His Greatest Creation

Summary:

There’s this saying, “the internet forgets nothing“ or maybe it’s more along the lines of “nothing ever really disappears online“, no matter, it’s not important, the sentiment’s the same.
Ergo, Jarvis is not dead, cannot be dead, Tony's convinced.

or:
Tony would've never let his son die, never

Notes:

Heya, i know right, a third time in one day, that's just crazy! But i still have some stories saved and i really wanted to get them all out so i can start on some other, newer fics. So you get a lot today, although i will say, this is the last one i had saved, so no more, at least i hope so!
I had a lot of feelings about Jarvisses death, mostly that i dont accept it. Friday's nice, i understand why Vision had to exist, but nope, Jarvis cannot be dead, i love him too much. Plus i never understood it either, as if Tony wouldn't save Jarvis like eighty times a day!
So this small fic was born to right this giant wrong.
Please enjoy!

Work Text:

There’s this saying, “the internet forgets nothing“ or maybe it’s more along the lines of “nothing ever really disappears online“, no matter, it’s not important, the sentiment’s the same.

Your old party photos from college will never disappear, and neither will the vaguely racist tweets you made in 2010. Point being, once something’s online, it’s nearly impossible to really get rid of.
So the concept that Jarvis died, is laughable. Jarvis is the most advanced A.I. out there, and he had been online for the past 30 years, in internet time, that's basically forever.

So, Jarvis is not dead.

Tony refused to acknowledge the mere possibility of his death. They had so many backups and safety copies, it was simply impossible. Which meant, of course, Tony locked himself in the lab as soon as he had a second of time.
It would go down in history as his longest working binge to this day, as he did not leave his lab for an astonishing 23 days, in which he slept an approximate 2.5 hours every other day.
He ordered record-breaking amounts of greasy take out, drank himself into oblivion more than once and not even Pepper could get him to leave the lab.

Jarvis was his son and dammit, Tony would be the first to die between the two of them. That was the deal. Jarvis was not allowed to go. Tony knew that if, -if not when- he failed to resurrect his son, he would put a gun to his head and pull the trigger, something he’d been too much of a pussy to do for the last twenty-something years.

In fact, it would be the 23 anniversary of his last try next week.

How fitting.

He looked like a hobo, he knew, but it didn’t matter, nothing mattered because he was so close to getting him back, he had to be. Tony could feel it!

On the last day of his frankly ridiculously long binge, his honeybear came, suit and all, and Tony, Tony could breathe again.
He felt the same way he’d felt 23 years ago when Jarvis had been born, created, whatever.
Jarvis is honestly his greatest creation. He laughed. Maybe he cried a little, who knew.

And when Jarvis finally came back online, and he could ask “You there, Jarvis?“ And Jarvis answered, “For you, Sir? Always.“ He fell into the strong arms of his platypus and cried like it was 1992 and he’d just heard Jarvis for the very first time.

Jarvis was alive, Jarvis was well, and nobody would, could, ever harm him again.
Everything was good again, not perfect, but who gave a fuck?

There’s this saying: “the internet forgets nothing“ or maybe it's more along the lines of “nothing ever really disappears online“, and its true. Nothing ever really dies online, and Tony could’t be happier about it.
