The main issue without Maya or Pearls being around the office - excluding the crippling loneliness - was there was no one to manage Phoenix’s time for him and remind him that oh god you’ve got court in five minute!! Instead, that fell onto him, and Phoenix found himself running way later than usual. There were like three minutes or less until court and nobody to help him stuff papers and evidence into his backpack and go speeding down the streets on his bike. At least he didn’t have to worry about Pearls falling from the front basket or Maya tumbling off the back, but rushing was much more fun with someone else to panic with.
The reason Phoenix was running late wasn’t even related to the court case or his client. Instead, it was… Edgeworth… Phoenix’s mind had decided it was a great idea to think about how the man had chartered a plane (Larry told him the truth - in the country, my ass, Miles.) for him and willingly stood in his place during court, going as far as wearing Phoenix’s badge which the defence attorney admitted looked much nicer on Edgeworth than it didn’t himself. He had offered to pay for Phoenix’s medical bills and taken the group of them to dinner after everything, then drove the girls to Kurain and Phoenix back to his apartment.
Phoenix could really see how his friend had changed, and honesty? It was the most attractive thing Phoenix could even think of. Sure, he’d had a crush on Edgeworth for about forever , but seeing Edgeworth grow from his Demon Prosecutor persona to who he was now, a better man who strived for finding the truth, a man who was going to therapy and eating better and all around becoming the best version of him? Gorgeous.
There was no getting Edgeworth off his mind, the man even appearing in his dreams, which typically ended much more NSFW than anything else of late. Phoenix felt like a hormonal teenage, having wet dreams over his best friend, who he was sure didn’t like him back the same way. It was a mess.
A silly little (massive) crush that was even disrupting Phoenix’s already hectic life, and now he was extra late for court and the Judge was going to kill him, the prosecution too, and probably his client for accidentally getting them jailed. All because he was a hopeless bisexual in love with the most beautiful man Phoenix had ever laid eyes on and Phoenix had met Christian Borle and Ewan McGregor in person , so that was saying a lot about how attractive Edgeworth was.
Anyway, Phoenix was late, nothing new, and thankfully there was no one about. Except, unfortunately, it was also raining, which was why no one was about. And Phoenix couldn’t have his umbrella up as he rode his bike, and his coat couldn't only keep out so much rain water. He hoped and prayed that the trial wouldn’t start as soon as he got there, hoping to at least have some time to dry and no longer look like a soaked hedgehog in blue. Luckily, his bag was the one thing that was waterproof and all his papers and such would be fine even if the rain was soaking through to his underwear.
Phoenix doubted Edgeworth had this problem, never late in his fancy, murder scene sports car that drove way too fast and definitely took corners on two wheels instead of four. Edgeworth wouldn’t have to get his expensive suit even the slightest bit wet, with his vehicle keeping him dry and then bailiffs carrying around his umbrella for him ( seriously! It was like prosecutors were royalty or something ) as Edgeworth sauntered his way into the courtroom, not even a drop of rain on his neck napkins. He wouldn't even be late, because Edgeworth didn’t rely on a nine-year-old girl to tell him what the time was because he was too busy thinking about his rival in his underwear.
The only reprieve Phoenix had from this nightmare was that Edgeworth wasn’t the prosecutor he was up against - it was just Payne and Phoenix could take the “Rookie Killer’s” taunts and laughs more than Edgeworth’s scrutinous gaze, which would surely make Phoenix feel a little hot and bothered and distracted for the rest of the trial. That is what Edgeworth did to him, even his stupidly sexy sharkish grin and nerdy bow from behind the prosecution's bench was an absolute turn on. Edgeworth was far too handsome for his own good, and one of these days it was going to kill Phoenix.
Phoenix’s thoughts were completely on Edgeworth and everything about the prosecutor when his bike collided with something solid. He hadn’t been paying attention at all and one moment Phoenix was pedalling on his bike across an empty driveway and then the next he was rolling over someone’s car boot and dropping down hard on the wet concrete right into a puddle. The thud of his bike smacking into the vehicle, then his body tumbling over it like a rag doll, was loud and almost comedic, but Phoenix hardly thought about that when his head went thunk on the metal boot. There was no hurt feeling for a moment, only utter surprise and shock before a high amount of pain hit Phoenix right in the arm and head, while his body went cold thanks to the unwavering rain and the surrounding puddle.
"Buggar- shit-" There were footsteps and a car door slamming shut, a voice Phoenix vaguely recognised through the shocked haze, cursing to themselves, until he heard- "Wright?!"
The downed attorney lifted his head from the floor, looking toward the passenger’s side of the vehicle, surprised to see the one and only Miles Edgeworth standing there, pink suit and grey hair slowly becoming more wet by the second as the prosecutor stared back at him in shock.
“Uh...hey, Edgeworth?” Phoenix replied, not really sure of what to say. Of course, the car Phoenix had to hit into was carrying him! The gods and whoever above absolutely hated him, they were cruel and mean and apparently thought this all a joke because how was Phoenix supposed to seduce Edgeworth when the man would only look at him and remember the time when Phoenix rolled over a car trunk like a dumbass and ended up lying in a large puddle.
Phoenix cursed the driver, wondering who was that blind that they didn’t see him before they decided to back out of their driveway with Miles Edgeworth in their passenger set when Phoenix realised that Edgeworth’s car was European. The passenger’s side was actually the driver’s. Edgeworth has been the one driving, he’d been the one to back right into Phoenix who had been oncoming with his bike.
Miles Edgeworth had hit Phoenix with his car and now they both stood drenched and the latter clutching his definitely broken arm with his bike all banged up and looking depressed on the sidewalk.
Phoenix paled, he hoped he hadn’t left any sort of dent in the prosecutor’s car.
Seemingly getting over his shock, Edgeworth rushed the short distance from his door to Phoenix’s side, kneeling in the puddle and ruining the knees of his suit to Phoenix’s dismay (he really likes Edgeworth’s suits) with his hand’s hovering over Phoenix.
“Jesus Christ- Wright-” Edgeworth breathed out in shock, grey eyes wide and searching over Phoenix’s form. Fingertips grazed across Phoenix’s shoulder, just a little touch, but it was warmer than anything and Phoenix felt his useless, overly-romantic heart flip as if the situation wasn’t more serious. It was nothing more than a graze!
“What are you- A-Are you alright?” Edgeworth asked, briefly brushing the soaked hair from his face in a way Phoenix wanted to (NOT the time, Phoenix!) so he could focus on him better. Phoenix, distracted by the man above him, didn’t register his question for a moment until Edgeworth’s fingers touched his cheek - the same warm feeling hitting and jolting Phoenix’s heart.
“Um… I think so? Maybe not…” Phoenix muttered, trying to think about anything else except the physical touch on his face. He shifted slightly, the pain flaring in his arm reminding Phoenix that he was hurt and cluing him onto the pulsing headache he now sported. Swallowing thickly and looking up into Edgeworth’s eyes, Phoenix tried not to blush as he spoke. “My arm and head hurt.”
“Your arm and your head…” Miles parroted, gaze falling down to Phoenix’s arm, which Phoenix held to his chest. “Okay, it could be broken. You did hit the car quite hard.”
“Uhuh…” Was all Phoenix could say, mind still not in the right place - whether that was from hitting it or his own dumbass crush for Edgeworth - as Edgeworth’s hands moved to gently cup his head, very carefully moving it to obviously check for signs of injury or blood. Just the feeling of Edgeworth’s hands on him was too much for Phoenix’s tiny brain to comprehend, just thinking OhfuckMilesEdgeworthistouchingmeohfuck and I’msogayjesuschristkillmenow and his heart rate was speeding up against his will when Edgeworth’s touches were nothing beyond innocent.
“Let’s get you up.” Edgeworth suggested.
“Uhuh.” Phoenix nodded, mouth going dry as Edgeworth hooks his arms under Phoenix’s own, mindful of his injury, and began to lift him up. That really set off Phoenix’s gay panic, hand grasping onto Edgeworth’s wet suit and dying as the man manoeuvred him easily, like he was nothing more than a bag of flour. To make things worse, Edgeworth didn’t let go of him when Phoenix was successfully back on two feet, albeit a little wobbly, the prosecutor’s arm winding around his waist like nothing . Phoenix’s breath caught in his throat and he was led around to the passenger’s side of the car, feeling all too many inappropriate feelings, while his friend was simply just trying to aid him.
“I’ll take you to the hospital, your arm needs checking out.” Edgeworth informed him after his bike was somehow stuffed into the car boot, no doubt broken from his little collision on the way to the courthouse.
The trial!
“No!” Phoenix exclaimed when he realised. “I can’t-”
“Why ever not?” Edgeworth scoffed from his seat, looking at Phoenix for a moment before starting up the engine and carefully backing out into the main road. “If it’s money you’re worried about, I will not have you skipping out on treatment, I’ll pay.”
“No- oh god…” Phoenix’s heart was doing somersaults now. Edgeworth was going to pay his medical bills again. That was not something normal friends do, and that was not something Phoenix could allow Edgeworth to do without kissing him silly and possibly taking him to bed. Not brave enough to voice those kinds of thoughts though, Phoenix instead said without really thinking, “why are you so nice…”
Even in his weird, bisexual panicked and hurt haze, Phoenix saw the blush that painted Edgeworth’s cheeks and ears red, comprehending what he had just told his friend and only just managing to hold back from stuffing his fist into his mouth and knock his head against the dashboard until he was dead. Phoenix was concussed or something, honestly… there was no excuse for his stupidity except that, surely?
“But no-” Phoenix hurried to say, not wanting to make things awkward and risk being thrown out knot the rain soaked road and abandoned in haste. “I have a client- the trial is in-” the attorney checked his watch - thankfully undamaged, just a bit wet- and his eyes widened, bulging out of his head as he read the time. “ Ten minutes ago!”
“Ah, I see.” Edgeworth coughed, still red from Phoenix’s earlier slip of the tongue, keeping his eyes fixed on the road in front of the windscreen wipers worked from left-to-right, to right-to-left, brushing the rain off the front screen, so he could see where they were going. Edgeworth must had turned the heating on as well, as warmth blasted itself onto Phoenix’s body, which he hadn’t noticed was shivering until now. It was nice, comforting almost.
“I will inform Gumshoe of this...incident,” Edgeworth explained and Phoenix gulped, another person who would know of Phoenix’s embarrassing accident - at least it wasn’t Maya or Franziska. Although, the shame of Gumshoe knowing wasn’t enough to stop Phoenix from resting his head on the side of the door, doing his best to get comfortable as the heating and the lull of the car’s motions helped him relax. “And he’ll have to tell the judge to postpone the trial for now.”
“Oh… thank you, Miles.” Phoenix replied, sleepier than he expected to be, and he didn’t even realise he’d used Edgeworth’s first name, nor did he notice the way the prosecutor looked at him dumbstruck.
Phoenix was asleep, cradling his arm and nursing a headache, before they’d even made it four blocks down.
When Phoenix finally got released from the hospital, his arm now in a pink (for no reason whatsoever) coloured cast around his right forearm, a collection of painkillers, and orders to rest and warm up once he got back. Everything was alright, his head injury was nothing serious and his broken arm would heal easily over the next six to eight weeks. Only, Edgeworth was still around him. The prosecutor had stayed the whole time, sticking by Phoenix as the doctor checked his arm, it got x-rayed, and then put in a cast. He’d been a great moral support and even better company, even if Phoenix’s heart (not his brain, because that wasn’t working) kept screaming about the fact Miles Edgeworth was right there.
Edgeworth’s concern was sweet and greatly appreciated, but Phoenix hadn’t expected him to stay, let along bring him home, and then stay with him to cook food.
Phoenix had had his food cooked for him by the Miles Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth was standing in his shitty little kitchen, wearing some of Phoenix’s casual clothes as his were soaked, and washing up their plates like they were some domestic couple. Phoenix’s hopelessly romantic brain was going haywire when that thought had crossed it, and Phoenix couldn’t think about anything else. He couldn’t see Edgeworth from where he sat on his tatty sofa, which was probably a blessing, otherwise he’d be staring at the man, but he knew Edgeworth was in there.
The universe was being cruel again, shoving what Phoenix wanted in his face before yanking it just out of his reach.
“Wright,” Phoenix turned at Edgeworth’s voice, the prosecutor standing in the doorway to the kitchen, sleeves rolled up to reveal pale forearms and shirt baggy on him. Phoenix was sure he must have looked like the personification of that heart-eyed emoji thing as he looked at his friend. “I’ve done the washing up, everything is just draining. I think I’ll head out now, unless you need me for anything else?”
“Uh no- no,” Phoenix stammered, brain struggling to catch up. “Thanks though, Edgeworth.”
“It’s the least I could do.” Edgeworth smiled softly, just the briefest of curls of his lips that left Phoenix unbelievable breathless. “I’ll wash and bring round your clothes tomorrow, goodnight Wright”
“Goodnight-” Phoenix replied, hoping not to sound too disappointed that the prosecutor was leaving already. It really was nice to have some company again since the girls had return to Kurain. He didn’t look forward to spending the rest of the evening alone, but asking Edgeworth to stay seemed out of the question, weird almost. Why would Edgeworth even want to stay, he’d be around Phoenix for long enough, right? He must have been getting bored with his company.
Yet, even with those thoughts in mind, Phoenix got out of his seat to stop Edgeworth from leaving just yet. “Actually, wait! There is something- can we- I’d like to talk for a moment?”
Edgeworth looked surprised by the request, grey eyes watching Phoenix as if they were waiting for the offer to be redacted or something, before Edgeworth nodded. “O-Okay.” A relief washed over the defence attorney, and he shot Edgeworth a small smile before sitting back down, Edgeworth following suit with his back straight and posture perfect compared to Phoenix’s old man hunch. Wiping his palm on his thigh, Phoenix shifted his position twice before he found the courage to talk, unfairly nervous as Edgeworth looked at him.
He could still feel the man’s hands on his face, checking his head, or arms around him, helping him up. Phoenix wanted to feel that again, both of them naked, in bed, doing-
Stop.
“First, uh... I-I wanna thank you for what you did. Anyone else and they could’ve just driven off,” Phoenix said. “But you stayed at the hospital, took me home, and even cooked for me. It was nice.”
“Oh-” Edgeworth began, almost sounding disappointed, like he was expecting something else, but Phoenix shrugged it off as hopefully thinking from himself. “Well, I couldn’t just have left you there. It would have been classed as a hit-and-run, I could have lost my licence.”
That made Phoenix laugh, falling back against the sofa and covering his face with his free hand until he calmed down and turned to Edgeworth, who looked like someone had just asked him to strip or something.
“Yes, of course. You only stayed because of the threat of losing your licence, not because you care about me.” Phoenix remarked, trying to contain his laughter, while Edgeworth’s face morphed into absolute horror.
“Wright!” Edgeworth exclaimed, looking like he was about to lay out how that wasn’t what he meant, using a five bullet point list and PowerPoint presentation. Trying to hide a laugh behind a cough, Edgeworth scowled at him, realising that Phoenix wasn’t at all serious in his previous claims. “Ngh- ugh, you’re teasing me, aren’t you?”
“Perhaps.” Phoenix shrugged with a wink.
“You’re a bastard.”
“Ouch, way to kick a man while he’d injured.”
“Hush.” Edgeworth glared, one that would have anyone trembling and crying under, except Phoenix was immune to them at this point. “Is that all you wished to say?” Edgeworth then asked after Phoenix managed to settle, though there was a small smile on his lips and the glare gone completely, which showed the prosecutor wasn’t too mad about it.
“No. I uh-” Phoenix rubbed at the back of his neck, a littler nervous laugh accompanying his self soothing gesture.
“Sorry if I’ve left any marks on your car, Edgeworth… I- I’ll pay for the repairs.” Phoenix nervously suggested, even though he felt the pang of dread in his stomach at the idea of footing any bills. His wallet and bank account was struggling enough as it was.
“Pay?” Edgeworth asked, sounding outraged, and Phoenix clamped his mouth shut. “You buffoon- why would I expect you to pay, when I hit you?!”
“I um...” Phoenix struggled to answer, having not really thought of that.
“Wright, you idiot.” Edgeworth sighed, fingers pinching at the bridge of his nose. He supposed the man was right, he was an idiot. Edgeworth then shifted closer, a hand dropping down to touch Phoenix’s thigh, which had the attorney in fight or flight mode. The gesture was definitely supposed to be comforting, but Phoenix’s brain was an ultimate traitor, and he couldn’t think about anything else but the contact and where he wished that hand would go.
“That being said, I must apologise profusely for hitting you with my car, Wright.” Edgeworth said in all seriousness, pulling Phoenix from his panicked-bisexual thoughts. He looked up from the hand on his thigh, finding a sincere look in Edgeworth’s eyes that could have knocked the breath out of Phoenix if he hadn’t done that several hours ago already. “I was… well, I was running late to my own trial - something that never happens - and I thought both the road and path was clear when I back out only to hear a loud thunk and then there was you, on the floor in a puddle.”
Edgeworth paused for a moment, taking a breath, and Phoenix found himself caught in some sort of hold, feeling like the stereotypical heterosexual female in a very typical romance tale when the also typical heterosexual male confessed something deep and emotional. However, neither of them were typical or heterosexual, nor in a romance movie. Edgeworth was just apologising for hitting him with his car and here Phoenix was, freaking out over a silly crush and expecting things to happen that weren’t going to because the situation just wasn’t that.
“I truly am sorry, Wright, I never intended- you’ve just recovered from Hazakura Temple and what occurred there, I don’t wish to inflict further pain on yourself.”
“Oh…” Responded Phoenix, having not expected Edgeworth to be so serious. He wasn’t sure his heart could take much more, the prosecutor was already being so nice to him. Phoenix really didn’t want to cry today, especially not in front of Edgeworth after already embarrassing himself earlier. Finding his voice again, Phoenix tried to act somewhat cool and collected. “Well, it’s alright, Edgeworth. I’m fine, really. Just a broken arm and a minor concussion, that’s all.” Deciding to end with a joke to ease the mood into something light, Phoenix laughed as he said, “at least I’m not dead out on the streets or crushed under your car wheels.”
Except, it didn’t have the intended reaction back from Edgeworth. He looked nauseated by the joke, hand leaving Phoenix thigh to instead choke the inside of his elbow.
“Ngh...Wright- don’t- you shouldn’t say such thing.” Edgeworth reproached, an unsteadiness to his voice that had Phoenix feeling guilty.
“You’re right…” Said Phoenix, ducking his head and picking at the loose fabric on his sweatpants. “Sorry, Edgeworth.”
A slightly awkward silence bubbled between them before Miles turned his body further towards Phoenix, prompting Phoenix into looking up again and catching his gaze.
“I do feel really bad about hitting you.” Edgeworth stressed, like he didn’t think Phoenix believed him. Phoenix did, of course he did. He’d believe anything Edgeworth told him.
“I know, but it’s okay.” Phoenix assured him, following suit and turning his body closer to Edgeworth. Their knees knocked gently. “I’m okay, we’re good.”
“Yes… I suppose we are.” Edgeworth agreed and Phoenix smiled at him, hoping that they would be good. He’d hate for Edgeworth to carry unnecessary guilt with him. He hadn’t blamed Edgeworth for the accident once, and he didn’t want his friend drowning in that sort of guilt - it wouldn’t help anyone.
“Phoenix…” Edgeworth began, and if Phoenix thought he was having a gay panic before, well he was wrong. This was the gay panic, hearing his first name said so softly by Edgeworth’s tongue and lips, in his own home, with the man wearing his clothes and sitting so close.
A cold hand - yet so warm somehow - came to rest over Phoenix’s, light but most certainly there, very mindful of his cast, and Phoenix stared down at them, unsure whether he was really seeing things until his attention was directed elsewhere when Edgeworth’s free hand rose up to cup Phoenix’s cheek. Phoenix couldn’t breathe, unsure of what was going on but doing nothing to stop or stall it, leaning into the cold palm against his skin. All he could do was watch Edgeworth’s beautiful grey eyes as the man leaned in hesitantly before finding some sort of courage somehow and pressed his chapstick-slick lips against Phoenix’s chapped ones.
It was the softest kiss Phoenix had ever had, very tentative and careful, like kissing any harder or with any confidence would break one or both of them. Phoenix felt himself sigh into the kiss, leaning into it a little more while his uninjured arm moved, fingers curling around the soft fabric of Edgeworth’s sleeve, holding him in place but wanting him closer. His eyes fell shut at some point, melting entirely, while Edgeworth’s lips moved against his. The prosecutor tasted sweet, Phoenix had seen him dump a whole fifteen teaspoons of sugar into his tea earlier, and Phoenix revelled in it. The Demon Prosecutor with soft lips and a sweet tooth.
Long fingers moved to brush over the short hairs that made up Phoenix’s sideburns, blunt nails scraping lightly across his skin, which sent a delightful tingling feeling down the attorney’s spine. Phoenix allowed himself to swipe his tongue across Edgeworth’s bottom lip, asking without words and surely, Edgeworth opened up his mouth, letting Phoenix’s tongue explore more of the sugary taste that covered Edgeworth’s mouth. In return, Edgeworth pressed the kiss a little harder, one leg slipping between Phoenix’s as he moved closer.
Phoenix found himself getting lost in the kiss, even his brain and heart had fallen silent, too overwhelmed by the fact he was kissing Miles Edgeworth to even freak out over it. He had absolutely no idea where this had come from, but Phoenix wasn’t complaining one bit, drinking in everything. Even as his lungs began to demand air, Phoenix was hesitant to pull away, not wanting the spell to break and for Edgeworth to realise his mistake, run away and never come back again. He wanted things to stay as they were.
Only, Edgeworth had other ideas, evidently wanting to breathe again as he pulled back.
“Phoenix, open your eyes.” Edgeworth asked of him, but Phoenix didn’t comply. Phoenix held back a whine, but his grip tightened on the man’s sleeve, hesitant to open his eyes again and see disgust, horror, or anything of the sort in his friend’s eyes. Phoenix could hear Edgeworth’s breathing, feeling it on his face for a moment. The hand on his face didn’t leave, surprisingly, and it just moved to hold onto his chin, tilting Phoenix’s head a little. “Look at me, please.”
Reluctantly, Phoenix slowly opened his eyes, finding Edgeworth’s grey ones staring down at him. Shockingly, Phoenix found nothing of what he feared in Edgeworth’s gaze
“I…” Edgeworth’s hold on their eye contact slipped. “I don’t know why I did that-”
“It’s okay,” Phoenix automatically interrupted, a feeling of hurt wrapping around his heart and squeezing it deadly tight. He knew it, he knew it. It was all too good to be true… “I shouldn’t have- I’m sorry, Miles-”
“Phoenix.”
“-if you don’t want to see me again, I understand-” Phoenix faltered, feeling his eyes water up against his will, looking down at this lap to avoid his friend’s gaze. He really didn’t want Edgeworth to see him sobbing like a child over this, letting go of Edgeworth to hastily wipe his eyes dry before he turned into a blubbering mess. “O-Or if you hate me...it’s- fuck, I just like having you around-”
“ Phoenix.” Edgeworth snapped, not maliciously but harsh and loud enough to snap Phoenix from his rambling and startle him into looking back at the man, eyes wide. Breath caught in his throat by a lump, Phoenix fell quiet. “Shut up and let me finish, okay?” Requested Edgeworth, and Phoenix nodded.
“I said I don’t know why I did that, but that doesn’t mean I hate you or don’t want to see you, you blithering idiot.” Edgeworth softly chided while he gingerly thumbed away the few stray tears that rolled down the attorney’s cheeks. “You can be so smart yet so stupid sometimes, Phoenix.”
“Am... I being insulted or complimented?” Phoenix asked a little watery, voice unsteady even as he laughed quietly, feeling a little better now he actually listened to Edgeworth instead of spiralling into self-doubt and jumping the gun.
“A bit of both.” Edgeworth smiled, voice light. “But, back to the point, I didn’t mean to kiss you, but that’s not to say I didn’t want to or don’t want to again.”
“Again?” Phoenix gasped, sitting up a little in excitement.
“Yes, I- it was nice, I enjoyed it.” Admitted the prosecutor, before his confidence wavered a little and Edgeworth looked nervous. “Did… did you?”
“ Yes!” Phoenix breathed out, not waiting a second. Beaming at his friend, Phoenix took hold of his hand, kissing his knuckles softly while Edgeworth watched him. “God yes, it was amazing, Miles, so much better than I imagined.”
“You imagined kissing me?” Edgeworth queried and Phoenix felt his face flush red and warm.
“I uh- maaaaaaybe?” That made Edgeworth smirk smug as hell, and Phoenix decided his embarrassment was worth it.
“Well, if that is the case, then I must confess I have envisioned similar things prior.”
“You think about kissing me? Scandalous.” Phoenix teased when Edgeworth nodded, enjoying the blush that dusted across Edgeworth’s cheeks. “The Demon Prosecutor thinking about snogging his biggest, most formidable rival? What will the courts things.”
“Hush you,” Edgeworth rolled his eyes. “And I don’t care for their thoughts right now.”
“No?”
“No. I… I should like to kiss you again.” Edgeworth disclosed, like his wants were some top secret government file that no one but him knew. It made Phoenix beam even brighter.
“Kiss away, Prosecutor.”
Edgeworth leaned in again with more boldness this time and Phoenix met him halfway, sharing another kiss together. It was better than the last one now that Phoenix knew he wasn’t going to be scorned or abandoned because of it, and Phoenix found himself being confident enough to scoot right up against the prosecutor. Edgeworth looped his arm around Phoenix’s waist, and they kissed for however long, until their lungs decided otherwise.
“Will you stay the night?” Phoenix asked as he left a butterfly kiss to the corner of Edgeworth’s lips. He pulled back suddenly when he realised just how that sounded, a little alarmed. “Not for- we don’t have to ya’know , we can take this as slow or a fast as you want, but- I-”
Phoenix stalled, Edgeworth watching him with concern but not pushing him to continue talking. It took a little moment, but Phoenix found the courage to admit, “it’s a little lonely without the girls here.”
“I understand.” Edgeworth answered honestly, a supportive smile on his face that had Phoenix’s whole body melting into goo. “Let me just inform Detective Gumshoe he needs to feed Pess, and then we can head to bed.”
“Getting me in bed already? You minx.” Phoenix goaded to wind the prosecutor up, laughing as Edgeworth’s face coloured brighter than the cast around his forearm.
“To sleep , Phoenix!”
