Spoiling the cat

Summary:

Peter and Elias' cat, Ms. Titch joins them for breakfast. Prompt: humanity.

Work Text:

Ms. Titch used to be the ship’s cat on the Tundra before that she’d lived on the docks. She was an  old, scarred, scowling calico with one ear (her left) and poison green eyes. She disliked most people, luckily her owners were not people. Today she woke up late jumped off the end of Peter’s bed, and made her way into the dining room.

Elias smiled when he saw her: “Well, look who decided to join us.”

She gave an irritated meow, long drawn out syllables as if she understood exactly what had been said.

Peter looked up from the paper, and grinned: “She’s only here for the food Elias.”

Elias rolled his eyes. “You’re only half right, isn’t true Muffin?”

He scooted his chair away from the breakfast table and patted his lap, she gave another series of deep meows and jumped up on his lap. Elias settled one hand into her warm fur on her back and scooted his chair back. He gave contented humm..

“She’s my cat Elias,” Peter said, breaking off a crispy piece of bacon to tempt her off Elias’s lap. Ms. Titch sat purring.

Ms. Titch craned her head far enough then took a paw and swiped at the bacon, Peter let it drop and she snatched and started munching.

“Really?” “Elias gave her another pet. “She sleeps on your bed all night, you see her all day, and yet you want to lure her away from me?”

Elias was scratching her head, with his other hand he fed her bits of kipper. She ate it lapping at his fingers  with a rough tongue, purring loudly.

Peter sighed: “Very well, I’m just imagining what your employees would think if they saw this.”

“They’d find it endearing, it would make them underestimate me,” Elias said. “Isn’t that right, Muffin?”

Ms. Titch closed her eyes happily and kneaded his lap.

Peter shook his head grinning. “Alright Luv.”

He took a piece of toast, and tossed Ms. Titch a bit of sausage.

She blinked slowly at him and then gobbled it down. He sighed happily, yes let them underestimate  them, all of them. Humanity wasn’t a weakness, just another layer.
