Work Text:
Sitting within my territory, I sat watching the moon climb into the sky. The moon shone beautifully lighting the night sky up along with the stars. The others had left on a night totally unlike this. It had been almost pitched black that night with no moon and the stars seemed to be dimmed unnaturally. Then the voice came and the others lost themselves to it and simply walked away. In the end I was the only one that resisted its promise of power and smothering hate.
I wish the others would find themselves and return to their senses. Then I wouldn't be lonely anymore. I would even settle for a friend from among one of the other races that were the enemies of the voice, but my territory was far from those races' territories. I didn't want to have to leave my home, as every so often my territory was attacked by those under the voices power. Never another Lynel, but a group of bokoblins. The were annoying, but not a threat. Though the idea of them taking over my territory was enraging. So I stay, waiting for the others to come back, or even for one among the free races to come close to my territory.
Time to return to my den for the night, I suppose. The walk back was the same as usual, suddenly the breeze from down wind brought a scent I could not place. The smell was very pleasing, it was meat, but more at the same time. Changing directions to follow the scent was an easy decision.
After trotting through the darkness by moon light for a little, I finally found the source of the scent. It was coming from a stone cooking bowl that was being used by a Hylian. From what I could remember about Hylians they were skittish and would usually run at the sight of me. I didn't want to scare the Hylian away, just see what it was cooking to make such a pleasing smell, and maybe just maybe they would be friendly.
The Hylians were the voice's most hated enemy, but they weren't my enemy, of course he didn't know this. Coming closer toward the Hylian, I chose to stop about 3 of my lengths away. I met the Hylians gaze, he was ready to fight with sword and shield at the ready. From his face I could tell he was calm, but also ready to fight until it was over if need be.
This wasn't what I wanted at all. If I could just tell the Hylian I meant no harm all this would just go away, but I didn't know the tongue of the Hylians. Thinking of the right way to convey my intentions, I chose a risky move. Slowly I drew my sword and then layed it on the ground, then doing the same for my bow. The Hylian stood still the entire time, not flinching at all. Now that I was unarmed, I began moving foward. Slowly I made my way foward to the cooking pot and slowly sat down. The Hylian was still, just watching. Would he attack, or accept my gesture of peace? After a few moments the Hylian put away his weapons, and began cooking again. Though I could still tell he was watching me, though in all fairness I was watching him as well, just for a different reason.
He had mixed together several things in the cooking pot, and was stirring it every so often. Then adding in small white and black powder, then stirring it one more time. After that he began scrapping everything out the cooking bowl into smaller bowls. He placed strange bowl shaped lids on each bowl until all but two were left. Taking one bowl, he carefully held it by one side, so I could take it. I took the bowl, careful not to touch him or drop the tiny bowl. He drew back from me and sat down a little bit away with the other bowl in hand.
Bringing the bowl to my mouth, I took a small lick to taste this strange food. The sauce was slightly hot in a way that I hadn't experienced before, but also sweet. It only took two full licks before the bowl was clean. Immediately after realizing I had devoured such a new and amazing meal, I looked up to see the Hylian staring at me. The look on his face didn't seem angry, fearful, or sad, but one of mild displeasure mixed with happiness maybe? I wasn't truly sure. He then made a gesture with a pointed finger around his mouth, and then pointed his finger at my face. Bringing my hand up to face revealed what he was pointing at, my mane around my mouth was covered in the sauce. I hadn't realized that it was so sticky when I tasted it. I did my best to lick the mess clean, but knew that some remained. It would wash out tomorrow.
I truly wished for more of the delicous food, but the Hylian had already been kind enough to share his food with me, so trying to get more felt wrong. Instead, I held my bowl out to the Hylian, so he could take it back. Moving just close enough he took the bowl and returned to his meal. Finishing his meal, he then began packing everything up, before finally putting the fire out.
Knowing that he would be leaving, I truly wanted to go with him, but I couldn't. It was my duty to remain here, until the others returned. Instead, I chose to walk with him, side by side, till we got to the boundary of the territory. After walking a distance, he turned, and we waved goodbye. Hopefully he would return someday soon.
