"Are you sure about this, Luz?” Amity said, looking at the weird looking portal door in front of her
The human at her side gave her a reassuring smile
“Of course! We might not be able to cross to the other side, but at least I can show you around a little! You can even meet Mami!”
Amity gulped. She really wasn’t sure about this plan, especially not after the literal titanic effort Eda, King and her had to do to get the truth of what happened in the other side from Luz
“But… She might not like me” the young Blight said “I might give her the wrong impression”
“Relax Boots” Eda interrupted her, slapping her back with too much force “Everything we’ll be fine”
“Stop calling me that” Amity complained
“No can do, once you get a nickname from me, it sticks with you forever, like a leech!”
The witchling shuddered at the thought until she felt Eda was pushing her through the portal
“Now go and don’t worry, as soon as we see something going wrong, we’ll pull you back”
“Can you do that to both of us at the same time?” Luz questioned, checking hers and Amity’s ropes were tightly adjusted
“Don’t worry” Hooty explained “I have more strength on my side this time”
Amity raised an eyebrow at that and Hooty smiled
“I’ll have the power of your looooooveeee now”
“Annnnnd you made it weird” Luz claimed, pushing Amity away “Let’s go right now!”
Before she could protest, a wave of darkness swallowed Amity
She didn’t like this place. Luz told her about the space between worlds, but hearing about it and feeling it were two different things. It felt dark, cold and asphyxiating. For a moment she thought she was going to drown in the weird black goo, until she managed to float up
The new place was equally as weird, but at least she wasn’t wet anymore
Sensing her distress, Luz softly touched her hand. Amity smiled and grasped it tightly
“Don’t worry” the human whispered “You’re okay here and besides I won’t let anything happen to my awesome girlfriend”
Amity blushed at the comment. Yes, it was real; she was Luz Noceda’s girlfriend!
“Especially not when she’s about to meet” her girlfriend made a pause for dramatic effect before adding “Camila Noceda”
Amity noticed how the strange space seemed to react to Luz’s mention of her mother’s name, a cube emerged from below and started to float between the two of them, Luz instructed her to grab onto it and not let go or else she wouldn’t be able to see the other side
Her first peek of the human realm was… uneventful, to say the least
She recognized Luz’s Mom from some pictures, but she could never have imagined that their first encounter would involve watching her asleep on a couch and snoring really loudly
“She must be exhausted” Luz said with a giggle “Sometimes she has to do a surgery and she always ends up like this”
Despite the fact Luz was talking in a high-pitch excited voice, Camila didn’t even move
“We should let her sleep” Luz said
“I thought you really wanted to see her” Amity replied “I want to meet her to, you know”
“I’m not waking her up, she’s tired Amity, besides, we can… Oh, that’s it!”
“Huh?”
“We can see Vee and she can tell her all about us!”
“Right… The basilisk” Amity muttered
Despite how constantly Luz said her impersonator wasn’t evil, Amity couldn’t shake the thought of her head, her only experience with a basilisk was one of her worst moments of her life and…
“She’s nice, I swear” Luz said, interrupting her thoughts “Shows us Vee, please”
Another cube started to float between the girls and Amity took a deep breath, bracing herself
For a moment, none of them was able to see anything, only hear a voice
“Would you stop that?”
“That’s Vee!” Luz claimed excitedly
“Oh, but I thought you liked this!”
Amity couldn’t help but notice how Luz’s whole body went rigid in an instant. If she recognized the other voice, she didn’t tell
“You know Mom is sleeping downstairs, right?”
“Yeah, but I’ll take the risk”
Giggle after giggle echoed through the realm between dimensions, until the image became clearer. Vee was lying on the floor, her head rested on the knees of another girl. Amity was surprised to see how identical the replica was, except for the two oversized, multicolored ears coming from both sides of her head
Ears that the other girl, a human with blond and pink hair, was too busy tickling, smiling more and more as Vee exploded with laughter and tried to push her away, with no results
The basilisk tried to get rid of her attacker again, grabbing the fabric of her cheerleader outfit and pulling it over and over again, but the blonde girl playfully smacked her hand away, tickling Vee once more
“Que signifca esto?” Luz suddenly shouted, making the other two girls startle and separate from each other
“Oh, hey Luz” Vee said and Amity realized she didn’t sound quite like her Luz
“What are you doing with… her?” the latina insisted, pointing at the other girl in the room
“Clara and I were just having some… fun” Vee explained, starting to fidget nervously
Noticing the white spots appearing on her skin, Clara rushed to the nightstand, opened a drawer and retrieved a Hexes Hold’ Em card, giving it to her friend and softly rubbing her hand, she looked at Luz and said
“Would you please calm down, Luz? You’re making her nervous…”
“You’re not surprised to see her in a mirror?” Vee whispered, taking a tiny bite of the card
“After meeting you, I don’t think anything can surprise me anymore” Clara said back, scratching her cheek
But the human on the other side of the mirror didn’t bulge
“She should feel nervous around you, Clara, does she even know all the things you did to me?”
Speaking for the first time, Amity closed a fist and hissed
“What did you do to my Luz?”
Clara gulped and she swore she could see the other girl’s (whoever she was) eyes turning a deep shade of purple all of a sudden
“She’s a bully, a bully in whom you can’t trust, Vee” Luz explained, directing her eyes to the basilisk, who quickly looked away
“Excuse me?” Amity interjected “I used to be a bully”
“Yeah, but you changed, sweetie and I’m so glad for that”
Amity’s mind drifted away at the mention of the nickname and she stayed quiet
“So has Clara” Vee interjected, blushing when she took the other girl’s hand “She apologized for what she did to you”
“She did?” the human asked, her shoulders lowering
“I did” the blond confirmed “And Vee can tell you I was, I am, being sincere”
The basilisk nodded so many times that Luz finally relaxed, at her side. Amity took the time to look around her girlfriend’s room, smiling every time she saw a piece of Azura merch here or there
“Um… By the way, who’s pointy ears over there?” Clara asked
“Don’t call me that” Amity said, crossing her arms, Luz tickled one of her hands and said
“This is Amity, my girlfriend”
The otherworldly screech that came out of Vee’s mouth was enough to make Amity and Clara flinch at the same time.
“Are you two already dating?” The basilisk asked happily
Amity blushed deeply before replying
“We were about to but… All of this happened and I understood Luz couldn’t think about dating without talking some things with her mother first”
“Which was the point of coming here” the human completed “But… Mom’s asleep, so, we’ll have to find another time to talk about…”
“Oh, the whole promise thing” Clara said and Luz nodded “Vee told me about it”
And then all hell broke loose when Vee started to assault her doppelganger with a barrage of question about her relationship, Luz answering them equally as fast
“It might take her a while to climb down from that energy burst” Clara said, her eyes fixing on the too familiar figure of Amity Blight
“Yeah, I get what you’re saying” the witch commented with a nod
Clara got up and approached the mirror, Amity stared at her and both of them realized they were thinking the same thing
“You look like me” they both said at unison, their hands mimicking their movements in both sides of the mirror
“This is weird” Amity said and her human counterpart nodded
“Not as weird as having a basilisk as your best friend, I guess”
“Huh, you should see how’s living in the Boiling Isles with an hyperactive human” Amity countered
“I knew Luz before you, remember?” Clara said, looking at the way the human and the basilisk kept talking about the witch, ignoring both of them completely
Something snapped in Amity’s mind at that moment, something that made her forget at how Clara looked like herself; she started questioning if Luz liked her because she looked like Clara…
Did she like that blonde and pink haired human when she lived back there?
Did Luz choose Amity because it reminded her of Clara?
But above else, was Clara one of the reasons why Luz didn’t really want to return to the human realm?
“What’s your game?” Amity finally said, crossing her arms
Clara didn’t respond, so the witch insisted
“With Vee, what do you pretend? Break her heart like you did with Luz?”
“What? I didn’t…”
“Don’t you even try to deny that. Luz told me how much she suffered when she was going to her human school, were you one of the…”
Realizing she wasn’t having visions and that Amity’s eyes were turning purple, Clara interrupted her
“I used to make fun of her for the things she liked, yeah”
“Do you even know how hard that was for her?” Amity complained “She was so affected that she became obsessed with not being cheesy or ridiculous when she declared to me”
“I…”
“Oh, you didn’t know?” Amity cut her off “Or you didn’t mean to? Don’t try to make those types of excuses…”
“It was peer pressure, all right?” Clara raised her voice, making the young Blight flinch “Everyone was making fun of her and I didn’t want to be left out, so I joined! It was stupid, and I’m sorry, and I’m sure I’d still be doing that if it wasn’t…”
She didn’t finish her sentence, but Amity raised an eyebrow, prompting her to continue
“If it wasn’t for Vee” she finally said, looking down “Even though I hurt Luz so much and she knew about it, she truly wanted to be my friend, she wanted to give me a second chance and I am so thankful for that”
Amity’s eyes softened at the confession
“I get the feeling… Luz had the same effect on me…”
“So no” Clara insisted “I don’t want to break Vee’s heart, all I want is for her to trust me and to… Well, to see if we can be something, you don’t need all the details”
“Very well, but I’ll keep my eye on you”
“How? You literally live in another world!” Clara said, genuinely laughing
“Luz and I will find a way to get there and then” she added secretively “She’s taking me on a date in the human realm”
“Wow” Clara smiled, noticing the way Amity’s cheek blushed “You’re a lucky girl for having her, even though lilac hair doesn’t suit you at all”
Amity frowned, if the human wanted a competition, she was definitely gonna get one
“Right, cause lilac is much worse that whatever ice-cream pastiche you have there on your head”
Clara pretended to gasp, before both girls broke out laughing. At her very core, Amity was still a Blight, so she thought she should get the last jab
“Also, we might look similar, except for the outfit; I used to be a star player, not a cheerleader”
“Oh this?” Clara replied, ignoring the bragging “I’m not a cheerleader anymore; I just kept the outfit ‘cause… Vee likes it”
Even though she whispered the last part, the basilisk forgot her own conversation and gasped
“You’re not a cheerleader anymore?”
“How could I?” Clara said, smiling “With all those idiots in the team making fun of you and your cabin buddies”
“But you were so proud of your achievements…” Vee muttered, fidgeting again
“There are more important things than that, trust me” Clara said quickly, taking the basilisk’s hand
Meanwhile, Luz and Amity exchanged a knowing glance, it took the girls on the other side a moment to realize they were being watched and they let go, turning around and blushing profusely
The lightness was cut when Luz frowned and looked at her girlfriend, crossing her arms
“Why were you thinking I replaced Clara with you?” the human said
Amity stuttered, looking for an exit. Of course, there was none, so she deflected her gaze and asked:
“How did you know?”
“I saw it on your face; you seemed so insecure when Clara said you looked like her. You know I would never do something like that, right?”
Amity didn’t respond, so Luz insisted
“I like you, Amity Blight”
The young witch smiled and wiped a tear away, until Luz decided to joke
“Now’s the time when you have to say you like me and not my doppelganger over there”
Amity rolled her eyes and hugged her girlfriend
“Don’t even joke about that. You know we are made for each other, I’ve only got eyes for you, Luz Noceda”
The girls at the other side chuckled when they saw how red Luz’s face became
“Besides, Vee’s cuter than you” Clara intervened, not realizing what she said
But the basilisk did and hid her face in her hands, trying her best not to faint right there, her ears flopping around excitedly
“She’s an exact copy of me, Clara!” Luz pouted
“Still, she’s cuter than… you” the other human said, swallowing hard when she heard her own words
Luz wanted to make fun about how she could see both girls sweating from the other side of the mirror, but something started to pull her and Amity up
“Well, time’s up” Amity said “Guess I’ll see you next time”
“And you better take care of my little sister, Clara!” Luz shouted
“Will do!”
“I’m not little!” Vee screamed
The last thing Luz and Amity heard before going back to the Owl House was the voice of the basilisk
“Can you believe it? They are girlfriends!” Vee said
“About that word, Vee… Can I ask you something?” Clara muttered
“So…” Eda questioned, looking how the portal disintegrated and both girls landed safely at her feet
“So what?” Luz asked, her head still spinning from the experience
“How it went?” the Owl Lady insisted
“Did you talk with your mother? Did you explain to her why you can’t keep your promise?” King intervened
Luz slapped her own face
“I totally forgot about Mom! She could have woken up while we were there!”
“What were you two doing that you literally forgot about your own mother?” Eda said
When Luz remained silent, King sighed
“Please don’t tell me you two were smooching all this time”
“King!” Luz complained
“Is more complicated than that, actually” Amity said
“I knew it was a bad idea letting you go with her, Boots. You two can’t even function around each other” Eda said, rubbing her temple
None of the girls argued against that
