Chapter 1: Runaway Buccaneer

Chapter Text

The early morning breeze spread the smell of the sea onto the already busy port filled with all different kinds of people around a diverse arrange of ships. Every day the people came and went at this merchant town in the Mediterranean Sea, it was a known place to stop for many travellers. All around the spot, it was easy to find sellers and buyers for about almost anything one could ever want. At the same time, there was any kind of entertainment one could think of spending goods on, but one cannot be foolish or one will be taken advantadge of. Ships here and there are getting prepared to leave, life on the seas is an ever changing one.

"Let me accompany you." A young man with long black hair and matching black eyes carrying a bag approached the crew of one of this many ships.

"Get lost, Extra." A blond guy, who appeared to be the one in charge, answered to his request.

"Captain, please," The man begged, "I will not be a burden."

"What you got to offer, pretty boy?" Asked another crewmate with bright yellow hair.

"I have a treasure map." He offered.

"Good enough for me." The crewmate said towards the Captain.

"Shut the fuck up, Dunce Face." He told him. "What kind of treasure?"

"Something called 'The Island Of Infinite Abundance'." Answered the black haired guy.

"Fucking fine, then." The Captain finally gave in. "You can come, whatever."

The man seemed relieved at this and immediately started helping load the ship. However, he seemed to be shaken about something and would constantly look over his shoulder. It wouldn't be too long before they all discovered what exactly was he so nervous about. About half an hour later, right as they were loading the last supplies on, a group of 5 men that lookes like they were made of pure muscle began angrily approaching the ship.

"Oh shit..." The new crew member said looking panicked. "Any chance we can leave right this very moment?"

"THE FUCK YOU GOT US INTO, FLAT FACE!?" The Captain yelled drawing out his sword.

That may have been the most beautiful sword the guy's black eyes had ever seen. The handle was ornated in a flowy, vine-like design decorated with gemstones in the dipping points, culminating in a big orange stone at the base. The blade had a polished silvery surface that reflected perfectly like a mirror, it also looked sharp enough to cut a man in half with a single swing, and it had an inscription on one side in a language that the new guy could not decipher. Where had this guy even found such a thing? He would probably have to find that out later.

"I may or may not have... stolen their leader's jewelry and the map I mentioned while he was sleeping." He answered throwing one last bag of food onto the ship's deck.

"Great, another fucking moron in the crew." The Captain told to himself.

"There you fucking are, you sneaky little bastard." One of the guys approaching said looking at them.

"Well, hello there mates, how can I help you today?" The runaway smiled politely at them.

"I'm gonna fucking kill you." Another one informed.

"Well, that's not very nice." The young man said getting a dagger out of his boot.

"EARS, SET SAIL FUCKING FAST." Ordered the Captain.

"ON IT." Announced a voice while a figure started swinging through the ropes, unveiling the sails while the bright yellow haired guy retrieved the anchor.

The group of men charged at the two standing in front of the ship, who were smaller but much faster than them. The Captain moved smoothly, blocking the attacks almost effortlessly; he seemed to be on another level, it looked like he had some type of formal training. The new guy avoided the blades while moving his dagger sneakily, making small cuts on the men's exposed skin. They hold them back long enough for the ship to start moving forward, then he stuck his dagger on a guy's shoulder and jumped aboard while the Captain sliced a surface cut across another guy's chest and followed him.

"YOU SON OF A WHORE!" The stabbed man yelled at the black haired guy.

"PROUDLY SO, YOU PIECE OF SHIT!" He yelled back.

Then, another one of the men took out a pistol and shot him. The bullet went right through his left arm, the impact making him fall back onto the deck floor. At this, the crewmate who he assumed was the one the Captain had called Ears took out their own gun and fired back two shots that hit the guy perfectly on both his feet. And off the ship went futher away onto the sea.

Everyone had been busy since sailing and now the sun had finished hiding under the horizon, but they had barely said a word to each other. The man with the bright yellow colored hair, that also had a single streak of black hair on his left side, had helped the new guy with his bullet wound. After that, the Captain had made him singlehandedly clean the whole deck as a punishment for getting them into his mess and spilling his blood on the floor.

"You got a name, runaway?" The blond guy asked as they were eating dinner.

"Oh, right, it's Hanta Sero." The new guy answered.

"Well nice to meet you, Hanta," responded the first one, "I'm Denki, Denki Kaminari."

"I haven't heard any names," Sero noticed, "does the Captain ever call anyone by their real name?"

"He won't even tell us his own name." Commented Kaminari.

"Seriously?"

"Yep, he's a very private man." Answered the purple haired person that had shot the man back at the port. "I'm Jirou, by the way, Kyouka Jirou."

"I would say secretive, but yeah." Said the blond man. "So what's your story, Hanta? How did you end up being chased by a gang like that?"

"Well, I was born and raised in that town. The son of a prostitute, such a title, am I right? Don't get me wrong, my mom was a very good mother, but people never gave me a second thought. All I knew how to do was mantain a brothel and deal with men, what use could I have? That's their opinion of me. Most of my mother's clients did what they came to do, paid and moved on. But the lider of the gang we saw back then... crossed a lot of lines, and so I had to get revenge. I... just stole from him and that's why they're after me so I had to leave."

"What a mess, man" Kaminari expressed his sympathy. "I'll tell you my story another time"

"Keep in mind, nobody ever tells the whole story out here..." Jirou clarified "We're all runing from something."

They clearly knew Sero himself wasn't telling the whole story, and no one expected him to. After all, it's easier to hide your secrets in the seas.
