Work Text:
Nile goes running into the apartment. Her father is back and she doesn’t know how much time he is going to stay this time. She wishes he would stay forever.
She goes to her parents room and finds what she is looking for. Her father’s combat boots. She loves them. They are comfortable and make her feel like she could be like him one day.
Nile smells them and smiles at the familiarity of the leather perfume. She puts them on, ties the cords and goes out of the building to keep playing with her dog, Obi.
“Nile!” Her dad calls for her. “What are you doing with my boots?” He asks, as he comes to her side.
“I don’t know, they just magically appeared in my feet”, she plays innocent.
“Really? Do you have magic little Nile?” He wonders, following her game.
“Yes! I’m a powerful wizard”, she says, excited about the idea.
“And what are you going to do with your magic powers?” Is what her father wants to know, with curiosity.
“I’m going to make you stay home”, Nile says, like it should have been obvious. “And I will make you, mom and Amur immortal, so I never have to live without you”, she adds. One of her best friends had lost her mom last month and Nile doesn’t want the same to happen to her. She is scared of it.
Her father hugs her with strength and picks her up from the ground. Nile can feel his tears in her neck, so she hangs on to him with the same strength. She doesn’t want him to be sad.
“What about my boots?” Her dad asks, looking at her right into her eyes.
“I just like them”, Nile says simply and dries his tears with her fingers. “But don’t be sad, I can give them back to you if you want”, she proposes, like it is a great idea that could make him happy again.
“You can keep them”, he says and kisses her forehead. “They look better on you anyway”, Nile smiles at the prize.
“I love you dad”, she says.
“I love you more kid”, he assures.
When Nile is back on the ground, she takes his dad's hand and takes him to play with Obi.
