Work Text:
Joonho shrunk in on himself as Lee Dongsik's hands slammed on the table separating them.
"Are you sure, young man?" he asked Joonho, voice barely above a whisper.
The officer's eyes were sharp, set on him and Joonho shuddered, not answering at first and then shaking his head, too tense to form a proper sentence.
Silence stretched for one, two, five, a dozen beats. Joonho's shoulders were touching his ears now.
"You're not sure you want to take my baby on a date? Really?" The threat in Dongsik’s voice was unmistakable.
Joonho opened trembling lips "Sir, I-"
"Doll, what are you even doing?"
Joonho almost jumped out of his skin, looking at the two ways mirror. In front of him, Dongsik let out a loud sigh.
"Don't you dare butting in, inspector."
Joonho waited but against all hopes, the deep voice didn't react and Joonho wished he could be changed into a mouse to escape in the smallest hole possible.
"Back to you, my young friend."
The man's smile almost felt deranged, sending more chills down Joonho's spine.
"Sir, I swear I-" Joonho started begging, watching as Dongsik circled around the table.
Dongsik spun the chair Joonho sat on, caging him with his hands on the armrests.
"So where-"
The conversation got cut once more as the door to the interrogation room swung open on a tall, handsome man who didn't give Dongsik the modicum of a chance, grabbing him by the back of his collar.
"Inspector! Inspector Han! Juwon-ah...!" Dongsik fought to stay upright on his tiptoes, or else risking dying of strangulation given the force apparently applied, trying to turn around. "Ju- Wait, blossom wait!"
The other man, Han Juwon, whose name Joonho recognised to be Hyejin's second father, dragged Dongsik out the door.
"You're not supposed to intimidate our daughter's partner. it's bad parenting."
"Han Juwon!" Dongsik sounded really offended, a bit pouty maybe. "Hyejin-ah and I have a deal!"
"That doesn't help your case, doll." Juwon tried sounding stern but the petname nullified any attempt to. "That's worse actually."
Their voices and footsteps receded as they went down the corridor.
Joonho relaxed only to jump once more as a face appeared, leaning in the doorframe. Joonho remembered him as Hyejin's uncle, Jihoon was it?
"You're free to go." he said, smiling. Joonho couldn't decide if it was happily, dumbly or creepily.
Joonho didn't stay to ask or verify though. He walked through the small station in big strides, relieved to leave. Until an arm blocked his path, right when he was reaching the front door, palm slamming flat next to his face on the wall.
"Be nice to Hyejin-ah, uh?"
The woman staring down at him was beautiful and Joonho remembered dropping Hyejin in front of her butcher's shop. Joonho nodded stiffly.
Juwon's voice came, loud and annoyed, from the small parking "Jaeyi noona! Not you too!"
Later, running home like he was chased by a ghost, Joonho promised himself to go ask Han Juwon what flowers Hyejin preferred before to take her on a date.
