The Mind of a Genius

Summary:

Someone is planning their triumph over Batman a little too visually. //Scriddler

Work Text:

"Perfect!" Edward scratched his nose for a while and proudly examined his newest creation on the desk. Gotham in miniature clearly had a certain charm to it. The Riddler took a sip of his now cold coffee and began rummaging in a small box. After a few seconds he found the object of his desire. The inventor placed the black cat figure with a self-made catsuit on one of the skyscrapers near the already very battered Batman action figure. Edward grinned and mumbled softly: "Almost done. Just one more thing." The black-haired man slipped his hand back into the box again. He fished out a cheap-looking scarecrow figure, which, of course, couldn't stand on its own. The Riddler growled bitterly and worked on the new character with a glue gun. The young man burned himself on the hot glue, quickly waving his hand in the air until the pain subsided. Finally he took a small hemp rope and tied it to a noose, lovingly placed it around the neck of the little figure. The last step was to draw a lovely red heart on the back of the scarecrow.

Edward smiled contentedly and placed the cheap Halloween decoration next to his own miniature figure, which he had conjured up from an old and dusty Ken Barbie doll. The suit sat more badly than right on the tanned plastic, the masterpiece was perfected by a green hat with a question mark pattern. Edward nodded approvingly and flicked the light switch on his desk. When switched on, twenty small spotlights shone on the scene that the inventor had imagined. The Riddler finally took the action figure of Batman in his hand, cleared his throat a few times and began to speak in a disguised voice: “Ha, Riddler and Scarecrow! You two don't escape me! I am the great and unbeatable Batman! You villains will soon be back behind bars in Arkham!” To underline the seriousness of the situation, the black-haired man moved the small figure of the superhero back and forth, then moved his arm so that the Dark Knight pointed threateningly at the two villains. Edward turned to the tiny scarecrow now. He thought for a moment and then mimicked Jonathan's solemn voice: "Oh no, Edward! He's after us! I'm so scared!"

The tinkerer put the figure back on the street just to get his own puppet in motion. The Riddler lifted his chin a little and proudly announced: “Don't be afraid, John! I will save us! Take this, Batman!” With that, Edward began to hit the battered action figure of the superhero, The young man kept pounding the modified Ken doll on the poor bat. In a dramatic throw, the tinkerer finally threw the action figure to the ground and raised his arms to underline his defeat. Edward spoke again in a darker voice: "No, you have defeated me with your unattainable intelligence! I haven't even been able to solve any of your unsolvable and perfectly created puzzles. I will never be able to overpower your brain.” The black-haired man took a deep breath. That was music to his ears. He thoughtfully rubbed his stubbly beard until he finally moved the cat slowly back and forth, while the Riddler imitated the voice of a woman: “You are so much better than Batman. Why did I ever fall in love with him and not with you, Riddler?"

Edward was grinning across his ears. He turned back to the Ken doll and said, actually louder than planned: “I know Selina, but don't even think about trying to seduce me – I'm gay. My heart will forever belong to the not so intelligent but reasonably acceptable Scarecrow." The little character of Jonathan replied promptly:" You are so smart, Edward. How could I not love you and your handsome looks? You deserve a PhD more than I do.” The tinkerer looked dreamily at the little scene, noticed much too late how a second coffee mug was lowered onto the table next to him. The black-haired man startled and stared in horror at the Master of Fear. Jonathan had a barely noticeable smile on his lips. He slowly took the little scarecrow in his hand and said clearly amused: "I am truly fascinated by your attention to detail, Edward. Impressive."

The Riddler snatched the figure from the older man's fingers and asked a little too frantically: "How much did you watch?" The former psychiatrist shrugged his shoulders slightly. He replied calmly: "Enough, Edward. But I won't disturb your playing session any longer.” With that, the Master of Fear left the tinkerer's room. Edward put his elbows on the table and laid his face on his hands, pouted for a moment. Life was just unfair sometimes.
