Chapter Text
Nia found herself In a dark cavern. The walls having what looked to be vines or ivy crawling up the sides. Torches hung along the walls illuminating the small chamber. The only thing in the room was a table, and on it an old wheighing scale.
Left of the scale sat coins or more accuretly tokens and to the right a heart made of what looks to be metal. Gears decorated the heart with what looks to be steam pipes acting as the arteries and scrawled across the middle read one word, no, one name, Brainy.
Before Nia could process what the heart said she found herself picking it up and setting it on the right side of the scale. Naturally the scale tipped towards the right. Then as it by magic one of the tokens starts to float and land on the left side. On this token, Nia notices is a ship, a sailboat to be exact. The scale starts to tip but the heart is still heavier. For some reason this fills Nia with relief. Then just as before another token floats up from the right and lands on the scale. This token has on it a cluster of crystals. From the image Nia couldn’t regonize which gemstone it could be but as she was contemplating the scale tipped forward once again almost balancing out the scale but Brainy’s heart being the slightest bit heavier.
The heart suddenly starts to shake. Forming across the a and i in Brainy’s name, a crack starts to flow and emitting a Grey energy. Not knowing what this means, Nia suddenly feels unnerved. Finally, one last token floats towards the scale. This time Nia tries to grab it but it is a though the token has a mind of its own and keeps dodging Nia until it lands softly on the scale. On this token stands a bottle.
A wave of fear hits Nia as the scale suddenly tips, a lot faster than before. As the left side of the scale lands Nia notices the heart crakes forming in the metal. From those crakes a grey energy starts to radiate. First tiny then grows and grows until the heart explodes with a wave of grey energy.
Nia braces for cover. As the energy seems to flow around her she catches sight of more tokens, more then ever, but these tokens filled Nia with confidence. These coins, Nia noticed had lots of different images.
One with a masquerade mask, one with a heart and one with a ray of light and one with a box on it. Daisy, pillow, ring, infinity. Each token getting into position into the shape of a circle, forming a force field around Nia. Then after a moment, one final token comes into view and goes to the middle of the force field. This one has a bandaid and looked to be a lot bigger then the others. This token started spinning, attracting the other tokens inward. As the bandaid token spins faster and faster, it seems to be absorbing the others.
As the process ends and the light is fading what comes out of it is a ring. A silver ring with a light blue and purple gem studded on top. On it were symbols Nia instantly recognized, her signature swierl and Brainy’s three dots connected. It was their symbols mixed into one. Then the gem started to glow. The glow is so big and bright that it engulfs all of Nia in a soft ray of lavender light.

It was a normal day in central city. The sun was about to set and the night was coming in. People were returning from their work and going home to their loved ones. A peaceful day for Dreamer and Brainy to patrol the city with no crime. As they were going through the city Brainy couldn’t help focus on his partner. The wind in her hair, the way her face glistened in the sun.
“Looks like we have only a few blocks left then we can go to dinner, “ Nia says as she looks at her boyfriend with a wide grin. That smile, that smile is what made Brainy the happiest. The way her eyes lit up with that shade of brown and how her teeth just shined. It also made Brainy happy to know that Nia was happy being with him. After everything that happened, Brainy didn’t think he deserved a second chance, but Nia saved him and made him feel like he always belonged with her, no matter what and he wasn’t going to let her go again.
Suddenly both hero’s hear a boom in the distance. The wind starts to pick up and over the horizon they could see a wave of grey matter coming into view. It quickly moved towards them at a rate that they couldn’t dodge. “Brainy!” Nia yells before she pulls him close to her covering him while leaving her back exposed to the energy. Just like that the wave hits Nia directly. As the wave moves on Nia moves back “Nia, are you ok?” Brainy asked full of concern. “I,” Nia starts but as she does her legs and her whole body start to crumble into dust and just like that Nia is gone. “No, no, no,“ Brainy yells as he goes towards the dust.
Then the scene changes. Brainy is suddenly at the tower in front of the rest of the super friends. “I’m sorry,” Brainy finds himself saying. “You let this happen,” says a screaming Alex. “It’s all your fault, you should have protected her,” screams Lena. As the friends walk out. Kara says one thing that stings then any other. “It should have been you”. Kara says this so cold but Brainy could tell she meant every word. The scene turns black with only Brainy drowning in his fears and regrets.
Nia awakes with a start. “Ahh,” Nia says as she sits up. Filled with fear and concern for her boyfriend she immediately looks to Brainy’s side of the bed. There he sat sound asleep. Nia took a moment to admire him. He looked so cute when he sleeps Nia thinks calming down from her nightmare.
Suddenly Brainy starts to shake. “No No No,” Brainy starts to say, still asleep. “I’m sorry. “ He starts to yell louder. Filled with fear again and worries that her dream might be more, Nia tries to wake Brainy. “Brainy wake up,” Nia says while shaking Brainy awake. “NIA!!!!”
Brainy springs to life. Brainy hastily looks toward his girlfriend and and immediately starts to calm down but still shaking an expression of fear still lingering on his face. “You we’re having a nightmare wildcat,”Nia starts. “It looked pretty bad, What were you dreaming about?” Brainy thinks for a minute then with a frown looks at his girlfriend. “You kept apolologizing and we’re afraid of something, is everything alright wildcat?”
“It was a nightmare,” Brainy started. “You and I were on patrol then from out of nowhere a wave of grey came straight for us.” This catches Nia’s attention. “Go on,“ says Nia wanting to hear the rest and not mentioning her dream just yet. “At the last moment you stepped in front to protect me,” a tear starts to form on Brainy’s cheek. “You turned into dust. Then it changes, I’m in front of our friends and they are saying it’s my fault that you died because of me.”
Nia pulls Brainy into her, having his head on her chest. “That will never happen Brainy,” Nia says as she rocks Brainy back and forth trying to calm him. “ I’m still here and I’m not going anywhere.” At that moment, Nia thought she should tell Brainy about her dream but as she saw her love on the brink of a meltdown all she could do was just to keep him close and to sooth him. “Nothing is gonna hurt me,“ Nia says to reassure Brainy. “I can’t lose you again,” says Brainy between sobs. “You never will lose me wildcat,” Nia said and this was the truth.
Ever since they had saved Kara from the phantom zone, and the team was trying to locate the totems, things have been quiet and that gave time for Brainy and Nia to fully get back into their relationship. Brainy was more open with Nia and he had gotten better control over his emotions (with less stress eating, much to Nia’s delight) and being right next to Nia, being able to sleep right next to her and watch her beautiful peaceful face before he went to sleep made him the happiest he ever thought possible for him so Nia was going to make sure that she stayed by Brainy and protect him, even from a dream that hopefully was only that, a dream.
