I’VE GOT RED IN MY LEDGER | Charles Xavier

Summary:

Charles thinks back upon his partners regrets

Work Text:

The beeping of the monitor kept Charles awake. He had been sitting on that hospital chair for days, waiting for (Y/N) to wake up. He thought maybe he could sleep for a while but the beeping kept him awake.

He couldn’t bring himself to mind though, the beeping meant one thing: she was alive. And if (Y/N) was alive, Charles knew that she could, and most hopefully would, wake up. And he wanted to be there when she did.

The most painful thing to Charles was not that his love, his (Y/N) was in such a state, it was the fact that she willingly put herself in a position where she could be hurt. She meant more to Charles than life itself. The conversation they had when he learnt off the way she thought about herself still plagued his mind.

"Darling, why must you hurt yourself in battle?" He had asked that question nearly five years ago. He was tending her nose; she had broken it during her last fight. "Why must you insist on diving head first into battle?"

"Charles," She had sighed, it had always annoyed him. What he wouldn't do to hear her sigh his name again.

"You know why."

"What happened wasn't your fault, you didn't know."

"I still did it though. I've got red in my ledger, this is my way to make amends."

"I just hate to see you hurt."

She was right, (Y/N) had done terrible things when she was under the control of Apocalypse. But nobody had blamed her for what she had done, nobody held it against her, except from herself. And that self hatred had nearly gotten herself killed.

And all Charles could think was that her ledger must be clear by now.
