Time for a wedding - Daycare AU

Summary:

So many changes have happened in the last few months and Dream felt himself fall deeper and deeper in love with George. And now his best friend was finally getting married to his long time fiancé!
It was exciting. It was stressful.
It made him think about his future with George and their little family.

Notes:

I'm back boiiiis!

I'm back and I'm bringing you another overly fluffy part of my series!
I really like this one actually, which is not necessarily a good sign!
But either way, I hope you enjoy this as well.
The first paragraph is a direct copy of the first paragraph of the first part, because I liked the reminder of a whole year passing in this au
I have decided not to write a whole wedding in detail, because I have only been to one wedding in my life and it was not the most exciting thing I have ever witnessed, so if this feels fast paced, this is why! I hope you can still enjoy this mess of toothrotting fluff!

I love working with symbols, if you haven't noticed. The previous parts was a lot of "family" and "home" as a concept, but now I decided to try something else, I hope you guys like the idea!

Also thank you thank you thank you for all the love and the comments on the previous parts.
It really does make my whole day reading your comments and thoughts and I will answer everyone! It is so amazing to see all the support and it motivates me a lot to continue!

(See the end of the work for more notes.)

Work Text:

It was Monday right after his holiday break, and that meant the new kids would be arriving at the nursery today. It was the start of the settling-in phase for the new children, and it was by far Dream’s least favorite time of the year. It tended to be unnecessarily stressful and the parents were more clingy than most of the children. Dream and his co-workers Karl and Niki agreed that settling-in was for the parents to start letting go of their “little treasures”.

This year, he didn’t arrive alone at nursery though. He walked in, to Niki handing him a cup of coffee, grinning at her. Quackity waddled in happily right behind him, waving excitedly at Niki.

Niki waved back at him, kneeling by his side. “Hey Alex, so happy to see you’re back!”

Quackity moved to hug her and Niki ruffled his hair. “How was your break?”

“Good! Played a lot with my daddies.”

Niki frowned a little confused by the plural and glanced up at Dream. Dream was blushing darkly, but also had the biggest smile on his face. He put a gentle hand on Quackity’s hand. “Q, how about you say hello to Shroud and Fundy over there?”

Alex nodded, but before he left he tugged on Dream’s pant leg. Dream put the cup of coffee aside,  kneeled down and the boy pressed a light kiss to his cheek. “Daddy forgetted! But I never forget!”

George had indeed not kissed him this morning, as they were all in a rush, having massively overslept and Dream rushed out of the door with Alex, leaving little time for any affectionate moments.

Dream had not expected Alex to pick up on that, then again, he was quite observant. “You’re right. He did. But I trust you to never forget.”

Alex smiled and waved, before running over to his friends at the block station. They were stacking up to build a large castle. Quackity was quick to sit and listen to instructions. He was not too good with the precision needed for stacking blocks on top of each other to make a big tower, but he liked helping and so he would be fine just sitting and listening and following their lead.

Dream stood back up and took his cup, if only to avoid the eyes of his co-worker, who looked more than smug.

“So…. daddy, huh?” She teased and watched in amusement the cheeks of her co-worker flame up again.

“Dad, actually,” he coughed awkwardly.

“Oh? So this is not the first time this has happened?”

Dream bit his lip, to try and not look like he was glowing with absolute happiness at simple words used by a toddler. “Not exactly, no.”

Niki smiled wider and nudged him with her arm. “Hey, isn’t that great though? Why are you acting so shy about it?”

“I’m… I’m still getting used to it. I don’t want to get my hopes up in case he stops one day.”

Niki rolled her eyes at Dream, patting his shoulder, before getting her own cup back into her hands, to watch the few kids they had so far.

“I don’t think it will stop anytime soon.”

Dream hummed, but did not lay his insecurities out for her, not now at least. Maybe he should talk about it sooner or later though. He and Niki were good at pulling each other back to reality and had no shy to call out ridiculous thought processes that only existed to ruin a good day. He was so grateful to have her in his life.

“So. Another year has passed and it’s time for the best part of the year.”

Dream sent Niki a look, making the woman laugh. No one liked settling in phase, and just because it turned out pretty good for him last time, didn’t mean that he was looking forward to it this year again.

They went about the morning until Karl joined them, who walked right past Dream and straight to Niki.

“Oh my god, Niki! Did you know that Alex called Dream dad?” He asked in a hushed tone, but made it sound super important.

“Yeah, I got to witness it earlier.”

“Isn’t that the sweetest thing?” He laughed, earning a nod and a laugh from Niki.

“Yeah. It is. But I cannot believe you knew and didn’t tell me!” She accused and pushed at Karl’s chest weakly. She didn’t want to hurt him after all, and they couldn’t do it too obviously either, because children were quick to copy such actions.

“I’m sorry. I was occupied by a crying Dream.”

Niki looked past Karl to Dream, who was drawing together with Fundy and Foolish at the drawing table.

“He cried?”

“Full on sobbing, I’m telling you.”

“Oh my god.”

“Right?”

Dream, not looking up from his drawing of a mushroom city, hummed loud enough for the other two to hear. “I can still hear you, you know?”

Karl turned to the children. “Who wants breakfast!”

The day continued easily, breakfast was served, the kids were called into a circle to talk about their holidays. The new kids arrived right on time for Dream to dismiss the morning circle and greet the parents and kids. This year there were six new children, two boys and four girls.

Dream could already feel the headache come to him, when one of the girls flipped him off when he introduced himself, and the only thing the mother did was tell her not to do that, because there were other kids around. One of the boys was unable to move from his mother’s lap, not because he didn’t want to, but because she was clearly not ready to let him go yet.
So Dream worked on introducing himself, the group, his co-workers and their overall daily routine. The mom’s were listening, which made his job a million times easier, because he has had moments where talking to the parents was like talking to a brick wall.

“If you don’t mind, I would like to take all of you outside before lunch. Then the children can get to know the others better and I’m sure they’re excited to move around a bit as well.”

Everyone agreed and they went to put their clothes on. Dream and Karl sat on the ground, waiting for the children who needed help with their shoes to come to them. Niki was getting the outside ready, gathering toys and chalk to draw on the stones. The weather was still nice and coats were unnecessary, therefore the getting dressed part was rather quick.

Dream stayed in the back of the row with the new parents and children, but Quackity joined him there, taking his hand to go outside with him as his row partner.

Being outside went better than expected, but the day still ended up leaving Dream tired, exhausted from parents who refused to cooperate and children running all around him, wanting his attention as much as the new kids got.

“Don’t fall in love with the new parents,” Niki had teased him, earning her a stolen coffee mug and a dramatic eye roll from Dream.

The only thing that lifted his spirit was when Karl handed him and Niki an envelope, smiling. “Guess it’s finally official.”

The invitation was beautiful in rainbow colours, with Orange and Purple highlighted as their colours. It was a joke with Sapnap that had started when Dream and him were still in highschool. In an early art class that they had to take, the teacher called about colour association or something and Dream and Sapnap just joked about giving all their friends corresponding colors, making fun of how one day they would collect all colours.

And when they met Bad, a long time friend they met in college, he got the colour red assigned to him, and as Sapnap and Dream came out, the jokes were that they needed to find people to complete their rainbow with them.

Meeting Karl, Sapnap told him about their little thing and Karl loved it, immediately claiming purple as his. “I found our purple”, Sapnap had told him that night. Dream knew from that moment on that they would last.

And so their colours always followed them around, ending up as the highlighted colours on their wedding invitation.

“A November wedding, huh?”

“I wanted a halloween wedding, but Nick said no,” Karl laughed.

Dream laughed as well and carefully stored the invitation away.

“Hey, George is not getting one. But he is already noted as your plus one,” Karl said seriously, “and Alex is of course coming as well.”

Dream hummed. “I’ll ask.”

“No, don’t ask. Tell him. They have to come, gotta complete the rainbow.”

Dream shook his head, but smiled. “Sure. I will tell them.”

Karl smiled pleased. “Good.”

Dream turned to finish cleaning the classroom, only having Alex left in the room, who was happily cleaning paper scraps and blocks from the tables, until he walked to Dream. “Dad, all finished!”

Dream grinned at him. “Well done, baby. Shall we go home?”

“Yes! Home to daddy!”

“Yeah!” He cheered and sent him out to get his shoes. Dream sighed happily watching him leave.

“This is everything I wanted..”

“God, you’re so gross,” Niki teased, grabbed her coat and said goodbye for the day. Dream promised that they would catch up at some point and Niki promised to hold him to it.

Dream tied Quackity’s shoes for him and they were on their way home. George, now not having to go to the nursery after work, was already home, preparing a snack for his son.

Quackity ran straight up to his father after entering the apartment. Dream followed amused, leaving his shoes and Alex’s backpack at the door. He stretched and joined the other two in the kitchen. He greeted George with a quick kiss and then stole a piece of apple from the plate George had prepared.

“Hey! They’re not for you,” George scolded and Dream just grinned at him.

“Well, try and stop me then.”

Today was not a day where George indulged Dream’s childish challenge and he kneeled down to hug his son instead, listening to him ramble on and on about his day. Dream got something to drink in the meantime, watching Alex talk with his full body, hands flying everywhere, and George listening closely to what was being said to him, making sure to ask questions, making Alex even more happy to talk about his day.

Soon enough he was done and asked for a snack instead, which George complied with and Quackity grabbed his plate. Dream watched Alex hold onto the plate with both hands, focusing on the plate and flicking his eyes up every now and then, for orientation, making sure he didn’t drop anything.

Dream had noticed that before, but Alex did not trust his own balance and motoric abilities to carry his things undamaged to his place. He would learn with time though, Dream assured George over and over again.

George followed his son into the living room, where he sat on the couch right next to Quackity, so the boy wasn’t alone in the room.
Dream sat on the armchair across from them, crossing his legs.

“Karl gave me the invitation today.”

George looked up from Alex who was dribbling all over himself.

“Oh? When is it set now?”

“November.”

George grinned. “So no Halloween wedding.”

“Nope. Sapnap won.”

“A shame. I would have loved to see Karl dress up as a witch.”

Dream hummed amused, he leaned to the side to rest his head on his hand. “You’re coming, right?”

George tilted his head to the side, looking at Dream in a way the man had learned to read as George being unsure what was asked of him right now.  “What do you mean?”

“Well, Karl wasn’t sure if you wanted to come.”

“Why wouldn't I want to come?”

Dream shrugged, smiling at his boyfriend from across the room. “I don’t know. Maybe he was scared you would be uncomfortable, because you haven’t known them for as long.”

“I talk with them about the potty training I’m doing with my son. I talk with them about us. I talk with Karl about almost everything and they think I’m not comfortable? What a bunch of idiots.”

“Idiits!” Quackity exclaimed right next to them and George’s eyes widened.

“Nono, no Q. That’s a bad word. Don’t say that.”

Quackity mumbled around his apple slice. “But daddy said it.”

Dream grinned amused, not jumping in to save his boyfriend from that. He loved to see him struggle with explanations sometimes. If that made Dream evil, he could happily deal with that.

George looked between Dream and Alex, opening his mouth several times, especially suffering under the intense look he was getting from Alex, who was waiting for an explanation, so he could learn something new. Eager little boy, Dream thought to himself.

“I know, daddy shouldn’t have said it either. It’s a bad word and no one should say that.”

“Even daddy?”

“Even daddy.” George nodded, stroking Alex’s hair.

“Okay. So no bad words. Even daddy and dad.”

Dream nodded as well from his spot and gave Alex a thumbs up, making the boy smile brightly. Crisis averted for now.

Preparing for a wedding you were the best man for, sorting out apartment hunting with your boyfriend, raising a three year old with energy for days and working full time was more stressful than Dream had imagined. He was adjusting to a new work schedule as well. He had switched with Niki, who was usually taking the early shifts, which meant getting home earlier, but she had kindly stepped down and permanently switched with Dream, so Alex didn’t have to stay in nursery all day, instead got to go early and leave earlier together with Dream.
George had adjusted his work hours as well, so he was working in the office and worked from home and finished everything he didn’t manage during the office hours. So all three had more time during the day, and Alex had time with both of them.

George had more time at work, if the day was slow he had the possibilities to look out for apartments that could hold everything for the three of them. They were looking for a three bedroom apartment, so George could have his office and not have to finish some of his codes on the couch. But apartment hunting was exhausting, since they needed a place close to the nursery and future schools, as well as to George’s office and have it still be affordable. It was a challenge.

On top of that stress, Dream noticed that the last suit he owned he wore during his high school graduation, and he had grown since then. The suit wasn’t appropriate for a wedding at the end of the day anyway, so on top of getting an apartment, Dream had to get himself a new suit.

George luckily had several nice outfits and suits for his job, since his boss was very clear on office attire. But the man was looking for outfits to put his son in, even though they wouldn't buy anything for Alex before the end of October, because he was bound to grow out of it by then, if they bought something now.

In conclusion, it was a stressful time for Dream and George, but they tried their very best to make time for each other as well, just the two of them. That usually meant they waited for Alex to go to bed, before any shenanigans ensued.

One night it would be them trying to fit into their bathtub, only to find out that the two of them were definitely too big for it. But the way George laughed at Dream having to pull his legs in, was a memory Dream would hold dear forever. George’s laugh was one of his favorite sounds. If it was his loud bursts of laughter, that would make them worry whether or not Alex would wake up from it, or if it was the small short giggles that escaped him involuntarily.

Another night, Dream had discovered that George did not know how to dance and he could not accept not dancing at his best friend’s wedding, so he tried to teach him. It went very badly, ending with George giving up and instead standing on Dream’s feet as he led them through the small living room.

Sometimes they would look at apartments together, places George had looked at and deemed acceptable for the three of them. They would be cuddled up on the couch, with George’s tablet on their laps as they looked through the places they could afford. Maybe they would look at houses or bigger apartments, dreaming and bullshitting how they would use the space, and what their life could be like if they had the money to afford all that. One night they were doing that, Dream had joked: “That house is big enough. We could have another baby. Make Q a big brother.”

George had looked up from the tablet and Dream, a glint in his eyes of something dreamy, something wishful. But maybe Dream was imagining it. George hummed out a response: “You gotta marry me first. To make the adoption easier of course.”

Dream grinned, leaning his head against George’s. “Of course,” he agreed lazily, “but what if I don’t want to adopt? What if I want more little Gogy’s running around?”

He wasn’t scolded for the use of the hated nickname. He didn’t use it very often, but when he did, he usually got a hit against the shoulder or a dramatic eye roll in response, not today though.

“Now why would you want that?”

Dream smiled at him, shrugging. “You’re pretty.”

The bluntness of the statement, brought a light tint of colour to his cheeks and George sat up, pushing Dream away.

“Right. What about Q? I don’t want him feeling left out.”

“I would adopt him first of course. Make this beautiful princess my son legally as well.”

George smiled at that, looking straight at him. “You would?”

“Of course. He is the best. I love him more than you, actually.”

George laughed, nodding. “Of course you do.”

They weren’t talking seriously, not really at least. But that didn’t mean that either of them forgot about the conversation. In fact, it stayed with Dream longer than we would like to admit.

Sapnap had listened to him more than once run down the conversation, over analyzing every word exchanged between them, to try and decipher where to go from there. Sapnap told him more than once to just let the relationship run from where it was right now. There was no need for drastic changes. Dream, admittedly reluctant, agreed.

As November approached, Dream had sat down with Karl, Sapnap and Chris (who was Karl’s best man), brainstorming suits for the wedding. They ended up agreeing on coloured suits. Karl and Sapnap were both wearing white, but they each had their assigned colour as a tissue as an accessory. Dream would be wearing green. And to make the rainbow finished, they decided to assign the rest colours as well. Dream knew George owned a light blue suit, so George would be blue, Bad would be red, Chris would be purple, for Karl, while Niki was gonna take over orange for Sapnap.

“That leaves yellow,” Chris hummed and Dream watched Karl and Sapnap exchange a look.

“Well.. we were thinking,” Karl started, but trailed off.

Sapnap grinned. “What about Q? His favorite colour is yellow, right? You’re just my best man, because Q can’t be.”

Dream laughed softly. “You want Alex to be yellow?”

Karl nodded. “Yeah, it would be cute. Besides, yellow represents happiness and I feel like there is no one else who could be trusted with a colour of that meaning."

“Well, I gotta tell George that the outfit we looked up is not relevant anymore," Dream grinned amused.

Sapnap laughed. “Gogy can handle it.”

It was decided then. Quackity would be their yellow. Dream couldn’t help but think it fit too well with all of them.

He told George the same night, who loved the idea and sat down to look for suits for Quackity in yellow. Dream leaned against him, mumbling requests at him as he fell asleep on his lap.

He had found their blue, found their yellow. He finished their rainbow.
He told Sapnap that night, who answered with “I know. Keep them”.

The week leading up to the wedding was busy for Dream, as much as it was for Karl and Sapnap. He had told the kids on Monday:

“Karl is getting married on Saturday. So I need all of you to draw a picture or craft a heart or something like that, so we can all give him a present, alright?”

The kids were terrible at keeping secrets, but at least no one straight up told Karl what they were doing. He knew they were doing something , but he didn’t exactly know what it was. All the kids would answer “ask Dream!” when he asked them, and Dream had never been more proud of his class than during that week.

He sat down Friday afternoon after Nursery, together with Alex, and finished a small booklet with all the drawings and crafting the kids have made for Karl, as a present for his wedding. He cut out a rainbow, and clouds as well as a dragon and a tower with a prince in it, after popular demand of his students. Fundy explained “Karl always said that he was a prince, saved by the dragon”.
Dream couldn’t argue with that. So he complied and tried his best at crafting exactly that.

That night, George sat up in bed at night, his phone in hand like it had been most of the day. Dream looked at him when he noticed his restlessness.
“Is everything okay?”

George sighed. “Yes? No.. I don’t know.”

Dream sat up, stretching and looking at George, waiting for him to elaborate, which he did after a brief pause.

“I have been texting my ex. Alex’s mom.”

Dream nodded slowly, not yet sure what his emotions were. He wasn’t jealous, not really, but he knew the importance of that woman, knew that George had loved her and was ready to have a family with her, knew that she was Alex’s mother and always would have a spot in this family. But he usually didn’t really think about her, unless he was being very insecure.

“Okay?”

George sighed and leaned his head against the wall behind him. “I asked if she ever considered stepping down as Alex’s legal guardian, because she has never really.. seen him since she left. And she is not paying child support. I don’t want her to either, but she is his legal guardian and I… I dunno, I don’t want to have to put her onto every application I made for Alex. She is not in his life.”

There was something else, another reason lying beneath the sudden need to have her step down form the legal guardianship, but Dream did not let himself hope.

“But she is being difficult,” Dream concluded and George nodded.

“She wants to meet him now! After almost four years of his life, she wants to meet him,” he mumbled bitterly.

Dream moved his arm around George’s shoulders and when the man made no move to get away, Dream pulled him in. “We’ll figure it out.”

George sighed, putting his phone away and turning to press himself against Dream’s chest. “Promise me.”

“I promise.”

It was enough for now. They would figure it out. Dream was not one to back down from his promises. But for now they had a wedding to attend.

The day of the wedding started as chaotic as expected at home. Quackity wanted to wear the suit for breakfast and cried and fought when he was told no. Then George got under pressure because he couldn’t find the light blue tie he had set out, because it had fallen under the bed. Dream had an argument with Quackity who kept unpacking his backpack.

But eventually they got dressed, fixed their hair and got into the car to drive to the location where the ceremony and reception was being held. They had chosen a small cathedral to have their wedding in, which was big enough to also have the party there, no need for awkward location switches.

Alex was bouncing in the backseat and Dream knew he wasn’t the only one worried he wouldn't be able to sit through the entire reception.

They were wrong though. After Alex had promised Sapnap to be the best boy in the whole cathedral, the boy made almost no disturbances during the ceremony. He asked why Dream was standing instead of sitting with them, he clapped louder than everyone else, and he stood up several times, but overall was a minor inconvenience to deal with. He eventually joined Dream at the front, as Karl and Sapnap vowed their love to each other.

Dream picked him up when they exchanged rings, so he could see and he was the first to clap when Sapnap scooped Karl up and kissed him deeply, as husband and husband.

They were led to the reception, where George drank a glass of champagne, but Dream and Alex had orange juice instead. They congratulated the couple, Dream hugging his best friend close to his chest, mumbling how proud he was of him, and how happy he was.

“I know the future holds everything you have ever wanted. I am so happy for you, brother.”

Sapnap denied tearing up but their embrace lasted longer than the kiss at the altar between Karl and Sapnap.

They were pulled away for more congratulations, but Dream and George were joined by Niki, who complimented their outfits.

“Says you? You’re stealing the show!” Dream laughed, making her blush.

They were called for wedding pictures, after there were several ones taken of the grooms. They stood in line for their corresponding colour to form a rainbow Quackity was standing between Niki and Dream, until he was eventually lifted up by both of them to have him actually seen.

After that, Alex refused to get down from Dream’s arms for a while. And he let him get away with it for now. As soon as the reception was moved into the main area, the boy wanted to get down and started running through the whole room, with the few other children present at the wedding. Dream kept an eye on Q while George did all the socialising. Dream did have a firm hand on George’s waist to not lose him in the flood of people around.

George had no problem making conversation with people around them, laughing and making them laugh, while Dream enjoyed just listening, unless he was being directly spoken to. He was the one who went to get their assigned seats at the groom’s table, while George was trying to catch his son, who was running around the room, laughing loudly, while trying to escape George.

Before the food was served there was a short break for speeches.
Neither Karl and Sapnap wanted to give a speech, so it was up to the best men Chris and Dream to do it instead.

Chris went first, talking about every embarrassing instance he could remember, where Karl was painfully pining over Sapnap. He talked about the fails he could recall, and the love he saw between the couple. Chris kept it short for everyone’s sake.

Dream was given the microphone next and he stood up, grinning.  “Well, I could go on and on about all the embarrassing stuff Sapnap had done in the past. I have plenty of those. But I decided against it. I have known him since forever, we went to school together, he was with me during my apprenticeship, studied with me and I think he knows as much about the theory of raising children as Karl and I.”

He smiled at his best friend, but Sapnap did not look convinced.

“Sapnap is my best friend. And I am so proud to be here today. He did everything right by choosing Karl. I have never seen him this happy. After the second date, he told me that Karl is his purple. And it would be too much to explain now. But I knew that they would last. And Karl has proven himself. He really is the purple we needed.”

Karl looked at Sapnap, mouthing something that Dream could only guess was “second date?”

Dream leaned down and picked up Quackity, who held onto his neck. “Before I say my congratulations to the grooms, someone else has something to say as well. I was told he is the best man as well after all.”

Dream held Quackity up with one arm, the other hand was holding the mic to his mouth, so the boy wouldn't try and put it into his mouth.

“Dad said I have to say cong… coragn… congr…”

“Congratulations,” Dream helped and Quackity only nodded.

He looked at Dream for further advice who whispered into Q’s ear what he can say.

“I am very happy. Uncle Sapnap and Uncle Karl are the best. I love you.”

The whole room melted at the words and Quackity, though usually a social butterfly, hid his face in Dream’s shoulder, making the room aww even more.

Dream leaned his head against Quackity’s, and hummed into the microphone. “I love you both as well, very much. I wish you the best.”

Karl looked like he was crying and he blew a kiss at them. Sapnap reached his arms out to take the boy and Quackity happily went over to them. They gushed at him, how he called them “uncle Karl and uncle Sapnap”.

George laughed, squeezing Dream’s hand when the man sat back down again. Alex stayed with the grooms for a while, giving Dream and George a bit of time to chat about the ceremony so far, as well as give them time to catch up with the people around the table.

When food was finally being served, George got his son back, against Sapnap’s wishes.

“Trust me. The way he eats, it’s better this way.”

George sat Alex next to himself, trying his best to save the yellow suit from food spots, but it was a lost cause as soon as he saw sauce on the plate his son got. And sure enough, it didn’t even take five minutes for Quackity’s white shirt to be splattered with food. George had at least thought about taking off his jacket for him. Alex was restless as soon as he was done eating and he joined a bunch of kids in the middle of the room, playing with toys they brought.

There was a lot of chatting going on around the tables, some joking and betting who would be the next to get married.

When it was time for the first dance, the guests gathered around the dance floor, watching Karl lead Sapnap around the dancefloor with unmatchable grace. The couple had started to take dance lessons years ago as a joke but found that they actually really enjoyed dancing together. They were amazing at it.

A few couples joined them on the dance floor, but George refused, scared he would embarrass himself in front of all those people. He was fine with being the butt of a joke, if he was not actually trying, but he knew if he would dance with Dream, they would look ridiculous together, and he didn’t want that. So George refused.

So Dream danced with Karl when Sapnap was dancing with his mother. He told him how proud he was of him, and how good he looked.

“Dude stop. Or I will cry again. I cried so many times already. I’m sure I cried during our wedding pictures.”

Dream laughed and changed the subject instead to something more lighthearted, until Karl brought up the best man speech.

“I know he said he was sure about me pretty early. But did he really say that after the second date?”

Dream hummed. “Oh yes. He did. He was so gone.”

Karl laughed, leaning his head against Dream’s shoulder.

They danced like that, until Karl’s mother interrupted them with a shy smile, wanting to dance with her son.

Dream left and found Quackity instead, who was shaking his hips against the beat of the music.

He danced with the kids in a circle for a few songs. He and Sapnap wouldn't dance, not because Dream didn’t want to, but because Sapnap said he was too manly to dance with his best friend, his brother. Dream knew it was because he would end up crying.

“Dance?”

Quackity asked, looking up at Dream, and he was picked up by Dream, balanced on his hip and he took his hand in his own, swaying in the beat of the music.

Quackity giggled, enjoying the dancing they did. They stayed together for two whole songs.
During one of them, Alex asked: “you marry daddy, too?”

Dream smiled and kissed his forehead. “You want me to?”

“Yes.”

There was no room for arguing against the three year old, and so Dream just hummed and danced on with the boy, still following the proper steps, while holding him in his arms.

He was brutally stolen from him by Sapnap. And Quackity, the little traitor, went willingly, dancing with Sapnap and then the two grooms together.

Dream left the dancefloor then, joining his boyfriend at the table instead. He didn’t join the conversation he was having, just enjoying being near him.
George however, surprised him by standing up and offering his hand. “We’re dancing.”

Dream looked up, following the hand with his eyes, up to the arm to George’s face. “What?”

“You wanna dance. And I want to dance with you. So we’re dancing.”

Dream laughed amused, "you can't dance", but took George’s hands and let himself be dragged back to the dancefloor.

George put both arms around Dream’s neck, but Dream corrected them by taking one hand from his shoulder, holding it in his own instead. He pressed their joined hand between them against his own chest, while the other one settled on George’s back. They did not move in the rhythm of the music, swaying in their own little melody. Alex was taken care of, by literally everyone around them, this moment belonged to them.

George hummed softly in between them, like he was scared to pop the bubble they created by joining the dancefloor.

“We have to leave soon… Q needs to get to bed.”

Dream nodded softly. “I know.”

George nodded, relaxing his arms, so his hand was only resting on Dream’s shoulders instead. Dream looked at him, taking in his eyes, his face, his blue suit, his everything.

“You know how I said Sapnap had found his purple in Karl?”

George looked up, smiling. “Yeah. Your little colour system. It’s cute.”

Dream nodded, pulling him a little closer by his hips. “Wanna know a secret?”

George grinned, but nodded. “Yeah.”

“I found my blue, with you.”

It rendered him speechless. George did not know what to answer to that. Dream had explained the colour thing to him a couple weeks before the wedding, when he was writing his best man speech. George was amused.

Dream ran his thumbs over the side of George’s waist, kissing their joined hands, never letting his eyes leave George’s face.

“We haven’t been together for much longer than a year,” Dream hummed, watching George nod his head.

He had not prepared anything. It just came over him, as he stood here with George, at the wedding of his best friend, feeling overcome with emotions of rightness and love.

“We can talk about this more, and I don’t have a ring,” Dream mumbled, leaning his head against George’s.

He saw the pupils widen in the brown eyes of the man in his arms.

George knew what was coming.

“Dream,” he breathed into the space between them, “Clay…”

“I don’t want to let you go, George,” Dream lowered his voice, not caring that the song was changing to a more upbeat one, this moment belonged to them, “and I understand if you still have doubt. But I love you. And I really want to marry you. And adopt Alex. And have more little George’s run around me.”

“Dream…” George whispered again, his bottom lip wobbling, but his eyes did not show any sign of distress.

“I would really like to stay, forever, if you’ll have me.”

“What if I want tiny Dream's though?"

Dream’s lips quirked up. “Is that a yes?"

George looked shy. "It's a lot of paper work and surrogation is expensive-"

Dream grinned brightly at him. "Is that a yes?"

George nodded eagerly. “Yes. Yes of course. Yes to everything. Absolutely everything, Dream. Yes to you. I will marry you.”

Dream leaned down and kissed George, pulling him flush against his chest. He kissed him like his life depended on it. He would get this man a ring, and ask him again. He would make him the happiest man alive. This was what he had always wanted.

George leaned away again, laughing softly. “I can’t believe you really just asked me to marry you.”

Dream grinned. “And you agreed. I think that means we can have another tiny you. And maybe a tiny me as well.”

“I haven’t stopped thinking about it, since we first talked about it. I wasn’t sure you meant it, so I didn’t bring it up again! But I even texted my ex, so she could step down as Q’s legal guardian. So… in the case that you were serious…”

Dream’s grin widened and he stole another kiss. And another one. “I love you.”

“I love you, too, idiot.”

“That is a bad word, daddy!”
Q gasped, making the couple pull apart to see the little boy stand between them. They had not noticed that the song had changed yet again and Alex had waddled all the way to them.

George chuckled and kneeled down. “You know what? You’re right. It was a bad word. I shouldn’t say that. But you wanna know a secret?”

Alex leaned closer, ready to hear the secret. “Yes.”

“I love you!” George exclaimed and hugged the boy close, making Quackity giggle loudly, struggling against him, until George picked him up.

Quackity soon stopped fighting and rested his head on George’s shoulder, getting comfortable there.

“You marry dad, too?” The boy asked, the same question he had asked Dream earlier.

George smiled. “Yeah. I will.”

Dream saw Alex smile and then watched the boy’s eyes flutter close. A yawn escaped him, he was clearly getting exhausted from the exciting day they had. Dream smiled at them. Seemed like this was their cue to go home.

Notes:

The idea of Quackity being best man and giving a speech was 100% my sister's idea, so big shout out to her for listening to my shit and still giving me ideas!

Let me know what you thought of this <3
