PROMPT: "how do you fail a survey?".
Lin sat there in her bed, looking over piece of paper in her hand. She'd answered at least 10 questions by now and she was still confused by some of them. How do you take care of yourself after work? Do you take breaks after working for a long time? How much sleep do you get? 5, 8 or 9 hours?
"Hmph" Lin spat, putting down the piece of paper in frustration. Kya's head popped out of the bathroom, pondering what was on her wife's mind. She scanned her furrowed brows, her olive green eyes staring furiously in the distance. Something was wrong. Walking over to her, she got in bed and planted a soft kiss on Lin's cheek.
"Hey Linnie, what's wrong? Is there something on your mind?", she asked, her hands and chin on Lin's shoulder.
"It's nothing.. I have to complete this survey after work. All the officers have to do it, even me, love", Lin replied softly. Despite her frustration, she didn't want to take it out on Kya. She never did, after all, she was the love of her life. Kya quirked up her eyebrows questionably. "Okay, well what's the survey about? Can I see it?". Kya grabbed it as soon as she got her eyes on it, excited about what it contained.
"Kya, no. Give it to me", Lin said it sternly, holding out her hand. "I mean it". She looked at Kya knowingly over her reading glasses.
"Wow... you used your Chief voice on me? You must really not want me to see this, huh?", Kya mocked, getting up off of the bed and slowly backing away from her wife.
"Ahh, so this is how it's going to be". Lin took off her glasses and robe, smirking triumphantly as she rose out of bed, ready to fight her for it. Her wife hummed in reply, laughing underneath her breath. Lin grabbed Kya and pushed her onto the bed, clasping her wrists and tickling her sides as they battled for their precious prize. Kya took Lin's waist into her hands, and toppled her onto her back, straddling her as she tickled her into submission. She snatched the piece of paper in her hand and held Lin's hands in the other, claiming her win.
"Hmmm, RCPD Well-Being Survey". Lin sighed exasperatingly, smiling at her wife, but tired from her defeat. Kya looked closely at the answers to the questions.
"Wait, Lin why did you say not applicable on the sleep question?". Kya shot the Chief of Police a questioning look, giggling quietly.
"Uh.. my answer isn't on there", Lin said abruptly, looking to the side. Kya worked her way up to Lin's face, crawling up to her and bopping her on the nose. "How much sleep do you get?".
"Less than 5 that's for sure", Lin muttered. Kya chuckled and laid flat on Lin's chest.
"Lin, you have less than 5 hours of sleep every night???? I keep telling you, you need to start taking care of yourself more!". Lin rolled her eyes.
"Spare me the lecture, please love?", Lin replied, kissing her forehead. She knew where the conversation was going. She'd heard Kya's advice before; take more days off, spend less time on paperwork, stop sacrificing yourself all the time....
Although she sounded like a broken record, she knew it was because she wanted what was best for her.
"What I want to know is what were you thinking when you answered these questions? Lin, how do you fail a survey?". Kya couldn't stop herself from laughing as she laid there, ogling the piece of paper in her hand.
"Hey, get off my case okay!". Lin exclaimed.
"Yes Chief!" Kya spoke firmly, saluting and sitting up straight. They burst into a peal of laughter looking up to the ceiling. Lin turned to Kya, staring into her aquamarine pupils, and cupped her cheek, trailing over her skin.
"I am so glad I married you...."
