Chapter Text

“Get away from me, you filthy rat!”

“Rat? Why don’t you take a look at yourself, bitch!”

Lumine and Paimon stop walking as they heard the commotion, sighing internally. Jean, Diluc, and Kaeya were outside their classroom; the other one looked worried, the other looking so done, and the last one smirking as if he was watching some live soap opera. Jean and Kaeya eventually notice the two and waved, while Diluc only grumbled something under his breath. Paimon opened her mouth to talk, but before she could even do so, the door swung open and revealed an agitated Scaramouche.

“Oh yeah?” He looks back at the room, “At least I don’t pronounce archive wrong, dumbass!”

What? Paimon looked at Lumine and the latter facepalmed in response. Just what the hell is happening now? It’s only nine in the morning yet they’re already starting? Scaramouche raised his middle finger and turned around to walk away, but a book came flying straight to his head. The impact was so strong Lumine swore she heard his neck crack. Jean gasps at this and tries to come closer, but Diluc and Kaeya held her at place. The indigo-haired boy picked up the book and started laughing, making Paimon hide behind Lumine because of how creepy the boy looked.

“Has he gone mad?” She whispers.

The blonde nudges her using her shoulder, “Shush, Paimon.”

“You’ll pay for this, Megistus,” He says as he shook the poor book in the air, “You hear me? I’ll kick your flat ass out of this school!”

Mona laughed out loud, “You’ll pay for this, Megistus—I’ll pay you, alright. So you can fix that rotting attitude of yours!”

Scaramouche stormed off, muttering curses under his breath. The others took that as a cue to go inside; Mona was on her seat as if she didn’t yell her lungs out earlier and probably scuffled with their other classmate. Sucrose and Amber looked traumatized, Lisa was smirking for some unknown reason—it was chaotic. They’re lucky the professor wasn’t here yet, or else they’d probably need to make up a reason just so they don’t have to go to the guidance office (like before).

Lumine walked towards Mona, “What the hell happened this time?”

“He came in acting like he’s some sort of God,” She scoffs, “Ah, maybe he is! He’s probably the God of ugliness—have you seen his horrendous haircut?”

The blonde turned to look at Jean and the latter sighed, waving her hand and mouthing something about leaving Mona alone for a while. Lumine hesitated but their professor arrived, so she made her way to her seat. The whole class greeted Mr. Zhongli, their history teacher. He nods in response and calmly places some stack of paper on the table. Were they supposed to have a quiz today? Fuck, she forgot to study because she ended up binge-watching movies with Paimon last night. Before Zhongli could talk, however, the door swung open and revealed a grumpy looking Scaramouche with the principal behind him.

“Ah,” Zhongli casually says as if it was an everyday occurrence. “Come in, Scaramouche.”

The latter does indeed step in and head towards his seat as their professor went out to have a talk with the principal. Probably to apologize on Scaramouche’s behalf. The room was quiet; they were all eyeing him silently—until Mona snorted. Loud. Then she burst out laughing while struggling to say that she can’t. Scaramouche whipped his head towards the girl and shot her a glare, to which Mona just continued to laugh at. Lumine buried her face in her palms and groaned. She can’t wait for lunch to come.

--

Lunch was worse.

Mona sat across her and she’s been glaring at her ever since they got their food. Gods, give me the patience to not smack my friend right now, Lumine took a deep breath before taking a bite from her tuna sandwich. Just when she was about to comment about how good her food is, Scaramouche appeared out of nowhere and tugged one of Mona’s pigtails, the latter grabbing his arm and almost banging the boy’s head against the table if he didn’t manage to escape her grip.

“What the hell is your problem?!” She shrieked.

Scaramouche snorted, “You’re so ugly, Megistus.”

“I’m giving you five seconds before I stab you in the eye.” Mona grabbed her plastic fork and was SO ready to stab him, but he already ran away.

She just transferred here weeks ago and now she’s sandwiched between to people who are always on each other’s necks. Jean said that they’ve always been like that—since middle school. Always trying to prove the other wrong, fighting about anything (even the littlest things), shoving middle fingers at each other’s faces—it would probably take Lumine a whole day if she tried to list down every single thing that Jean told her.

Lumine looked at her sandwich and she suddenly wants to cry.

--

“I wonder what useless shit are we about to learn today,” Scaramouche sighed as he looked at Venti, their music teacher.

“You know,” The latter says with a smile, “I figured out an activity to give you guys today!”

The auditorium was filled with murmurs.

“What is it, Sir?” Jean replies.

“Drumrolls, please!” Venti said before making drumroll sounds.

Scaramouche snorted, “He looks so—”

“I want you guys to sing for me!”
