry for wasting them. I’m here to see if you want to go for some coffee, as my own peace offering. I’m Sakusa Kiyoomi, by the way.”
Miya raised an eyebrow, looking interested for a moment. “Sakusa-kun. Ya’ want to take me out on a date?” Kiyoomi’s face flushed, “N-No! It’s to make up for the cookies! I don’t know how to bake. So that’s the only thing I can really offer.”
Miya hummed, “Well, I guess I can forgive ya’ for what happened. My apology still stands then, but I feel kind of bad that I said mean things about Selena, I didn’t even know she passed. I thought she was still alive because they just made a series based off of her life.” Sakusa smiled.
“It’s pretty good, you should consider watching it and then listen to some of her music.” Atsumu sighed, letting a small smile take over his lips right after. “I’ll keep that in mind. Well, do ya’ want to get some coffee now? I just freshened up so..”
Kiyoomi cringed at the idea of going to the cafe twice, he was full. But this was for the sake of forgiveness. Oh well. “Sure, let me put my shoes on.” “W-Whoa, hold on.”
Without a second thought, he slipped on the shoes he left outside to air dry that he cleaned before he cringed at the odd feeling under his feet. He kicked them off with a disgusted groan coming from his mouth.
“What the hell is this?” “Shit…”
Kiyoomi whipped his head around and faced Atsu- Miya, who wore a pinched expression on his face. “Did you do this?” Kiyoomi demanded, eyes wide. Miya stammered before fully responding. “I-I didn’t know you were going to apologize! I thought it’d been even!”
“These were obviously just cleaned! Couldn’t you have picked somehow else to get your stupid revenge?!” “How? By breaking into your house and drawing on one of your pictures? I didn’t exactly have many options!” “Whoa, what’s all this yelling about?”
Motoya’s head peeked out from Kiyoomi’s dorm, looking at the both of them in alarm. “Look what he did! You told me to apologize and look at what he did! He some slimy shit in my shoes! My brand new ones!” Sakusa whined at the last part.
“Whoa- he told you to apologize? What the hell, I thought ya’ were being sincere!” Miya suddenly sounded angry, scowling. Kiyoomi glared at the bleached blond, “I was! But I guess I’m taking it all back! You’re so obnoxious!”
“Ya’ can’t even write me down as obnoxious when you don’t even know me!” “I know enough!” Sakusa snapped, “Watch yourself! I’m gonna get back at you with something when you least expect it.”
Miya narrowed his eyes at the raven. “Two can play at that game.” “Oh yeah?” “Yeah!” “I don’t think I care!” Sakusa yelled before grabbing his shoes and pushing Komori and himself into his dorm.
Locking the door, Sakusa muttered out a few words. “I officially hate that stupid Miya Atsumu.”
The days were slow, but with Sakusa Kiyoomi haunting him, it made him jumpy and unnerved. That man was evil, but Atsumu wouldn’t let some guy one up him.
They had been at each other for the past few weeks and wouldn’t let each other rest for even a second. A few examples of the hell they’ve been put through were-
When Sakusa had told Atsumu he would get him back, he wasn’t kidding. Atsumu got mail the next few days after their altercation and while opening up one of the letters, an explosion of glitter attacked him everywhere. It wasn’t a small explosion.
He had glitter in his hair for weeks. he might still have some.
Atsumu got him back though, he made sure he did. He got an alarm clock that had no button to stop its sounds or vibrations and left it outside of Sakusa’s dorm at 2 in the morning. Atsumu laughed when he heard Kiyoomi screaming in his dorm an hour later.
‘SHUT THE HELL UP YOU ANNOYING PIECE OF PLASTIC!!-‘ *Beep! Beep! Beep!* ‘DON’T INTERRUPT ME!!”
Of course, it was only natural that Sakusa got him back soon enough.
Sakusa must’ve gotten in contact with one of Atsumu’s girl friends because she somehow convinced Atsumu to let her do her makeup on him for her upcoming date but after they were done he couldn’t get it off for at least two days.
He walked around campus like an idiot. The worst part is that when he passed by Sakusa in the hallways, he heard the asshole snicker next to him for a quick second.
Atsumu hated having stuff on his face.
If Sakusa was playing like that, Atsumu decided to get some help of his own. So he got Sakusa’s friend, which turned out to be his cousin, Komori Motoya. He was hesitant to help out at first but when he found out Sakusa used one of Atsumu’s close friends for the pranks thrown at each other, he reluctantly agreed.
Atsumu found out what Sakusa’s favorite series was and spoiled it in the afternoon.
He had screamed it loudly so Sakusa could hear in his own dorm. ‘OH MY GOD, DR. ALEXEI DIES?! WHY DID THAT GUY, GRIGORI, SHOOT HIM?! THAT’S SO MESSED UP, HE WAS JUST ENJOYING THE AMUSEMENT PARK! I HOPE HE WAS NOBODIES FAVORITE IN THIS DORM OR IF THEY’VE WATCHED THIS NEW EPISODE OR ELSE THIS WOULD REALLY HURT THEM SINCE THEY’RE PROBABLY LISTENING TO ME SCREAM RIGHT NOW!”
…
Sakusa screamed, but Atsumu bursted out laughing.
“I HATE YO-!!”
Sakusa got in contact with Osamu and threw out all of Atsumu’s underwear and switched them with hello kitty ones.
Atsumu got Komori to switch all of Sakusa’s black and blue pens to glitter pens.
Sakusa got a bucket full of water and placed it on top of Atsumu’s door and watched it fall on the bleached blonde as he was ready to go out for a run, laughing hysterically before getting his mail.
Atsumu got Komori to move everything in Sakusa’s dorm just a bit slightly to the left. Atsumu heard Sakusa’s call to his mother telling her he was going crazy because he swore a ghost moved his belongings.
Prank after another, blah blah blah.
But someone had to snap eventually.
Atsumu must’ve gotten Sakusa on the wrong day, because since then, it’s been nothing but radio silence from the raven. Atsumu didn’t understand what he could’ve done that drew a line there, his prank wasn’t even huge at all.
Atsumu had put an air freshener that had a nasty smell to it through the middle of his and Sakusa’s air vent that would waft itself to the raven’s dorm. Atsumu had been watching one of his shows when he got a soft knock on his door, making him open the door to see Sakusa standing in his doorway holding the air freshener with the most tired expression ever.
Were those eye bags under his eyes?
Atsumu didn’t get a chance to say anything before Sakusa started speaking. “I’m done… you win. I don’t want to do this anymore.” Atsumu grabbed the air freshener from Sakusa, then feeling a bit of concern in the pit of his stomach.
“Sakusa? What’s wrong?” He couldn’t help but ask. He knew they hated each other in everything, but Atsumu wasn’t so deeply into this pranking thing so that it would affect Sakusa negatively.
The curly haired man shut his eyes before shaking his head, “Nothing. You got me. Good game. These past few weeks have been fun and shitty, but I give up. Good night.”
Atsumu watched as Sakusa made his way over to his own dorm, his concern growing when he simply went in without another word.
Atsumu had been unnerved the entire time now that he and Sakusa hadn’t been at each other’s necks. He’d asked Komori if Sakusa was alright but he got an unsatisfying answer, which was- “Eh? He seems alright to me. He’s been busy and focusing more on his studies as usual.”
He remembered talking to Osamu about the situation, but his brother was once again useless. “Huh? No, I don’t know anything about that guy. Why? Ya’ already drove him mad or something? Haha, I knew he’d reach his breaking point! It’s official, yer’ only good at driving the attractive ones mad.”
Attractive, really?
I mean sure, he’s got his good looks, but Atsumu was only focused on their hatred for each other. Only that.
Right?
Atsumu sulked on his couch, tapping his foot repeatedly on the ground. He hated the silence. He found himself somehow waiting and hoping for Sakusa’s pranks a bit. He kind of looked forward to it since he wanted to do so much better than him.
He wanted to one up Mr. Know-it-all Sakusa.
He… missed him.
As that thought seemed to register in Atsumu’s head and made his cheeks flush, a loud thunder rumbled from behind him, making the room vibrate a bit. Atsumu sighed and dimmed the lights, opting to search for a series to watch on Netflix to take his mind off of the raven and enjoy the sounds of rain from outside.
But the sound of Sakusa’s bloody scream had him jump slightly.
Kiyoomi was tired out of his mind. He’s been a walking zombie for days. He hated that he overwhelmed himself with trying to keep his grades up, but recently, he’s been slacking off and it showed. He decided that the pranks took up too much of his time, so he ended it before his grades dropped even more.
He hated that part of himself was looking forward to one of Miya’s pranks, it was the most- you could say- fun he’s had in a while. Sakusa sighed as he grabbed one of his pans to make scrambled eggs, only able to look forward to the even more studying he had to do after eating.
But when loud thunder suddenly rumbled from behind him, making the lights flicker a bit, Kiyoomi noticed the movement of a huge spider next to his pan.
Kiyoomi jumped back and started screaming, falling to the ground when he lost his balance.
“What the fuck!” His body jolted upwards to grab his blanket to wrap around him and his phone before exiting the dorm. Loud rain sounded in his ears, making him groan in annoyance.
Great, just great.
He had to call an exterminator now because in no way would he enter a foot in that dorm unless he was reassured that it was free of disgusting insects or vermin.
After he made the call, Sakusa looked around.
Should he go to Motoya’s dorm? It’s too far, plus he mentioned earlier in their call that he’d be busy. He knew some of his neighbors, but he didn’t interact much with them unless they said ‘hi’ or ‘how are you doing?’
Kiyoomi made the mistake of letting his eyes linger over the door with the number 512 on it.
Miya’s dorm.
Sakusa sighed, “No way. I can’t do that.”
Even more loud thunder interrupted him, taunting and making the raven squeal slightly before running over to the door and knocking.
He hoped he didn’t look too pathetic with a blanket wrapped around himself.
“Who is it?” Miya’s voice sounded from inside, he kind of sounded tired and bored. “It’s me..” Sakusa responded loudly enough, feeling his ears burn in humiliation.
He heard a small thump before the door opened in a span of few seconds, a gap revealing Miya looking at him with furrowed eyebrows. “Sakusa? What do you want?” Kiyoomi thinned his lips before responding. “I uhm, had a problem in my dorm and I can’t stay there.”
Miya narrowed his eyes, “Yeah, so?”
Kiyoomi felt a swarm of annoyance flare up in him, he tried not to let it show on his face. “Look, I need a place to stay while my dorm is getting checked over. I have this upcoming exam and I need to study. It won’t be for long, I promise. I’ll return the favor somehow, I just- I can’t keep letting my grades drop.”
Miya looked judgemental, keeping his glare. “Why the hell should I help you?”
Kiyoomi closed his eyes, letting his shoulders drop in exhaustion. “Because I know you’re not a bad person.” A beat of silence got in between them before Miya clicked his tongue and opened the door fully. “Hurry up before I change my mind.”
Sakusa complied reluctantly, feeling his eye twitch. He hated this already. There was no doubt that they both hated each other, so it felt humiliating having to reach out for help from someone who would probably think it was funny later on.
Kiyoomi stared dumbfoundedly around the place, it was actually very neat. Not how he pictured it exactly. He just didn’t know if he was allowed to sit anywhere.
“Why are ya’ just standing there? You know you can sit wherever.” Kiyoomi shifted on his feet slightly. “Thanks..”
Miya gave him a look before shrugging and flopping onto the couch, “So, studying was the reason why ya’ wanted to stop with the pranks and such?”
Kiyoomi sat on the small couch next to Atsumu, scrolling through his phone to get to an app to edit his notes.
“I suppose so.” “Oh come on, ya’ can’t tell me ya’ couldn’t do both. I thought you’d be a smart guy who didn’t waver.” Miya snarked, making Kiyoomi have to refrain from rolling his eyes. This guy just knew how to get under his skin.
“I’m not a robot, alright?” Miya hummed, “Of course yer not, but ya’ certainly act like one. Oh no, your grades dropped a bit, big deal. Plus, yer’ cousin says ya’ study a lot. Don’t ya’ ever catch a break or some? Are ya’ always this uptight?”
Maybe the cafe was better than putting up with this crap.
“I don’t want to be rude, especially in your own dorm. But can you please let me study in peace?” Kiyoomi asked as nicely as he could, keeping his eyes on his phone so he wouldn’t accidentally glare at him.
Miya only shrugged, “It’s fine, it’s fine. Anyways, are ya’ hungry? Anything ya’ want?” “I’m fine, thanks.” “Okay.”
After that small annoying conversation, Miya only continued looking through Netflix, the soft clicking of the remote and the hard rain from outside being the only type of sound between the two of them.
“Oh hey, it’s that series I talked about before. That Selena woman you listen to?.” Sakusa looked up to see Atsumu looking at the Selena series that just came out on Netflix. He sat up. “You should watch it, it’s pretty good.”
Miya hummed, “Would I get it? Rin mentioned something about the movie being good.” Sakusa nodded, “It's good, but the series explains a lot with a bit more detail. You could watch the movie after and then listen to some of her songs.”
Miya smirked over at him, “Already think I’d like it?” Kiyoomi raised an eyebrow, “No doubt about it, you’ll get immediately hooked onto Selena, you’ll see.”
The wavy bleached blond haired male only sighed and complied easily, “I’m bored, I guess I’ll give it a try and see what all the hype is about.”
Kiyoomi smiled, looking forward to watching it a second time. He wouldn’t admit that the end of the series made him bawl like a baby, especially when they played ‘Dreaming of you.’ That was practically his comfort song.
Okay.
So watching Selena with Miya wasn’t his ideal plan, but they ended up ordering some food while watching the series.
He couldn’t help it. It was perfect weather outside to watch the series. It was raining, Miya dimmed the lights, they ate as they watched and exchanged commentary.
Kiyoomi obliged easily to the questions Miya had, it was somehow pretty exciting answering questions about his favorite artist. Miya seemed interested the moment Selena got on stage and started singing ‘Como la flor’ at the beginning of the first episode.
“That’s Selena actually singing, not the actress.” “Really? Wow, you could’ve fooled me. She’s doing a great job. Selena had an amazing voice.” “Right?”
And just how Miya liked some people already, he seemed to not like Abraham right away. “Of course a little girl can’t feel romantic love at such a young age, geez.”
Sakusa found Miya’s commentary funny as they watched.
“What the, why is he making Suzette play the drums? She obviously doesn’t want to, the hell?”
“She looks miserable up there.”
“That Abraham guy is getting on my nerves, it’s not embarrassing using food stamps to provide for your family if it’s yer’ last option.”
Miya guffawed as Abraham left A.B and Suzette at the store, “I admit, that’s pretty funny!”
He went back to hating him, “How is he going to get mad at them when they didn’t even want to pursue music anyways? Except for Selena. That dad is a selfish prude. I wouldn’t make my kids do something they don’t want.”
“No way is he thinking to fit that whole family into that small storage place- yeah, tell him Mrs. Quintanilla! Look at Suzette, she’s tearing up.”
“I’d drive that truck if it meant providing for my family.”
“Do they really have lights and stuff for that wedding?” “No, he lied.” “Of course he did- what- now he’s making A.B get in a trash can and get peach cans? Oh my God.”
“Whoa, they actually did a good job on the lights.”
“Oh, she doesn’t speak Spanish? I thought she did..” “She was born in America, her first language wasn’t Spanish.”
When that episode finished with a slight time skip, Sakusa looked over at Miya who paused on the next episode as it began. “So?” He asked.
Miya only sighed and gave him a thumbs up, “Other than that dad, I like this. Wanna watch the next episode?” “Yeah.”
Sakusa’s phone pinged with a notification, making him look over next to his lap and see that the exterminator texted him and said he was all set. “Oh, I’ve got to go.”
“Awe, what? Ya’ can’t go now, we’re just starting!” Kiyoomi sighed, “My dorm is all set, plus I shouldn’t overstay my semi-welcome.” “Omi, yer’ welcome fully now, can’t ya’ stay a bit more? Ya’ have to take a break, I can tell ya’ overwork yerself.”
Kiyoomi blinked at him before he snorted, “Omi? Is that my nickname?”
Miya paused before he scratched the back of his neck in a distracted manner. “Sakusa is too long. Come on, let’s just watch this! Only for a bit more.”
Kiyoomi chuckled when Atsumu wore a pleading look, pouting pathetically as he pressed his hands together. “Fine. But only because you ordered us food and we’re watching my favorite series.”
“Of course, but also because you’ll miss my pretty face.” Atsumu teased, wearing a toothy grin. Kiyoomi rolled his eyes, “In your dreams.” Atsumu only laughed.
After watching two more episodes and Kiyoomi thanking Atsumu for letting him in his dorm, Kiyoomi left and went to his own respective living space, deciding to go to bed to sleep.
He couldn’t help the smile that curved on his lips.
Atsumu tossed the volleyball mid-air with his tongue poking out of his lips, panting as he ran up to smack it over the white net. The satisfying loud thump had him smirk.
“I thought you were a setter, Atsumu.” Rintarou called out from where he stood, back against the wall as he watched the said male.
“There’s no harm in practicing some good ol’ spikes.” “I suppose you’re right, you’ve been in a better mood all of a sudden ever since last week. What happened to the whole, hating the guy who pranked me back but suddenly sad that he wasn’t pranking me back, fiasco?”
Atsumu frowned, “I wasn’t sad. I was bored. Anyways, he had a problem in his dorm room last week and he needed a place to study so I let him study at my place and we ended up ordering food and watching that Selena series he mentioned before. It’s actually so good, you should watch it.”
Rintarou’s eyes widened, looking comical for a moment before he started laughing. “Holy shit! You actually like the guy!” Atsumu’s face burned up, and not because of what Suna said.
“What are ya’ talking about? I don’t like him! What are ya’ even saying? We just watched a series together!” “Yeah, but no one makes you smile like that!” Suna accused, straightened up and off of the wall.
Atsumu only let out an exasperated sigh, shoulders dropping with a tired expression on his face. Suna wouldn’t let go of this soon, would he?
Even if Atsumu did like Kiyoomi, what was the big deal? It’s just a measly crush. It wouldn’t go anywhere. “I smile at everyone, doofus. Ya’ can’t assume I like someone because I smile when I talk about them.”
“I don’t want to be an ass or anything, but you haven’t smiled like that ever since you and Nao broke up.” Atsumu shrugged, “She’s happier with that guy, I’m glad she’s happy.” “Yeah but, you haven’t been happy like that in a while. You should consider being in the market again.”
Atsumu frowned, “I’ve been in the market, but maybe omi isn’t.” “Omi? Wow, you already have a nickname for him.” “Stop, okay? It doesn’t matter if I like him or not, I don’t know if he’s single or not.” Atsumu suddenly snarked in an annoyed voice, turning away from Suna to smack the volleyball down repeatedly until he held it in his hands to glare at.
Suna didn’t seem to be phased by his irritation, he only simply asked “You want me to check for you?” With a smile in his voice.
”No.” I don’t need you to check anything for me. Don’t be weird about this, alright?” Atsumu warned, turning to give Suna a look of warning with furrowed eyebrows. Rintarou only shrugged, making his way out of the gym backwards as he smirked at the bleached blond.
“I won’t do anything.” “Rin.” “I promise~” Suna sang out, but he then grunted when he bumped against someone behind him.
Komori’s face appeared, but then he blushed after a few seconds. “Hi!” He squeaked out, staring up at Rintarou with widened eyes. Rintarou smiled down at him, “Hey, sorry about that.” “I-It’s totally fine! Sorry for bumping into you! Well not looking where I’m going, or- erm..”
Suna only chuckled, “It’s fine, it was totally my fault. I’ll see you around, okay?” “Y-Yeah!”
And with that, Suna left after giving Atsumu one last glance. Atsumu watched as Komori smiled to himself before realizing Atsumu was there. “Oh, hey! I didn’t see you there.”
Atsumu only blinked before he spoke, “Rin and my brother are in an open relationship, ya’ know? They’ve been looking for a plus one.” Komori flushed even more, “Why-Why would I need to know that?” “Oh come on, yer’ not hidin’ it well. Don’t worry, they don’t know. I can put in a good word for ya’.”
Komori gave him a weak smile, “That'd actually be so great.”
“Thank you for walking me up here, Wakatoshi. I did tell you that it was alright, though. I hope I didn’t take up too much of your time.”
Kiyoomi spoke as he walked upstairs with Ushijima, both deciding that walking and talking instead of using the elevator was more enjoyable. They were both good friends, and they ended up studying in the library before they decided it was time to go to their respective dorms.
But then Ushijima decided to walk him back to his dorm, making Kiyoomi roll his eyes in exasperation. Wakatoshi was just that nice and considerate.
“Nonsense, I was the one who offered to walk you up here.” “You act so formal, Wakatoshi.” “It’s just how I am, Kiyoomi. You know this.”
Kiyoomi smiled as he walked up to his door, “Do you want to stay over and watch some tv for a bit?” “It depends on what we’re going to watch.”
Sakusa hummed, opening his door. “I’m feeling a rom-com tonight?” Ushijima smiled in an amused manner. “If I didn’t know you at all, I would be so shocked.” “Har har.”
The elevator doors on the opposite side of them dinged open, making both of the men look over slightly to see who it was.
Kiyoomi felt his breath get caught up in his throat when he realized it was Atsumu.
Atsumu was wearing a black hat on his head with the fringe of his hair poking out under, a white t shirt with its sleeves rolled up to his shoulders and tan shorts that went down to his knees with some sports shoes on.
And by his sweaty disheveled demeanor, he interpreted that he just came back from the gym or something.
Atsumu seemed to get a glimpse of him as well because he had his crooked grin on his face, waving. “Hey omi-omi! What’s up? Oh-.”
Atsumu stopped walking towards him, seeming to stare at Ushijima now. He hesitated before his eyebrows drew together and frowned, “Sorry, I didn’t mean to interrupt whatever your little—” “Oh no, it’s fine. We weren’t talking or anything.” Kiyoomi dismissed him easily.
The three of them stood in awkward silence for a couple of seconds before Kiyoomi broke it. “Erm, Wakatoshi, this is my new neighbor that recently just moved in here, Atsumu. Atsumu, this is my good friend from high school, Wakatoshi.”
They shook hands, scanning each other’s features while doing so. “Hey there, Wakatoshi. Good friend, huh?” Atsumu asked with a tilt of his head. Ushijima nodded firmly, his expression firm.“Yes, pleasure to meet you. I’ve heard so much about you.”
Kiyoomi wished he hadnt introduced them at that moment, because Atsumu’s eyes widened with his smirk coming back up. “Oh really? What’ve you heard about me?” Wakatoshi blinked slowly before answering.
“I’ve only just heard that you were an okay guy, but Kiyoomi here used to say mean things about you. For example, that you were a douchebag and a nuisance.—”
“Okay, you can stop Wakatoshi.” Kiyoomi snapped, glaring at his friend. Atsumu feigned hurt with a pained expression, pressing a dramatic hand against his chest and his forehead. “Ya’ wound me Omi! How could ya’ say such vile things about me?”
“Don’t forget I hated your guts not even a week ago.” Sakusa pointed out with an unimpressed expression, making Atsumu straighten up and only wave him off. “Ugh, forgive and forget. It hurts that I don’t even know much about ya either. I didn’t know you had friends aside from toya. No offense.”
Atsumu crossed his arms across his chest, looking at Ushijima with a tight smile. “And he’s a pretty good looking one.”
Sakusa narrowed his eyes at Atsumu, “Are you actually hitting on him right now?”
Atsumu flushed, “No! I’m just saying, by the looks of it, it could be that yer’ dating or something?” “He has a boyfriend, idiot. We’re going to watch a movie together.”
“Oh, how’d your girlfriend feel about that then?” Atsumu suddenly asked quietly, hazel eyes staring into Sakusa’s dark ones quizzically. Sakusa’s lip curled in exasperation, frowning. “What makes you think I’m dating someone all of a sudden? I’m gay and single, Atsumu.”
The bleached blond seemed relieved for a moment before frowning. “I don’t get it.” “Don’t get what?” Kiyoomi asked in an exasperated voice, his eyebrows drawing together.
Atsumu smiled, “How someone as pretty as you is still single.”
That made Kiyoomi’s heart jump and cheeks flush. If Atsumu noticed, he didn’t make it obvious since he only waved goodbye to them. “Alright, I’ll let y’all enjoy yer’ movie. I’ll see ya’ around omi-omi!”
“Goodbye, it was nice meeting you.” Ushijima spoke from behind Kiyoomi, who was still malfunctioning by the door. When Atsumu’s door clicked shut, Wakatoshi let out a chuckle, taking Kiyoomi out of his trance.
“Why are you laughing?” Sakusa asked, trying to tamper down the slight rush of embarrassment he had. “No reason, just the fact that he’s already caught your heart.”
With those final words, Ushijima made his way inside of Kiyoomi’s dorm, leaving the said male staring after him in a dumbfounded manner.
As the weather grew harsher and harsher, there was notice of a bug taking down a few students in the dorms. Kiyoomi was careful around everyone and used his masks, making sure that his cousin was also safe.
Being careful also meant that he was diverting away from people, including Atsumu. It’d been a while see he’d heard from him, so he decided to pay him a visit.
When Kiyoomi knocked on his door, he was understandably surprised when he saw it wasn’t Atsumu, but his twin brother, Osamu.
He was wearing a mask and blinking confusedly at him. “Hey there, what are ya’ doin’ here?” Kiyoomi should’ve known that Atsumu was sick. That was the only reasonable reason that he hadn’t been showing up anywhere.
“Oh, I was just checking up on Atsumu. I hadn’t seen him in days and I was just wondering if he was alright.”
Osamu narrowed his eyes at him, “Since when have you cared about him? Also, are y’all on a first name basis?” Kiyoomi frowned, he’d forgotten that he hadn’t really apologized to Osamu for being rude to him in their first interaction.
“I guess so, we’ve gotten along after our pranks were done.” Osamu sighed, resting his forearm on the doorframe while jabbing a thumb behind him. “Well that idiot got sick with the bug going around. He wouldn’t take care of himself after working out for whatever reason. He’s been whining like a damn baby and he’s so annoying.”
Kiyoomi could only imagine how dramatic Atsumu would be.
“I'm free right now.”
He blurted out of nowhere, only making Osamu raise an eyebrow at him again. “What?”
Kiyoomi winced, he sounded to desperate. He decided to charge head on, though. “I could watch him for a bit so you can catch a break. We haven’t gotten a chance to watch a series together like usual anyways. So…”
Osamu smirked, “Of course I’ll take a chance in getting away from my awful twin! Hey, he doesn’t need anything but rest right now I’ve already fed him. I’ll be going out somewhere with my boyfriend, so I’ll be back in a few hours okay?”
Kiyoomi nodded. “Alright.”
After Osamu left them, Kiyoomi shut the door behind them and saw Atsumu’s form on the couch wrapped around blankets and wearing a mask with a wet towel on his forehead.
“Samu?” He weakly let out, his voice sounding hoarse.
“No, unfortunately it’s me. The grim reaper. Sorry I had to show up so early.”
Atsumu sat straight up with wide eyes, but the corner of his eyes immediately crinkled as he grinned, “omi!” Kiyoomi rushed over to him, his hands gently pushing him down by his shoulders.
“You idiot, don’t move too fast. You’re supposed to be resting.” “Can ya’ blame me? I’ve missed seeing ya’ omi-omi.” Kiyoomi’s ears heated up, frowning. “Don’t be dumb, just lay down and rest.”
“Wha- I can’t just rest now! Yer’ here! Wait- yer’ here.. omi, you’ll get sick! Get out!” “I won’t get sick, I’ll be fine. I’m wearing a mask.” Atsumu’s eyebrows furled distastefully.
“Masks don’t stop every sickness from getting to you.” “Awwe what’s this? Getting worried for me, Atsumu?” Kiyoomi teased with his own grin splaying on his face.
Atsumu’s face flushed a shade deeper as he stuttered, “N-No! Shut up!” Atsumu threw a pillow at him, who caught the pillow and waved it slightly. “I’m keeping this.” “It has my germs~” Atsumu sung, making Sakusa throw the pillow at him.
Atsumu laughed before settling back down, “Do ya’ wanna continue watching Selena?” “Sure, what episode are you in?” “Episode six, I’ve been so busy I haven’t gotten the chance to watch it much.”
“Okay, we’ll at least finish part one today. Your brother said he’ll be hanging out with his boyfriend.” “Oh cool! Hey, wanna order some food in again?” “I’ll never say no to food, but who’s paying?”
“I paid last time, and I’m sick.” “Ugh, whatever.”
Watching Selena and ordering food with Atsumu was somehow pretty nice and it made Kiyoomi happy. He looked forward to hanging out with him and listening to Atsumu grumble about how he doesn’t like Abraham and how he thinks Chris is pretty handsome, which made Kiyoomi not feel jealous.
It was nice being with Atsumu in general.
So when he noticed that Atsumu’s eyes flutter shut as an episode just finished playing, he felt a slight pang of disappointment at the thought of him leaving Atsumu again.
He supposed it was time to leave anyway since he’d been with him for a couple of hours, so he decided to change his wet towel for another one before he left.
Before he rested the new wet towel on Atsumu’s hot forehead, Kiyoomi’s eyes trailed over his handsome disheveled features.
He looked so calm and gentle when he was sleeping. Atsumu was always attractive, even when making ugly faces, but he was sure nobody has seen him like Kiyoomi was seeing him right now. He wanted to be selfish and keep the sight to himself.
He blamed the sudden impulsive nervous rush he had that made him do the next action. His warm lips pressed against Atsumu’s forehead, giving him a small kiss.
As he separated himself from him, he realized what he had just done and flushed darkly from embarrassment. To his luck, Atsumu didn’t wake up from that and Kiyoomi just finished resting the towel on his forehead.
Kiyoomi made his way to leave the door before he heard Atsumu’s groggy voice.
“Thanks for the goodnight kiss, omi-omi.”
Sakusa bolted out of the dorm after that.
Sakusa laid on his bed and flushed at the memory of kissing Atsumu. He’s been avoiding the said male and all he could think about was Atsumu’s groggy voice saying, “Thanks for the goodnight kiss, omi-omi.”
“Why did I do that?” Kiyoomi groaned in embarrassment, covering his face with his hands. He’s been getting some occasional questions from Komori about Atsumu due to the fact that Atsumu was asking for him.
When Komori would bring him up, Kiyoomi felt himself malfunction at the thought of him.
Maybe he should apologize for what he did, maybe Atsumu didn’t like it. Kiyoomi sat up. Yes. He should definitely apologize. Then things could go back to normal.
So he washed himself up and made his way over to Atsumu’s dorm. Sakusa knocked on the door before he lost courage and braced himself for Atsumu’s questions.
But he didn’t get that.
Instead he got the sight of a brunette girl wearing Atsumu’s hoodie, her brown eyes scanning over his features confusedly.
He felt his heart drop.
His eyes pinned onto the hoodie she wore, his breath cutting short. An ugly feeling gnawed on his chest. “Who are you?” Sakusa asked quietly, his eyebrows furrowed.
The girl raised an eyebrow as she leaned against the door frame. “I could ask the same thing.” She returned, crossing her arms over her chest with a sly smile on her face, Kiyoomi shook his head, “It doesn’t matter. I’m going. It was uhm, all an accident.”
She frowned, “Excuse me?” “Wrong number, wrong dorm.” Her eyes widened, “Wait, are you-?”
“Hey there!” Osamu appeared next to her all of a sudden, making Kiyoomi startle for a second before responding.
“Hi.” “Were ya’ looking for my brother? He’s right in there, eating. We’re helping Yukie here prepare for her date with her boyfriend, who is not Atsumu.” Kiyoomi blinked rapidly, feeling his skin flush. Why did Osamu have to make it so clear that Atsumu is very single?
“Actually, I was-“ Osamu grinned widely, “Great! You can go inside and make yourself at home! Imma go drop Yukie off so have fun, you two!”
“Wait, my makeup!-“ “you’ll get it later-“ Kiyoomi watched in an baffled manner as they both proceeded to walk away, leaving the door open as well as leaving both him and Atsumu alone.
Kiyoomi stared at Atsumu, who stared back as well but ended up looking upset as he crossed his arms. “Got something to say to me, omi? Why the hell have ya’ been avoiding me?”
The ravenette sighed, he knew it’d be hard to try and explain he’s been avoiding Atsumu, but he barely realized that he was at a sudden loss of what to say.
Atsumu walked up to him, his hazel eyes scanning over his face with scrunched eyebrows. “Well?” Kiyoomi finally let his eyes shut before opening them up in determination.
“I’m sorry I’ve been avoiding you. I didn’t mean for things to go like this, especially since what I did was unexpected. I don’t know how I can make it up to you, but I’m really sorry. I get it if I make you uncomfortable now, but I really am sorry.”
Atsumu frowned, “Sorry for what?” Kiyoomi blinked, confused. “For…kissing your forehead? Without your consent?” Atsumu snorted, finally smirking. “Are ya’ serious? That’s why you’ve been avoiding me? I don’t care about you kissing me! I actually liked it, but not the fact that you could’ve gotten sick while doing so.”
Kiyoomi’s cheeks flushed, eyes widening slightly. He liked it? Atsumu seemed to notice his flustered expression because he grinned sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck. “So I’m, Uh, I’ve been wondering…”
Kiyoomi watched as the bleached blonde in front of him avoided eye contact with him as he spoke shyly. “We’ve been talking for a while, and we’ve been hanging out. What’s a few more dates gonna do?”
“Dates?” Kiyoomi repeated, only more flustered. Atsumu nodded hurriedly, his smile dropping. “I like ya’- there I said it! I’ve been trying to get to ya’ but then ya’ started avoiding me and stuff, so before ya’ do that again-“
“I won’t.” Kiyoomi assured, his eyebrows furrowing. “Yeah, I know! But, I want to- erm- take ya’ out on a date. The two…of us…”
Sakusa couldn’t believe what he was hearing. Miya Atsumu actually wanted to take him out on a date??? Kiyoomi grinned, “Yeah, okay. A date sounds good.”
Atsumu’s eyes widened, “really?” “Yeah-“ “No take backsies!” Atsumu pointed at him accusingly, making Kiyoomi snort in amusement.
“No takebacksies.” Atsumu straightened up, a giddy smile on his face with him seeming to buzz in excitement. “Okay! Does Tuesday sound good?” Kiyoomi nodded, “Yeah.”
“Okay, phew. So I’ll pick ya’ up?” “You live right next to me?” Kiyoomi said with mirth laced in his voice. “That doesn’t matter, I’ll still be a gentleman. Hey, wanna come in and bake with me for the meanwhile?”
“Yeah, sure.”
Atsumu darted his eyes to the side before he reached a hand out next to Kiyoomi’s, held out expectantly for him to take. Kiyoomi awkwardly laced his fingers with Atsumu’s before they started holding hands, making Atsumu’s shoulders sag with relief.
“Let’s go in!”
(A few months later)
Going out with Atsumu was way better than Kiyoomi expected. Actually, it was definitely the best relationship Kiyoomi has ever been in.
Atsumu was such a charming guy to be with and such a considerate one. Kiyoomi must’ve gotten on his bad side since the beginning because that wasn’t how he is now.
To put it simply, he’s such a sweetheart.
But he was still an asshole when he wanted to be.
They sat on Atsumu’s couch with the lights dimmed, watching the last episode of Selena, which predictably had her death in it towards the end.
Kiyoomi’s head was against Atsumu’s chest whilst Atsumu’s arm was hugging him close.
“Feelings..”
“Nothing more than feelings…”
“Trying to forget, my”
“Feelings of love…”
Watching as both of the girls were crying in each other’s arms, Kiyoomi let out ugly sobs of his own the more the voice of young Selena sang.
“Feelings~”
“Woah woah woah, feelings~”
“Woah woah woah, feel you.”
“Again in my, arms~”
“Holy shit omi, I’ve never seen ya’ cry like this.” Atsumu hugged him closer with worry laced in his voice, kissing his forehead after. Kiyoomi couldn’t respond easily, he only let out choked sobs and small wails as he pointed at the tv.
“Yeah, I know it’s sad but it’s not that bad that warrants this much crying.”
Kiyoomi glared at him before his expression faltered and continued crying again.
A.B sat in the recording studio in silence staring off until he decided to play one of Selena’s last recorded songs.
Which was called, “Dreaming of you.”
A.B stared in front of him once again, but whilst hearing the beginning instrumentals of the song and seeing Selena’s reflection off of the see through screen in front of him.
Selena gave him a small smile before she started singing.
“Late at night when all the world, is sleeping, I stay up and think of you~.”
A.B takes off his glasses as his face scrunches up, bowing his head as he starts crying due to his grief of losing his young sister and hearing her voice singing one last time.
It was actually a song that was going to release her new album that she was so excited about. The fact made Kiyoomi only bawl ever more along with A.B.
“And I wish on a star, that somewhere you are, thinking of me too…”
Seeing Marcella cry, Selena’s mother, must’ve been Atsumu’s breaking point because he started crying as well, his hazel eyes shining with renewed tears as Kiyoomi stared up at him.
“Oh my God, she was too young… I can’t even imagine the pain her siblings and parents felt…especially Chris- shit, they wanted kids and a farm-“
Atsumu lowered his head as he continued crying, making Kiyoomi smile crookedly before kissing Atsumu’s cheek in comfort. “I need to start listening to her music.” Atsumu sobbed out, rubbing circles against Kiyoomi’s back.
“See? I knew you’d break.” Kiyoomi snickered out, wiping his eyes. “Yeah well, ya’ like to see me suffer, huh?” “Yes, but I also love to see you baking me cookies. Once this finishes, I want you to make ice cream cookies to cheer us up. I’ll help you this time.”
Atsumu grimaced, “Oh hell no, you can watch, not touch.” Kiyoomi scowled, “I’m not that bad.” Atsumu shook his head, “Yeah you’re not that bad. You’re terrible.”
Kiyoomi huffed and turned his head the other way, sulking childishly. “Oh come on, babe! I was teasing! Come here.”
Atsumu pulled him close enough and turned Kiyoomi’s head with his finger, smirking at him.
“Hey there.”
Kiyoomi raised an eyebrow, “Hey.”
“I love you.” Atsumu whispered softly, stained eyes holding awe. Kiyoomi smiled, “Even with my splotchy eyes and snotty nose?” Atsumu hummed in agreement, “I love you always, no matter what omi.”
With those final words between them, Atsumu leaned in until their lips met.
Leaving them alone with the sound of Selena singing tenderly in the background.
