Work Text:
Whenever he was in school, Lumine noticed the other school couples and how they acted. They held hands, kissed, talked to each other all the time, hung out, laughing and joking. It wasn’t like he was ungrateful for him and Kody’s relationship as it was now, but he was curious.
What was kissing like?
He saw the couples press their lips together and laugh afterwards, clearly enjoying themselves. It confused him. He was cut out of his thoughts by Elijah, “hey, Lumine! You waitin’ for Kody? What were you looking at?”
Elijah followed his gaze and saw the couples.
“Huh? Why are you looking at them?”
“..Elijah..don’t laugh, okay?”
“I swear! What’s up?”
“Have you ever kissed anyone before?”
“Pardon me?”
“Answer the question!”
He stared at the werewolf and then replied, “why are you assuming I’ve kissed people before? I sure haven’t..are you asking because you want to learn how to kiss?” His expression morphed into a teasing expression as he playfully poked Lumine’s cheek.
Lumine, ever so bashful, quickly said, “no! Nope! Not in my lifetime! Absolutely not, I was just curious!”
“Just curious? Uh-huh. Why are you blushing? Why are you watching the people kissing? Are you sure it’s only out of curiosity?”
“Elijah!”
“What? I’m right, aren’t I?”
He continued to tease Lumine as they walked out of the school and Lumine was eventually walking home with Kody.
Summer break had started and Lumine still had not kissed Kody. He tried his best to stop thinking about it, but it wouldn’t escape his mind. His curiosity was beginning to get the better of him as he began to imagine it, pacing around repeatedly much to the confusion of everyone else.
He was a poor teenage boy hopelessly in love..with no idea how to kiss his boyfriend! It was going to drive him crazy! His thoughts would never match up with reality, he knew that, so he decided to try and reel it back and simply take everything as easily as he could.
It was a hot day and there were no clouds in the sky. The two were lounging in the park, seeing the house as too hot for them. Lumine groaned, “it’s even worse out here! Do you want to go back home or something? Maybe the air conditioner works better now..”
“No, let’s stay out here a bit longer.”
“Really? Okay.”
They stayed silent for a minute or two, basking in the sunlight and each other’s company.
It wasn’t until Lumine decided to speak, “Kody, can I ask you something?”
“Hm?”
“Have..you’ve ever wondered what kissing felt like?”
“Kissing?” A beat or two passed. Kody thought about it, tapping his leg, “once or twice. Why do you ask?” He turned his eyes to Lumine, who averted his gaze and instead kept his eyes toward the skies. “I was just asking! I was curious. I..saw it a lot at school. I always wondered what it would feel like.”
The heat from the sun warmed him to the bone, but also his sheer embarrassment was making him warmer. He wanted to melt into the floor and hide away for the rest of his life! He could feel Kody’s eyes lingering on him, like he was examining him. He didn’t say anything.
Did he say something wrong? Did he overstep his boundaries? He knew Kody wasn’t a very physically affectionate person and he had his limits to what he could do. Lumine respected that. He didn’t want to make Kody feel forced to do something he didn’t want to do!
“..Lumine?”
“Um..yeah?”
“You’ve got something there. Let me look.”
Lumine, naive Lumine, listened to Kody and looked at him, only to be surprised when Kody kissed him for a few seconds before pulling away, still wearing that stoic expression..with a pink tint across his cheeks. He crossed his arms and looked away.
“Are you satisfied? I..I’ve never kissed anyone, so don’t judge me.”
Lumine stared. He stared for a good, long while, slack-jawed and everything. Suddenly, his face burst with a million shades of deep red and he flew off the bench they were sitting on, shaking and appearing to try and hold himself together. Kody blinked.
“Are you alright?”
“You just kissed me.”
“..yes, I did.”
“You just kissed me!”
“Is there something wrong with that?” His behavior made the blush even worse on Kody’s face. Lumine then exclaimed, “you’re..okay with that?! Are you sure? I..”
“Of course I’m okay with it, just..don’t push your luck, okay?” Kody crossed his arms and looked away, trying to regain his composure. Lumine grabbed Kody’s hands and began spilling tons and tons of words, Kody couldn’t really keep up, but seeing Lumine’s bright smile..
The sun paled in comparison.
His tail was wagging side to side rapidly and his wolven ears were upright. Kody couldn’t lie, he had been curious too, but he wasn’t sure if he wanted to take the risk. He had to slowly come around to the idea first.
However, it wasn’t too bad.
(Well, it wasn’t bad at all, but you weren’t going to see him admit that.)
The two of them went home later that day, with Lumine skipping ahead jubilantly and Kody keeping up the best he could, equally as ecstatic.
