Work Text:
The first few rays of sun fall on Nightcloud. She blinks her eyes open once, before closing them immediately and curling more deeply into Sorreltail’s side. She can feel the larger molly purr, before prodding at Nightcloud with her paw.
“C’mon, Sunshine,” Sorreltail laughs, lightly nudging at Nightcloud’s shoulder. “It’s time to get up.”
“No thanks,” Nightcloud rolls over onto her back, lightly batting at Sorreltail’s face.
“We have to,” Sorreltail purrs in amusement, blinking gently down at her. “Our clans will be wondering where we are.”
“Pity,” She moves to Sorreltail’s side. “They’ll just have to wonder for a little bit more.”
Sorreltail laughs and wraps her tail around Nightcloud.
They stay there for a while, Nightcloud submerged in the other molly’s embrace. They watch the sun rise further into the sky, the sky slowly turning into a bright shade of blue, with faint traces of clouds. Somewhere not far off, she can hear birdsong and the faint rustling of prey scurrying off in the grass. Faintly, she knows that she should leave before her clan-mates notice she’s missing, just she can’t bring herself too. It’s too comfortable and warm.
Besides, she can catch a rabbit or two before she goes back. No one will question her. Hopefully.
“Sunshine, we really should go, soon.” Sorreltail says, breaking the silence. Her eyes are sad and longing. “It’s way past dawn. Cats will start to talk.”
“I know,” Nightcloud leans against Sorreltail a moment more, before slowly disentangling herself from her with a sigh. “We’ll see each other next week?”
“‘Course,” Sorreltail smiles as she stands as well, tail brushing against Nightcloud’s flank. She presses her muzzle against her ear. “See you, Sunshine.”
“See you, Sorrel.” Nightcloud licks Sorreltail’s cheek.
She turns, walking out of their little clearing, but stops for a second. She turns her head slightly and catches Sorreltail’s eye. She smiles softly at the molly, who smiles back widely, eyes tender and soft and loving. Nightcloud feels her heart beat fast against her chest, and she leaves the clearing before she can say something stupid.
She smiles all the way to Windclan camp, carrying a rabbit and a crow.
