It really was a beautiful ceremony, although none of James' friends could really believe that he actually got Lily to marry him. The reception like the ceremony had been going absolutely fabulous, Lily really had excellent taste in decor.
Sirius had just finished giving the Best Man speech, of course he decided to pull out a love letter that James' had written for Lily in about third year. By this time Remus was well on his way to totally hammered whereas everyone else had barley had a glass of champagne as part of the toast.
No one really understood why but all day Remus had been oddly melancholy. In true Remus fashion he refused to talk about it. If anyone tried to say anything he would say that he didn't want to ruin the day, or that he was fine and today was about James and Lily not him. He also claimed that he didn't want to ruin the wedding with his dramatics, eventually the other Marauders gave up trying to get him to talk about whatever was bothering him.
Once Remus was proper wasted he climbed atop a table and loudly cleared his throat as though everyone wasn't already staring at him. It was made very clear that he was planning on making some sort of announcement.
"Hello, Wow I feel even taller than normal! Anyways I want to make some sort of speech or announcement thingy or whatever its called." Everyone was quite shocked by this as Remus certainly wasn't the person people expected to get drunk way to early and make an embarrassing speech.
"Firstly Congrats," yes he really did say 'congrats' rather than congratulations, "to James for finally getting Lily to see that you aren't a complete fool." Those who knew of James' struggle to get Lily to like him back gave a chuckle at that. "And Congrats to Lily for bagging one of the richest wizards in the UK." At that nearly everyone laughed. "In all seriousness I love you guys and can't wait to see how unbearably lovey dovey you become as a married couple. Personally I have been a bit sulky as of late and I am truly sorry about that. It's just that is seems as though I'm in a bit of an unrequited love situation." At this everyone fell silent shocked that Remus would admit to such a thing so openly.
All who knew Remus knew that he refused to date or even have the occasional one night stand. He always claimed that he just felt as though it was worthless if he couldn't be with them long term due to his issues. The reality was that he also didn't want to burden anyone because of his lycanthropy.
"I have loved this person for quite a while now and I fear that I will no longer be able to pretend that my feelings are only platonic. It is simply too much to bear any longer. I doubt this will end well. But Sirius," At this nearly everyone gasped both surprised and saddened that he truly thought that there was no way that his love was reciprocated, "I have loved you since we were fifteen and I'm pretty sure that you're straight, but my tequila soaked brain has made me believe that this was an excellent idea. So Pads," No one is really able to comprehend what happens next.
Remus begins singing, "If you're all alone when the pretty birds have flown." Even drunk he had a drop dead gorgeous voice. "Honey, I'm still free take a chance on me."
He managed to get through the next verse before Sirius had enough brain function to realize that he should probably be trying to get Remus off of the table. It took a minute but after carefully coaxing him off the table Sirius was able to lead Remus into a side room to try and sober him up a bit before bed.
"Come on Moons, please can you drink some water for me?"
This got an immediate response of, "I'd do anything for you Siri. You know I love you so much. Do you love me?"
Sirius got sort of quiet and reflective for a moment before quietly saying, "Of course I love you Moony mine. Who wouldn't love you?"
Remus brightened up quite a bit at this news before slurring out "If you love me, and I love you that means that we should like kiss and hold hands and stuff. Right?"
Sirius smiled somberly and said, "No Remus, you don't love me like that you're just drunk and saying silly things. So I'm going to have you drink some water and go to bed. Mkay, how does that sound?"
"Nooooo! I love you like, like romantically and stiff. So you should just kiss me." He paused before saying, "Yeah that's what should happen. Kiss me, please Pads."
Sirius sparkled with what looked almost like hope as he said, "How about this, in the morning if you tell me that you still love me and want to kiss me I'll kiss you. Does that sound like a good deal?
Remus contemplated this for a moment before saying, "I still think that you should just kiss me now so that we won't have to wait for morning, but I will accept your deal."
"Good" Sirius then whispered, "I really really hope that you remember."
Remus then said, "Do you have a pen?"
Sirius hands one over and watches and Remus writes on his arm, Tell Sirius that you want to kiss him and that you love him. Sirius asks, "Why are you writing that down?"
"To make sure that I don't forget." Remus says in all seriousness.
"All right time for bed Moony," Sirius said after a moment.
Luckily Sirius and Remus were sharing a room already. Although Remus refused to sleep alone, instead cuddling up next to Sirius. Sirius told himself that it was fine and that they shared beds all the time, but he still felt a little bit guilty for not moving.
"Goodnight Pads, I love you." Remus whispered sleepily into his hair.
"Love you too Moons."
When Sirius woke up it was because he heard Remus groan before saying, "What the fuck did I do last night?"
Sirius frowned as he spoke, "You mean you don't remember?"
"God no, I feel like I'm dying."
Remus got halfway to the bathroom before noticing the writing on his arm and running back to Sirius while practically shouting, "I love you Pads, please please Kiss me."
To which Sirius responds by saying, "I'd love nothing more Moons."
