Work Text:

Two swords clashed together giving off a metallic ring, two men fighting in the distance while the golden ball of fire in the sky descended beyond the hills far away, sinking in the horizon, whilst blades shining in the evening sunlight. One of them was a head shorter than the other, but no less proficient in swordsmanship skills by the looks of it, but it seems the taller one is having the upperhand in this battle.

The ambience was calm and cool, but somehow the clash of blades were sending icy chills throughout the place, along with the occasional wind waves that blew through the trees moving the leaves, making them dance.

With a spontaneous sharp swing, the tall man unarmed the other, leaving him defenseless, then pointing the sword at his neck as he fell backwards, while his sword whirled and landed, pointed end piercing the ground at an angle.

“Damn it, I was so close!” the boy thudded on the ground with his fist.

“Not really, you've still got a long way to go.” the winner retorted.

The boy pouted, turning his head towards the side. He was panting heavily, sweat trickling his forehead. He closed his eyes, catching his breath. They rested in that position for a few seconds, until a cool occasional breeze interrupted their silence. The man still standing slowly lifted his sword up and placed it in its holder behind his back.

“But you've improved, Boruto”, the man commented. Though his comment was short, the twinkle in his single coal black eye hinted that he was beyond proud with the progress his student had made in the past few weeks.

“No kidding after all this training. Besides, the legendary Uchiha Sasuke is my teacher, so I have got to keep up to his standards right?”, the boy flashed a grin. The teacher simply nodded in approval, but his student also caught a glint of satisfaction in his face that someone else would've failed to notice. At that he concluded his teacher had acknowledged his skills and potential. He did a victory dance in his head at that thought.

The man sat beside his student on the grass, both of them now facing the setting sun. A part of his shoulder-length black hair was covering his left eye. He lifted his head up and looked at the scenery in front of him, and was immediately mesmerised by the beauty of sunset nature had to offer. The sky was a magnificent shade of pale orange, blending with the now fading blue. The sun was now turning to a softer shade of deep orange. It stood out in the sky like a certain blond blue-eyed shinobi he knew.

Naruto. He thought. He always stood out everywhere he went, and had the power to bring people together. Since the day they were assigned to the same genin team, he became his closest friend and rival. They competed against each other and honed their skills. The entire village used to hate him, and he was a loser in their perspective. But he was someone who hates to lose, in reality. He is the reason Sasuke was not consumed by darkness and hatred. So he still feels indebted to him as he was the one who showed him the right path to walk.

Naruto is now one of the strongest shinobi on earth along with Sasuke and both of them are said to be an unbeatable duo. He is also the father of the boy whom he had accepted as his pupil. Everyone in his village has acknowledged him and he has now achieved his dream to become the Hokage of Konoha, their village, and protects it, while Sasuke protects his village from the shadows.

Another cool breeze blew past them, blowing their hair, drying some sweat and lifting the hairs sticking to their faces. Sasuke turned to look at his student. His blonde hair was swaying along the breeze, shimmering at the influence of the fading light. His bright blue eyes were a striking contrast to the surrounding hues.

“So that's it for today, go get some rest. We will continue tomorrow.”

“Yeah, shishou”

The boy stood up and dusted his pants. He then lifted his fallen sword, and secured it in a holder in his back, identical to his teacher’s.

“I'll go get some firewood, It's getting dark.” he bowed and then walked away.

The twilight illuminated the last minutes of the day, preparing it for the full moon night that is to come.

-------------------------------------------

The air was filled with the scent of grilled mushrooms and fish they had caught earlier. The bonfire was illuminating the darkness, along with the clear moon's light. The air was chilly save for the area cloaked by the warmth of the fire.

“....so that's how we brought Mitsuki back from Iwagakure.” Boruto ended his story, proudly grinning. He was munching on a grilled mushroom.

“It's still unbelievable how you made a summoning contract with Garaga just to bring a friend back. You certainly have inherited Naruto's unpredictability.”

“But we would've never made it if Sarada hadn't come along… she convinced Aoda to help us.”

“Aoda? You met him?”

“Yeah, didn't he tell you? He's your summon right?”

“I haven't summoned him in a while.”

Sasuke had known that they went to Iwa once to bring back their teammate and friend Mitsuki but never thought it turned out to be such a bizarre adventure. Visiting Ryuchi cave and passing all the trials and befriending an ancient psycho snake? It was even a miracle that a bunch of freshly graduated genin managed to make out alive after an encounter with the infamous one eyed snake.

“So...I told you my story. Now it's your turn, Sasuke-san!” he exclaimed out of nowhere.

Yeah, he sure is Naruto's offspring.

“Huh? Just because you're telling me your stories doesn't mean I have to tell you mine.” he simply stated, but amused at the boy's sudden enthusiasm.

“But common!” He whined, “Tell me an adventure of yours, you don't have to be stuffy all the time, your Uchiha pride and all”.

He was right, the Uchiha man thought. But he had never told anyone about himself, not even his own daughter, Sarada. When he talks with his wife Sakura, they always avoid topics related to his past, as it was never pleasant. But still, something told him the boy in front of him deserved to know about him. Well, he is now old enough to hear a dark story. So he took a deep breath and exhaled, then turned to face his number one star pupil.

“I honestly have no idea where to start, but I think it's time I should tell someone about my adventures” He finally settled, a subtle smirk finding its way onto his ever impassive face, which was pretty unusual since he rarely smiled.

“So you're gonna tell me for real?” the blonde’s eyes sparkled with excitement, the reflection of the lit fire waltzing in his blue orbs.

Sasuke nodded, while several thoughts ran through his mind.

“So… why don't you ask me some questions and I answer them? That way, you'll get to know what you want to and I will be able to give you the most relevant answer” He suggested.

“Hm, that doesn't sound bad at all” he nodded, while resting his chin on his palm.

He observed Sasuke for a while. His eyes suddenly settled on his empty left sleeve. He knew exactly what to ask him first.

“So, why don't you tell me how you lost that arm? Whenever I ask dad how he lost his’, he always brushes me off. But I still think there is something more to it than what it seems, since you both lost one each. It must've been something really big, and I bet that story is gonna be interesting.”

“Well, I expected you would ask that. But are you sure? I've got a lot to tell you about this.” He waved his empty sleeve aimlessly.

“I'm positive” he was beaming with glee.

Suddenly, an idea struck Sasuke like a Chidori.

“So… tell me, would you mind if my tale included some visuals?” He asked, one lone black eye sparkling with mirth.

Visuals? What is he... Realization dawned him as he looked into his eye, and he couldn't help but grin.

Who knew that his stoic teacher had a playful side in him?

"Sasuke-san, were you just going to put me under your Tsukuyomi? From what I know, it was primarily used for torturing. And you sure you don't want to spend all your chakra for a simple tale? I've heard Tsukuyomi is not the most feasible even for an Uchiha."

"Ah, So you've done your research? I'm impressed."

"What can I say, I'm just awesome that way." He rubbed his nose in satisfaction.

Sasuke straightened himself. "Brace yourself, this is going to be one hell of a tale. Are you ready?"

"Always been y'know!" He exclaimed on top of his lungs.

In a split second, Sasuke opened his right eye and it was glowing red, the pattern of Mangekyou Sharingan swirling in it. And before he could even react, the world around them started spinning, everything blurring, and they ended up in a black void space.
