Chapter Text
He wasn’t hungry. No, not anymore than he usually was.
But he’d gone for WEEKS without anything as much as a high-five. He’d been going without sleep for weeks too, running on coffee -and a pinch of hope- alone.
Anyways. Sonic wasn’t usually the type of person to initiate a physical gesture. (Like hugs, y’know. Pretty Awkward.)
But that being said, he did not hate touching and being touched, at all. In fact, it was very much welcome whenever needed.
(Like now.)
But, lets say if he was REALLY craving a hug or something, he wasn’t actually going to tell anyone. He wasn’t the only person who went through this, so he didn’t want to disturb anyone else’s rest.
So then why was he standing in front of his brothers doorstep? What was he even planning on doing. ‘Oh hey Tails I just came here to ask you for a hug, because I really missed being able to touch you’. What. That just sounded weird.
But he really didn’t want to pretend that everything was okay. Well, it was but like, HE wasn’t. Wait no, he was. But. Everything was okay. This was stupid anyways.
He was supposed to be the cool one.
The one who didn’t beg for physical contact.
Okay, enough stupid talk. This was such a waste of time. He turned around and started walking down the steps. Besides. They were bros. Bros didn’t do that kind of thing.
(In reality, they did quite a bit. After a long mission involving injuries amongst others, the first thing they did when reuniting was always. A tight, safe, loving hug.)
“Sonic?”
Shit. He was snapped out of his contradicting thoughts when he heard his name.
Sonic turned around to see Tails, standing by the doorway, a worried look in his eyes.
“Oh. Hey, Tails.”
Smooth.
“What are you doing here?”
“Uh. Oh, nothin’ special. Just, ah... the usual! Yeah.” Shit. Think, think!
“You wouldn’t happen to have any duck tape, would you, bud?”
What. Was that.
Who runs all the way to someones house just for duct tape? (Well, he had. On numerous occasions so technically, it was the usual. Wow, what a great liar he was.)
“Uh... okay? Anything else? You’re all okay?”
Came the question. Tails, always looking out for everyone. God, he was amazing.
“Yeah.” A sigh. “Thanks, buddy.”
Okay. Tails went inside to get the tape. Quick. You can do this, Sonic. Just a little pat, on his head. Yeah. Then you can go. Everything will be fine. Yup. Okay.
“Alright, here you go, Sonic.” Tails said as he came back through the door frame, holding a roll of duct tape in his hand. “Are you sure you don’t need anything else? Do you want to come inside?”
Actually? He did.
“That. That would be nice, Tails. Thanks.”
So thats how he got there. Tails invited him inside for a drink, and “A talk! If you ever want to talk, I’m here”. Uh. No thanks for now.
Anyways.
It was rather nice, actually. He’d missed hanging out with Tails. They played video games, and just hung out. Like old times.
He was still itching for something, though. They did what they usually did, but for some reason Tails just seemed farther on the couch today. Why did they have to sit on opposite ends? Or were they right beside each other?
It didn’t matter. He just couldn’t even brush shoulders with him or anything. It bothered him so much. What was a little noogie or anything? He new Tails. He wouldn’t get mad. He always welcomed the contact.
Ugh. Was he scared or what?
_____
He had to leave, sooner or later. And yes. He had left without having touched his brother a single damn time. Jeez, what a loser he was.
It was nice though, he’ll admit. He didn’t know the last time when he’d relaxed like that. (The roll of duct tape was left forgotten on the kitchen counter.)
Alright. So, he was a little bit scared to touch people. It’d go away sooner or later, right?
(He was always just so damn scared to initiate these gestures. Why couldn’t he just place his ego off to the side, for once?)
Alright.
So, now what. He was walking alone, on the sidewalk with no idea where to next, again. Okay. Was there anyone else he could try going to?
Ah.
Okay. So, Knuckles isn't exactly the biggest on physical contact, but if there was something they could do, it was sparring.
Sure, that'll do.
That's something, at least.
