Total Despair Island

Summary:

"Yo! We're coming at you live from Camp Wawanakwa, somewhere in Muskoka, Ontario! I'm your host, Chris McLean! Dropping season one of the hottest new reality show on television... right now! Here's the deal, twenty-two campers have been chosen to spend three weeks right here at this crummy old summer camp. They'll compete in challenges against each other, then have to face the judgement of their fellow campers. After each challenge, one team will either be safe from elimination, or watch one of their teammates leave: them, Total Drama Island, and the land of the living, for good."

Or if Total Drama Island was a twisted form of entertainment in which twenty-two teenagers are forced to spend three weeks at a summer camp in a remote island where they must compete for life itself until only one of them is left standing.

Chapter 1: Not So Happy Campers - Part One

Chapter Text

"Yo!" A well-dressed middle-aged man in his thirties was seen standing on a dock. He flashed a shiny grin at the camera. "We're coming at you live from Camp Wawanakwa, somewhere in Muskoka, Ontario! I'm your host, Chris McLean! Dropping season one of the hottest new reality show on television... right now!" He walked down the dock. "Here's the deal, twenty-two campers have been chosen to spend three weeks right here at this crummy old summer camp. They'll compete in challenges against each other, then have to face the judgement of their fellow campers. After each challenge, one team will either be safe from elimination, or watch one of their teammates leave: them, Total Drama Island, and the land of the living, for good."

He walked towards a campfire area with eleven tree stumps for seats, a firepit and a barrel with a plate of marshmallows on top. "Their fate will be decided here, at the dramatic campfire ceremonies where at the end of each challenge, all but one camper will receive a marshmallow. In the end, only one will be left standing, and will be rewarded with the ultimate prize: their life! To survive, they'll have to battle black flies, grizzly bears, disgusting camp food, and most importantly, each other. Every moment will be caught on one of the hundreds of cameras situated all over camp. Who will crumble under the pressure? Find out here, right now on... Total... Drama... Island!"

Chris smiled, standing at the end of the dock. "Welcome back to Total Drama Island! Alright, it's time to meet our first camper, Beth!"

A boat arrived at the dock to drop off a short, chubby girl, before quickly taking off. The girl wore a light green vest over a turquoise shirt and pink pants. She also wore glasses, had brown hair in a side ponytail, and braces. She was not the most attractive of girls.

She looked at the camera and smiled nervously. "Hi, Mom! Hi, Dad!" she said with a forced smile on her face, waving at the camera.

"Beth, how does it feel to be here?" Chris asked as if nothing was wrong.

"Um... good, I guess?" Beth said, trying not to let her fear show.

"That's good," Chris said, gesturing to the other end of the dock. "Please wait here while the other contestants arrive."

Beth grabbed her luggage and walked down the dock as the next boat arrived.

"Welcome, DJ!" Chris announced, but was only met by silence. "Uh, DJ? Come on out."

A few seconds went by, when suddenly screams were heard from inside the boat. "No! Please, no! I don't wanna be here! I don't wanna die!"

The driver of the boat then emerged from the boat's doorway, throwing the contestant and his luggage onto the dock before heading back inside.

"No! Come back! Please!" DJ sobbed as he watched the boat speed away.

DJ was tall, athletic and dark-skinned. He had black hair and a full beard. He wore an olive green shirt with an orange 'D' on it, gray cargo shorts and a white beanie.

"DJ!" Chris yelled, ignoring the fact that DJ was sobbing on the ground. "You need to get up, man! Pull yourself together!"

DJ slowly got to his feet. "S-sorry," he sniffled, "it's just that... I really don't wanna be here."

Chris nodded his head in fake sympathy. "I feel you, man. But you need to get to the other side of the dock so I can continue the show, okay?"

DJ nodded, grabbing his luggage and walking over to where Beth was, who hugged him comfortingly as she tried not to cry herself.

"And now, it's time to introduce Gwen!" Chris announced as the next boat pulled over.

Gwen stepped off the boat. Gwen was fairly beautiful, and was obviously goth judging from her appearance. She had short black hair with teal streaks. She wore a black jacket with blue and green sleeves and a black skirt. She stormed past Chris with her luggage in hand, ignoring him completely.

"So, how's it going, Gwen?" Chris asked innocently.

"Screw you," Gwen snarled at Chris before going to the other end of the dock, standing as far away as possible from DJ and Beth.

Loud music could then be heard as the next boat came closer to the dock. On top of it, a tall, blonde boy was dancing. He wore a cowboy hat, a pink button-up shirt, and blue cargo shorts. After the boat came to a stop, he front flipped off the boat and caught his luggage, giving a thumbs up to the driver as the boat sped away. He adjusted his hat and turned to the host, a big grin on his face.

"Geoff! What's up, man?" Chris asked, offering a high-five, which the boy gladly accepted.

"Not much, bro," Geoff said, smiling. "Pretty stoked to be here though!"

Gwen's jaw dropped. "He's either sadistic, crazy, or the most optimistic man on the planet," she said to no one in particular.

"Are you, now?" Chris laughed. "Got any plans while you're here?"

Geoff nodded his head. "One," he answered plainly.

"And that is?" Chris prodded.

"Party!" Geoff bellowed, startling everyone on the dock.

"Geez, man!" Chris yelled, trying to keep his temper in check. He shoved the boy towards the other end of the dock. "Calm down, Geoff. We've got more people to introduce."

Geoff tipped his hat at the host. "Cool." He turned to the other contestants. "Hey, what's up?"

Beth was the only one to respond, waving her hand at him weakly while DJ continued to whimper and Gwen glared at him.

Geoff nodded. "Okay then." He turned to look at the upcoming boat.

Chris could barely contain his excitement as the next boat pulled over to drop off the next contestant. Said contestant was very attractive, having looks that could make her pass off as a supermodel. She had waist-length blonde hair and a blue bandanna on her head. She had a noteworthy hourglass figure, and was also quite well-endowed on the bust scale. She wore a red sleeveless shirt, an orange skirt, and brown boots.

"Lindsay, welcome!" Chris exclaimed, welcoming the new contestant.

"Hi," Lindsay replied, a sad look on her face.

"So, how are you feeling?" Chris asked, grinning.

"Not good," Lindsay said dejectedly as she looked at the host with sad eyes. "I don't wanna be here."

"Well, here you are, so too bad!" Chris said, his grin not once fading.

Lindsay only sighed in response as she rolled her luggage behind her and went to where the other contestants were.

"Attention, everyone!" Chris announced, grinning as the next boat arrived. "This is Heather!"

An Asian-American girl stepped onto the dock. She had straight raven hair that reached all the way down to her tailbone. She wore a brown top that exposed her midsection, and beige cargo shorts that showed off her long legs.

"Hello, everyone," Heather said in a condescending manner.

"So Heather, how does it feel to be here?" Chris questioned, interested in what her response would be.

"Well, everything about this situation sucks, but I should have nothing to worry about," Heather said, sounding awfully sure of herself. "All I have to do is focus on winning this, and we all know how easy that's gonna be!"

Heather made her way to the other end of the dock, the condescension she had just displayed earning her some stares from the other contestants, which she, of course, took notice of.

"What?!" Heather snapped, annoyed by the stares she was receiving.

"Uh..." Beth stuttered, intimidated.

"I'm sorry, I didn't catch your name," Heather added.

"Oh!" Beth said. "My name is-"

"Whatever, I shouldn't bother learning it," Heather interrupted. "After all, you'll be gone within a week."

Everyone gasped.

"Whoa, chill, dude," Geoff said. "No need to harsh the mellow."

Heather scoffed. "Whatever. All I'm saying is that I plan on winning this, so I should have nothing to worry about. Don't worry, I'll be sure to give you all a nice memorial service when I win."

Her harsh words caused DJ to break down, while Beth struggled to hold back her tears. Even Geoff's positive exterior melted slightly. Beside him, Gwen glared at her furiously.

"Screw you," Gwen sneered. "Why don't you shut up, huh?"

"How about you make me, you ugly freak?" Heather hissed.

"How about I do?!" Gwen spat, not about to back down.

"Whoa, hold it!" Geoff stepped in, getting in between the two. "Chill out, dudes! No need to fight."

Beth also stepped up. "Yeah, back off!" she told Heather crossly.

Heather laughed. "Oh, that's rich! The short, ugly, pig girl is telling me to back off. Are you sure you're not just repeating what every boy in your high school said to you during prom season?"

Beth shrunk back as if struck, taking a few steps backwards.

"Hey, what was that?!" DJ asked angrily, forgetting his sadness for a moment.

By now, Gwen was seething with fury, while Geoff gave Heather a slight glare, a sharp contrast to the cheery expression he had worn on his face since his arrival. Even Lindsay, who had been quiet for the whole ordeal, did not look very pleased with Heather's behavior.

Seeing that she was about to get ganged up on, Heather decided that the smartest thing to do was retreat. She slumped down and sighed. "Wow, uh, I'm sorry, ponytail girl. That was totally uncalled for. I guess I'm a little high-strung. I mean, who wouldn't be, right?"

Beth turned away from Heather. "It's Beth," she mumbled. "And whatever, I understand."

Heather, still receiving angry looks from the other contestants, reached into her back pocket, took out a nail file and began to file her nails.

Meanwhile, Chris looked very excited at the arrival of the next contestant.

"Everyone, this is Duncan!" the host gleefully exclaimed,

Duncan jumped off the boat, and gave the host a glare. His presence alone made most of the other contestants shiver. Duncan had cropped black hair with a green mohawk. He had several piercings on his face and a black spiked choker on his neck. He wore a long-sleeved black shirt with cream-colored sleeves and a picture of a skull on it, and navy blue cargo shorts.

"Hey Duncan, what's the matter?" Chris asked, not threatened by the glare he was receiving.

"I'll tell you what's the matter," Duncan snarled as he began to advance towards the host.

"Now, I'll have you know," Chris started, lifting up his shirt a little bit to show the holster of a handgun, "violence against the host is prohibited."

Duncan stopped in his tracks upon seeing the gun, its holster gleaming in the sunlight. He grumbled under his breath, before simply walking to the end of the dock, taking his luggage with him.

The sound of the next boat got louder as it came closer to the dock. However, there was no one to be seen on the boat itself. Instead, the next contestant was being pulled behind the boat, his feet planted on two water skis. He had brown hair, wore a red tracksuit and a red headband. When the boat skidded to a halt, the contestant was barely able to stop himself from slamming into the back of the boat. He climbed up the boat, took his luggage from the driver and stepped onto the dock.

"This is Tyler, everyone!" Chris announced.

"Hey," Tyler said nervously, eyeing his fellow contestants.

"Man, that was wicked!" Geoff complimented his water skiing.

"Thanks," Tyler said as he approached them. Seeing that his fellow contestants did not hate one another due to their situation like he was expecting, Tyler felt himself relax slightly. "Sports help me relax when I'm stressed, and right now, I'm feeling super stressed."

"I feel you on that," DJ said.

Everyone else either nodded or hummed in agreement, or chose not to respond.

"Alright, as great as this is," Chris interrupted, "it's time to introduce our next contestant."

Everyone watched as a lanky ginger with glasses stepped off the next boat. He wore a blue shirt with long red sleeves and a picture of a hamburger on it, and green pants.

"Good day, Harold!" Chris exclaimed. "How are you feeling?"

"Pretty crappy," Harold sighed. "I'm probably gonna die somewhere in the next three weeks, so that's a bummer."

"You sound like you've given up," Tyler pointed out.

Harold shook his head. "No, it's just statistics. 1/22 is not a good statistic."

Beth slumped down. "Well, that's depressing."

"Well Harold, thanks for your input, but we still have half the cast to introduce, so move over," Chris said, prodding the boy towards the people he would be competing against.

Another boat arrived on the dock just as the boat that dropped Harold off left.

"Our next contestant is Trent!" Chris announced as the next contestant stepped off the boat.

Trent was a rather handsome fellow. He had shaggy black hair and wore a long-sleeved green shirt with a black handprint on it and camouflage sleeves, as well as black jeans. He had a guitar strapped on his back, and in his hands were the rest of his suitcases. He seemed like a pretty relaxed guy, though it was clear that he was forcing the calm look on his face.

"So Trent, how are things going for you?" Chris asked, laughing.

"What do you think?" Trent replied with a glare, which seemed to disappear as he approached his fellow contestants. He stopped in front of them, locking eyes with Gwen. He gave her a weak smile.

"Hey, I'm Trent," Trent introduced himself, setting one of his suitcases down on the ground so he could reach his hand out for a handshake. Looking up from his outstretched hand, Gwen merely gave him a glare and grumbled, turning away from him. Taken aback by her response, he dropped his hand, picked up his suitcase and went to stand away from her.

"Gwen."

"Huh?"

Trent looked beside him to find Gwen looking back at him, her glare still plastered on her face.

"My name is Gwen," Gwen repeated. Trent gave her another smile, and Gwen returned his gaze for a few seconds before she turned away, opting to focus her gaze on the ground instead.

"Well, as touching as this is," Chris rolled his eyes at the exchange between the two, "I see another boat coming so everyone pay attention!"

The next boat arrived to drop off the next contestant. A girl exited the boat and stepped onto the dock, fear written all over her face. She had long blonde hair in a ponytail. She wore a light blue sweatshirt, and blue denim shorts.

"Alright, Bridgette is here!" Chris announced.

"H-hi," Bridgette stuttered, looking and sounding like she was on the verge of tears.

"What's with that look?" Chris asked with a grin. "Aren't you excited to be here?"

"Of course I'm not!" Bridgette said as her eyes began to water.

Chris shrugged. "Well, you're here, so you might as well get over it."

Seeing that she was in distress, Geoff immediately went to comfort her.

"Hey, don't cry," Geoff said gently, wrapping an arm around her while using his other hand to lift up her luggage. He guided her past Chris, much to his annoyance, and over to the friendlier people of the group, Beth, DJ, Lindsay, Tyler and Trent.

"I'm Geoff," he told her.

"I'm Bridgette," she choked out as she attempted to compose herself.

Geoff smiled at her. "Nice to meet you, Bridgette." He could not think of anything comforting to say, so he decided to just keep his arm around her.

"Well, isn't that touching?" said a sarcastic voice from behind Chris, who quickly turned around.

"Noah, what the heck?!" Chris yelled at the contestant in front of him. "You weren't even introduced!"

Noah had dark skin and dark brown hair. He wore three layers of clothing, a white long-sleeved shirt, a blue button-up shirt, and a red vest. He also wore gray cargo shorts.

"Well, excuse me," Noah said sarcastically, unfazed by Chris' tone. He dragged himself over to where the rest of the contestants were, bringing his luggage along with him. Chris glared at his retreating back until the sound of a horn honking could be heard, signifying the arrival of the next boat.

"Time for our next contestant!" Chris announced. "Leshawna!"

Leshawna walked out of her boat. She was dark-skinned, had black hair in a ponytail and a mole on her right cheek. She was leaning more on the plus size, and had a very boisterous set of breasts and buttocks. She wore a tan top with four kumquats on it, and blue denim pants.

"Look, y'all," she said right off the bat. "I'm all for being friendly, but I'll let you know that I plan on winning this, so don't take it personally, alright?"

Duncan nodded, looking at Leshawna with slight respect. "Sure. Well said, sister."

Leshawna chuckled. "Don't test me, white boy." She turned towards DJ. "Hey brother, what's up?"

"Not much," he squeaked. "How about you?"

Leshawna shrugged. "Not much. Just trying not to let this situation get to me."

Noah rolled his eyes. "So deep."

"That's it, you need to clam it," Geoff told him, frowning as Bridgette started to quiver again.

"Settle down, settle down," Chris scolded. "We still have more contestants to introduce."

The contestants all watched as the next boat arrived.

"Oh my gosh!" came a voice from inside the boat. "Why do we have to be here, Sadie?!"

"I don't know!" another voice sobbed. "It's so unfair, Katie!"

"Katie! Sadie! Come on out!" Chris told them.

Two girls came out of the boat. They both had short black hair pulled up into pigtails. They were also wearing the same clothing, which consisted of black and white striped crop tops and pink shorts. However, Katie was skinny and had tanned skin, while Sadie was fat and had light skin.

"So, how stoked are you guys to be here?" Chris asked sadistically.

"Not stoked at all!" Katie cried as she clutched her friend. "At the end of this at least one of us will be dead! I don't wanna lose my BFFFL!"

"I don't wanna lose my BFFFL either!" Sadie sobbed.

"More like both of you," Heather scoffed, rolling her eyes at them. Duncan smirked, nodding in agreement.

"Yeah, yeah. We get it!" Chris yelled, losing his patience. "We get that you're both super devastated to be here. Now suck it up and get moving so we can move on with the show!"

Katie and Sadie walked to the end of the dock in each other's arms, both still wailing. Everyone stepped away from them.

"Can you have them thrown into the water or something?" Heather asked, irritation clear in her voice.

Chris laughed. "Tempting, isn't it? But no, you'll have to save the physical violence until after everyone has been introduced. Speaking of introductions, here is our next contestant, Ezekiel!"

A scraggly-looking young man stepped off the next boat. He had long brown hair and a small soul patch. He wore a turquoise toque on his head, a greenish-gray sweatshirt, and pants that matched his hat. Most noticeable was the cross he wore around his neck.

"Hello," Ezekiel greeted solemnly, looking at everyone.

"What's up, Zeke? How does it feel to be in the real world?" Chris said mockingly.

"Not that different, eh?" Ezekiel said, touching his cross. "I just feel sorry for the 21 people who will meet their deaths all too early."

"Oh great," Duncan groaned. "You're not gonna try to convert us all, are you?"

"Of course not, I'm not that kind of person," Ezekiel replied. "I respect you for who you are, regardless of your religion. That being said, though, I'm not gonna stop my own practice for fear of offending anybody."

Harold nodded at him. "Fair enough."

Ezekiel walked down the dock as the next boat came up.

"Cody!" Chris exclaimed. "How are you, man?"

Cody had brown hair parted in the middle, and a gap in his teeth. He wore a long-sleeved tan shirt, a beige shirt over it with a red and green stripe, and blue cargo pants.

"I don't know," Cody said, looking at the ground as he rubbed the back of his neck. "I don't really know how to feel right now. I mean, I've always wanted to go to summer camp, but I didn't think this was how my first summer camp experience was gonna go."

"Well, you better get a move on and stand right over there," Chris said, motioning to the end of the dock. Cody picked up his luggage and walked towards the rest of the contestants.

"Alright, it's time to introduce our next contestant," Chris said as the next boat dropped the next contestant off. "Please welcome, Eva!"

The icy glare she had on her face pierced through everyone's nerves, even Duncan's and Heather's. Eva was a very muscular girl. She had short black hair pulled up into a ponytail, a unibrow, and a mole on her left cheek. She wore a matching pair of blue shirt and shorts.

"Eva, how does it feel to be here?" Chris asked.

"Bite me," Eva growled, shoving past the host. She stormed towards the other contestants, who all gave her cautious looks. "What are you looking at?!" she snapped at them.

"Your ugly face, you troll," Heather said, not bothering to look at her.

"I'll crack your head open," Eva threatened.

Heather turned to her with an eyebrow raised. "What did you just say?"

"I said I'll crack your head open!" Eva roared at her.

"Whoa, whoa, whoa!" Chris quickly interrupted. "Keep it to yourselves, ladies! We've still got a few more people to introduce."

Eva and Heather sent each other a quick glare before turning their attention to the upcoming boat.

"Woohoo!" A fat boy with blonde hair came sprinting out onto the dock. He wore a white shirt with a blue maple leaf on it and green shorts. "Hey all!"

"Owen! Welcome!" Chris exclaimed, almost as excited as Owen was.

Owen grinned. "Hey, Chris! I'm so psyched to be here!"

"Uh, you do know that you're on Total Drama Island, right?" Duncan asked.

Owen nodded. "Uh-huh."

"And that all but one of us are gonna die?" Gwen added.

Owen nodded again. "Uh-huh, uh-huh."

"So you mean you're actually excited about this?" Leshawna asked.

"Yeah!" Owen cheered, dancing in place. "Woohoo!"

"Good, that means he'll die before I do, and I'll be that much closer to winning my life back," Heather said coldly.

Owen either did not hear her or chose to ignore her, too busy striking up a conversation with Geoff, the only one with any optimism to match his.

"Well, as amusing as some of the campers are," Chris laughed, "we still have our next contestant arriving."

The next boat screeched to a halt and the next contestant stepped off of it. She had shoulder-length brown hair, mocha skin, and freckles under her cheeks. She wore a white button-up shirt, a gray shirt over it, and green leggings. As she bent over to pick up her luggage, which the driver had left at the end of the dock, she caught the attention of one particular contestant.

"Why are most of the girls babes, you pervert?" Duncan whispered, glaring at the host.

Chris only smiled and winked at him. "Everybody, this is Courtney!" he announced.

Courtney smiled at the other contestants. "Hi, everyone. It's very nice to meet you all."

A few greetings were sent back her way, but most people stayed silent.

"Expected," Courtney said. "Of course, I understand the hostility, given our circumstances."

"You got that right," Duncan commented, smirking and wiggling his eyebrows at her. Courtney rolled her eyes at his comment, but went to stand next to him.

"The name's Duncan," he introduced himself.

"Courtney," she said in response.

"So, how are things going for you?" Duncan asked. "You seem very calm about all this. Something tells me you think you can win this all no problem."

"Actually, that's not true," Courtney told him. "I believe I can do my best to win. We'll see how far that gets me."

"Alright, moving on," Chris yawned. "Here, we have our next contestant."

Gasps were heard as the next contestant appeared on the next boat, some of the sadness evaporating momentarily.

"Did I get eliminated and go to Heaven?" Owen asked.

"Hey all," the newcomer greeted as he stepped onto the dock. He had tanned skin, a muscular build, long black hair, and well-defined facial features. He wore a thin green shirt and tight blue pants, which did nothing but accentuate his physique. "My name is Justin."

Katie and Sadie actually stopped crying, their devastation disappearing upon seeing such a glorious figure.

Katie felt her mouth water as she looked him up and down, swallowing nervously. "Oh my gosh, you're like, really hot."

Sadie blinked, suddenly remembering how to speak. "Yeah, you're like, the hottest guy I've ever seen."

Justin laughed, a sound that felt like music to their ears. "Why, thank you," he said, winking at them mischievously. "I must say, you two aren't very bad yourselves."

At this point, it was a miracle that neither of the two passed out on the spot.

All the girls, plus Owen, gushed and swooned over Justin as he integrated himself into the crowd. Some of the boys, however, were wary at the newcomer's arrival.

"He could be a serious threat," Trent whispered to the person closest to him, which happened to be Duncan.

"Or not," Duncan scoffed. "He'd probably kill himself if he broke a nail or something, so I wouldn't be that worried. Those arrogant models always flip over something one way or another. I'd be surprised if he made it past the first five eliminations."

Trent opened his mouth to speak again, but was interrupted.

"Ahem!" Chris cleared his throat. "And last but not the least, we have Izzy!"

The boat came to a stop as the last contestant came out cartwheeling onto the dock.

"What's up?!" Izzy shouted as she landed on her feet.

Izzy had frizzy red hair. She wore a light green top that exposed her midriff and a skirt of a lighter shade of green. She looked as if she was not right in the head, and the psychotic grin she had on her face did not help at all.

"This is gonna be so much fun!" Izzy said, sounding very excited.

"It is?" Chris asked in confusion.

"Yeah!" Izzy exclaimed. "I mean, people are gonna to die and stuff! How cool is that?!"

Everyone gasped in shock, except for Eva, who raised an eyebrow at her.

"Izzy smiled at the crowd of campers, wondering which one of them would die first," Izzy said, voicing her thoughts.

"Can someone shut that freak up?" Heather asked, more out of fear than annoyance.

"For once, I agree with her," Gwen said. "She's freaking me out."

"You're harshing the mellow!" Geoff yelled, losing his cool as he tightened his grip around Bridgette, who was still shaking.

Soon enough, nearly everyone was freaking out, with only a few keeping calm.

"People! Please settle down!" Chris shouted over the chaos, though his words were left unheard.

The contestants continued to talk over one another.

"Everyone, shut the hell up!" Eva screamed, causing everyone to freeze.

"Thank you, Eva," Chris said, smirking.

Everyone turned their attention to the host, none of them saying a word.

"Okay," Chris clapped his hands, "now that we're all here, we can move on. But first, we need a group picture for the promos. If everyone could just line up and look all friendly."

After a few cursing, shoving, and sobbing moments later, everyone was in a decent pose.

"Okay!" Chris said, pulling out a camera as he stood on a boat. "Three, two, one! Everyone say, 'Wawanakwa!'"

No one said anything, not even Geoff and Owen.

Chris frowned, snapping the photo. "Come on, guys. Don't ruin the fun."

"Bite me," Eva snarled.

"Can you just tell us where we need to go next?" DJ whimpered.

Chris sighed as he got off the boat. "Fine. Follow me."

He led them past the Main Lodge, towards the campfire area.

"Welcome to Camp Wawanakwa," Chris announced. "This will be your home for the next three weeks. The people around you will be your companions, your competition, and maybe even your friends. Whoever manages to stay on Total Drama Island the longest without getting voted off will win their life back!"

The campers listened carefully to the host's explanations.

"This, right here, is the elimination area," Chris continued. "At every campfire ceremony, this is where the losing team will have to vote someone off, and yes, as you all have been so keen to point out, the person who will be voted out will be, so to speak, voted off life. With that said, over the course of the next three weeks, you’ll all have to watch your teammates die one by one until only one of you is left standing. Understood?"

Katie and Sadie, who both had just stopped wailing, started up again, much to the annoyance of the other campers.

"Now," Chris said, just as annoyed as everyone else, "it's time to announce the teams."

This immediately got everyone's attention. All of them were curious on who their possible executioners would be.

"If I call your name out, go stand over there," Chris instructed, pointing to the right. "Gwen, Trent, Heather, Cody, Lindsay, Beth, Katie, Owen, Leshawna, Justin, and Noah." The eleven aforementioned campers got up and walked to where Chris told them to, glancing at one another.

"From this moment on, you are officially known as... the Screaming Gophers!" he announced, tossing a green banner to Owen. He unrolled it to show the picture of a gopher that was... well, screaming.

"Yeah!" Owen cheered. "Woohoo!"

"No, please!" Katie bawled. "I have to be on the same team as Sadie!"

"No, Katie!" Sadie said, who was surprisingly not bawling like her best friend. "It's good that we're on opposite teams. We need to focus on winning this. Who knows? Maybe when the Final Two comes, we can find a way to tie or something so we can both live!"

At her friend's reassurance, Katie stopped crying, wiping her tears away. "Okay, it's a deal," Katie said to her best friend. She then turned to face her teammates with the most threatening look she could muster. "You hear that? We're gonna be the Final Two. You better watch out!"

All the campers were impressed in one way or another by the sudden resolve coming from two of the probable weakest competitors.

"The rest of you over here," Chris continued. "Geoff, Bridgette, DJ, Tyler, Sadie, Izzy, Courtney, Ezekiel, Duncan, Eva, and Harold." The remaining eleven campers stood to the left.

"You guys will officially be known as... the Killer Bass!" he announced, tossing a red banner to Harold, who unrolled it to show the picture of an angry-looking bass.

"Nice," Harold said, studying the craftsmanship of the banner.

"Well folks, looks like this wraps up the first part of the first episode of Total Drama Island," Chris announced, turning to the camera with a smile. "Who will grow to like each other? Who will grow to hate each other? Find out next time on Total... Drama... Island!"

Screaming Gophers: Beth, Cody, Gwen, Heather, Justin, Katie, Leshawna, Lindsay, Noah, Owen, Trent

Killer Bass: Bridgette, Courtney, DJ, Duncan, Eva, Ezekiel, Geoff, Harold, Izzy, Sadie, Tyler
