Work Text:
You hated it. Not just the island, not just the crash, but everything. This whole situation, the days and every single minute in which you neither knew where you were nor what you were supposed to be doing.
Well, you had a lot to do, fetching water, sorting things, building accommodation, but you'd rather get out of here than make your own home.
"Can I help you?"
You look up from the sticks and tarpaulin, a little uncertain. In front of you is a bald man with a nice smile, he was the one who went hunting and provided you with food, but he was also the one who had several knives with him.
"Um .." you said carefully. You didn't really want to talk to anyone, you wanted to look at your peace and quiet and your unhappiness, but you needed something to sleep on and you would probably never make it on your own.
"That would be very nice," you finally say with a smile.
"I'm John Locke, by the way," he said gently as he lined up the logs and tied them together.
“(Y / N) (Y / L / N)” you introduce yourself.
"Ah." He said profusely and looked at you briefly. "You helped Jack pull some of the injured out of the water, I think you treated one too, didn't you?" He asked, while he pressed a tarp into your hand and instructed you to lay it over the wood.
"Yes." You said curtly.
“Very brave of you, what are you doing? Apart from the fact that you are stuck on an island. "
A little laugh flew across your face, for the first time in days you had to laugh.
"I wanted to be a doctor," you admitted. "Maybe Jack can teach you something, I think he's grateful for any help." He explained quietly before stepping back a little and inspecting your hut. "That should last for now," he muttered.
"Thank you very much and I'll ask Jack, there is definitely something I can do."
"I'm glad to hear it." With the words, he said goodbye and left you behind.
The hatred of the situation wasn't just gone, but at least you could learn something here, so you put on a smile and tried to find Jack in the crowd.
You had been here for a few days and some of the faces were no longer so strange to you, but you hadn't really had a conversation with any of them, apart from John.
Unsure who to ask, your run-up to the first person. "Hey, I'm looking for Jack, do you happen to know where I could find him?" You asked gently.
"Jack, maybe in the tent, but I would rather not go in there, not now." Came softly from the person.
“Why not?” You ask.
“Have you ever been there in the last few hours or days? The man with the broken leg is lying in the tent and screaming, ”he mumbles softly.
"Oh." That was all you could say before you took a deep breath, you wanted to be a doctor, so go!
"Thank you um ..." you looked at him questioningly, hoping he would understand that you were looking for his name. "Charlie." He helped you. "Thank you, Charlie." You said goodbye and walked towards the tent.
The closer you got to the tent, the more you wondered why you couldn't hear the screams Charlie had spoken of, but when you got to the tent you knew why the man passed out.
Above him stood a man with short, black hair and a sweaty forehead.
"Jack?" You started softly. He hadn't noticed you, so you wanted his attention first before you hit the door in the house.
"Um (Y / N)? Right, isn't it? ”He asked tiredly.
“Yes, I am.” You assured him.
You wanted to go on talking, but the man who started right in front of the lag grimace.
Jack wanted to grab the towel, which was in a bucket of water, but you were faster. You kneel in front of him and put the rag on his forehead.
“Should I relieve you of something? You look tired. ”You stated.
“Do you know what you're doing?” He asked.
"Not really," you said honestly. “But I want to be a doctor, I wanted to start my second semester.” You explained, “and then all of a sudden I was here. I actually wanted to ask if you could teach me something. I can be your assistant or something. "
He looked at you for a long time, he looked at you and seemed to consider whether it would be a relief or just more work.
"I'll think about it," he promised you then.
“Wake me up when he wakes up when he has a fever or starts to cramp. Keep an eye on his breathing and cool him down if necessary. If you are otherwise unsure, you can wake me up too, ”he muttered with his eyes almost closed.
Okay, you could do that and if you did it well, maybe he'd give you a chance.
Even though the man died a few days later, which wasn't your fault, Jack took you with him. You followed him, listened to him, and got to know the people.
Several weeks had passed by now, it was difficult to say exactly how many, your sense of time had long since left you.
You made friends, you spent a lot of time with Claire and Charlie, often talked to John and the boy who was standing by him, who introduced himself as Boone, and the rest of the time you were with Jack and Kate.
Your hut looked a little better and was now a little more comfortable. You had some blankets and a bag that you used as a pillow.
The problem with the water was resolved and you had found your everyday life.
For surviving a plane crash, stranded on an island, and not really knowing anyone, you felt almost at ease.
In the first few weeks, you kept dreaming of a crash, but that was over, or at least you thought so.
The whole thing was repeated in front of your eyes, the turbo lances, the screaming, the impact, and in front of the lay the injured strangers, who were no longer strangers.
In front of you were Claire, Charlie, John, and Boone. Desperately you shouted for Jack, he had to help you, but he was nowhere to be seen. Your eyes flew in a panic over the wounds, who needed your help most?
Immediately you headed for Claire. Her hands were on her stomach and she screamed, "It's going to be fine, calm down. What is hurting you? ”Before she could answer, John sat up. "Boone is dying." He said softly and immediately you jumped up and ran towards him.
"What can I do?" You asked in a panic when you saw a huge wound on his leg.
"Help him." Came from John, who got up and walked away.
"What should I do?" Came from you again.
Boone kept screaming and John ran away.
"Jack, Jack help me." You shouted again, but no one came.
You stared at the wound and took off your top. Immediately you pressed the fabric onto the wound, hoping it would stop bleeding.
But on the contrary, more and more blood streamed over his leg and now also over your hands.
"He lied, John just lied." Came from Charlie who now also got up.
"Find Jack." You instruct him, but he no longer heard you. He helped Claire up and disappeared.
"Why is no one helping me?" It came from you in despair.
You noticed how Boone got weaker and weaker and died in your hands.
Tears ran down your face as you continued to press your top onto the wound.
"Why is no one helping me?" You said through tears.
"(Y / N)?"
You looked around, but you couldn't see anyone.
"Hey."
again, but no one was there to talk to you.
"(Y / N) Wake up."
You opened your eyes in panic. Sweat ran down your body and your plus skyrocketed.
"Everything's fine." Mumbled the voice next to you, carefully wiping a few strands from your face.
"What, was..." you took a deep breath. "Where's Jack? Did he help Boone? ”Was the first thing that crossed your mind.
"Why should he help him?" Asked the voice in a calming tone.
"He, he's going to die, we have to go to him, we ... you have to look for John, he has to tell the truth." You wanted to jump up, but the person behind you held you back.
"He's going to die," you said tearfully as he pulled you into a hug.
“I'm fine, that was just a dream. You have to calm down. ”He said softly.
Immediately you raised your head, actually. Boone sat next to you and tried to calm you down.
"But, but ..." you collected to yourself.
"You were about to die, your leg," you said confused.
"I'm fine," he repeated.
"It was so real," you said desperately.
He kept hugging you until you broke away from him. It was dark outside. "I'm sorry I woke you up and kept you from sleeping," you said softly.
"It´s okay. My sister babbled on me half the night anyway, so I'm grateful for a change, ”he assured you.
“I'm sorry anyway. You should go back to your sleeping place. ”-“ Have you calmed down again? ”He wanted to know.
“I think so, although the dream was different. It was so real, like it really happened, ”you muttered.
"Sometimes these are dreams."
“But it was different, I just can't explain it. Just be careful so that he doesn't get real and even if I like John, you'd better keep your distance from him. ”You didn't know why you said that, but it seemed right to you.
"I will," he said with a laugh.
“I'm serious, he will be to blame for your death. I don't know why or why I'm so sure about it, but I'm sure. ”You explained quietly and again sweat had formed on your forehead.
“Okay, I'll take care of myself. Are you sure I should leave you alone? ”He looked at you uncertainly.
"I would like to ask you to stay here and sleep here, but we hardly know each other and I think I already exceeded my limit when I told you, because of a dream, that you should stay away from John So yes, you can go back," you said with a smile.
"Okay." That was all he said before he moved the bag that served as a pillow to him, took something from the blanket, and lay down.
You stared at him in surprise, you didn't know what to say.
"I'd rather avoid Shannon if that's okay with you."
You both knew he was only saying it so you wouldn't feel like he was staying because of you. You were more than grateful that he stayed with you and didn't want to risk him changing his mind, so you lay down next to him.
"Thank you," you mumbled softly.
"Not for this. I should thank you, after all, you saved my life, ”he joked.
"You died, I couldn't do anything," you said softly and sadly when the images reappeared before your eyes.
"I just wanted to be funny," he said quickly and pulled you to himself without thinking about it.
You didn't say anything yourself either, you laid your head on his chest and listened to his heart beating.
The sound was so calming that you fell asleep shortly afterwards.
