Work Text:

“I know it’s in here somewhere, kitten.”

Felicia grunts as she stands on her tip toes, barefooted and wearing a comfortable white “I love New York” t-shirt with black tights. Her white hair was pulled back into a messy ponytail. Stretching just a bit more she pulls out another box, it’s full of more jewels, rubies this time, they sparkle prettily and she barely pauses as she shuts the lid and tosses it on top of the pile that has accumulated by her feet. Moving aside another box, she finds the one she is looking for. Pulling it down carefully she steps out of her large closet and goes back into her bedroom. It was decorated in all white, her bed, the vanity, everything seemed to have come straight out of a catalogue, it felt too clinical and clean, she preferred it that way. She would be moving again soon, and it was better not to add her touch to things until she moved. Her plans had to be changed rapidly due to some old enemies putting a hit out on her. So Felicia had to change her plans to keep ahead of them.

She crosses the room with her box and sets it on her bed, before turning to the crib that stood beside it. A small infant boy lay swaddled in a white blanket, brown hair that matched her own natural hair color peeks out from under a white cap. She traces his cheek with a finger before turning back to her box. Opening it, she takes a few quiet moments to look through it; old newspaper clippings, a polaroid of Felicia and Peter in bed, one he had taken while she had been sleeping, snuggled into his chest. A soft sad smile plays on her lips as she traces Peter’s cheek. She sets it back before digging further into the box. A small clear plastic ziploc bag appears, and she lets out a small sound of victory, pulling it out she opens it to dump out it’s contents. Small spider tracers pile up. They were all deactivated long ago but she had kept every single one.

Gathering them she sits on the floor, her back to her bed and pulls out the bag full of materials and sets to work. It takes a few hours, she probably shouldn't have started this project at midnight but she was used to being up late so she doesn’t mind. Listening to Walter’s soft breathing and the sounds of the city from her New York apartment was soothing background noise as her fingers worked ceaselessly until she was done.

She groans a bit and slowly works out the kinks in her legs, stretching them, she really shouldn't have sat so still for so long. Felicia attaches the device to Walter’s crib and flicks the battery powered mobile on.

"There we go Kitten."

It moves smoothly, and emits a soft musical note lullaby from the tiny speaker. The Spider tracers move in a circle and blink in time to the song.

Felicia crosses her arms along the railing, sets her chin on them and leans against the crib watching it move. Each tracer had a story and the memories replay in her mind as the night passes. Walter sleeps on.
