“You have no proof,” Mikey exclaimed, hiding behind the Clue ™ cards. Somehow, the action made Takemichi want to pretend he didn’t have any proof, but it really was in the pudding- or well in the dining room with the gun. He’d won the game if he just said something and looked at the envelope.
The storm outside was getting bad and their guests really needed to leave before it got worse, so he probably should just do it- except… Mikey always made him hesitate.
You see, falling in love with your best friend is a very slow and anxiety inducing experience. An experience of which he was still going through. He was completely smitten by the dark haired man in front of him, which made it very, very hard to actually argue with him about winning this game.
This debacle had started in high school- at a halloween party. It was meant to be a masquerade party but no one really did the whole masquerade thing. A few people came as undead creatures, others as vampires. Him and Mikey, somehow came as angel and devil. They’d already been friends for years, sharing food, having sleepovers, all of the things close friends did. Except, that night they were thrown together for seven minutes in heaven. Insert drum sound for when you make a shitty pun here, because yes, his friends did put the angel and devil together in 7 minutes in heaven just because they’d found the idea amusing.
Ironically, locked in a closet was when he realized maybe his best friend was more than a friend. It wasn’t like they made out or did something insane like that. They were a bit pressed for space though and Takemichi could feel Mikey’s devil horns on his forehead, feel blonde hair against his face, feel the breath on his neck, feel knees against his thighs. They didn’t really say much, until Mikey looked up and their lips brushed, noses touching and everything.
Takemichi felt his breath hitch, something inside him wanting to do that again.
“Sorry-“ Mikey started, his breath hitting Takemichi’s lips in a way that felt like someone was teasing him. Someone holding a drug in front of an addict, saying ‘ You know you want it.’ and he definitely did.
He couldn’t really think about it much longer though because his traitorous other friends decided to end the 7 minutes then.
They hadn’t talked about that, they just kind of went on as usual- except the new addition of times he’d see Mikey and want to kiss him or touch him or do something that was definitely a bit more than friendly. He’d feel like he was going to combust for a second, before pushing his every thought to the outskirts of his mind. This happened for the last year of school, until they went off to college.
In college they decided to move in together; which was both a great idea and horrible oversight seeing as being with Mikey every night and so much during the day was bad for his heart. Mikey got asked out a lot, when they walked around together, but he waved people off and said no. Occasionally saying he was interested in someone- tearing Takemichi’s heart into 447,373,738,743 pieces; exactly that number. Besides that fact, there was so much domestic behavior between them… it made Takemichi want to scream. He wanted to stay with Mikey like this forever: the breakfasts, the taking care of each other, the long talks, the grocery shopping, the movie nights and video games, but he also wanted more .
The Ikea Incident ™ didn’t help. This incident went down in history amongst him and Chifuyu (his one confidant on Mikey affairs, who wants to viciously strangle him at this point). Him and Mikey had gone to Ikea ™ to get new houseware and of course found themselves in the display area. They’d watched 500 Days Of Summer nights before, so this action was probably inspired by the film, but Takemichi couldn’t shake it for days.
Mikey and him were walking around and somehow he started pretending they lived in the display rooms. Sometimes saying, ’ Don’t you love this show babe? ‘ in the display with the couch and TV or ‘Honey, I think our microwave is broken.’ in a kitchen display. When another couple walked up to look at something he confidently gestured to him saying, ‘My husband loves that one.’ leading to Takemichi’s face burning and probably turning every shade of pink in existence.
Back to the current kitchen in question, the Clue™ kitchen, would he win the game or not? “I’m checking the cards,” He decided, looking away from Mikey.
Chifuyu gave a very relieved sigh, “After this we have to go before the storm gets worse.”
Kazutora nodded as he looked out the window, looking between everyone before sharing a look with Chifuyu. Those two had a habit of speaking without speaking.
As expected, Takemichi won and the two left, promising to get in contact when they reached home.
Mikey was on him, literally jumping on his back the second they left, “I just needed one more turn-“ He was whining, but there was a mutual understanding it wasn’t serious. All Takemichi could do was laugh, he loved him . All the little parts of him; including things like this. He wouldn’t trade them for the world.
There was in fact no power, so in essence, they didn’t have much to do. “Lets go sit,” Takemichi suggested, dragging his friend along.
Even though they went to sit, Mikey still stayed attached to him, while normally he didn’t mind this- the position they landed in was less than ideal and it was pitch black besides the rainy window- which currently was giving them almost no light.
“Takemitchy?” Mikey’s voice from below him saying his name , made him flinch slightly. His attention was already on Mikey, but now he was more nervous, somehow.
“Yeah?”
“How long are you going to hold back?” The words confused him. Hold back? How so? Maybe he-
Mikey pulled him closer so their noses were touching, “You’re holding back. I can tell.” Oh . Holding back. He was holding back, if that’s what he meant, but did that mean it was okay not to hold back.
Trying not to overthink it, he pressed their lips together slowly. If someone asked him how kissing was, he’d say it made you feel bubbly inside. He didn’t feel fireworks per se or some weird hallelujah chorus but he felt like he was on clouds, the calmest he’d ever been. He felt like he could take on the world… as long as Mikey was there or if it was for Mikey.
When they seperated, the rainy window illuminated Mikey in a very beautiful way, casting light onto parts of his face as he laid blushing, very clearly giddy below him. He’d always been beautiful but also? He was something so precious and dear to Takemichi. Since that day in the closet (laugh, just do it) , with a blonde devil horned boy he’d been holding back, a lot about them both had changed, but underneath it all. He still wanted to be with Mikey.
“I’ve been waiting forever for you to do that,” Mikey interrupted his thoughts with a carefree laugh. He hid his head in Takemichi’s shoulder, “I really thought you would at that Halloween party, to be honest-“
“You waited that long- mmf“ Takemichi started before being interrupted by Mikey pulling him down again. A very obvious, wordless, ‘Idiot’.
“Do you want to kiss in the rain?” Takemichi joked halfheartedly in between kisses, earning a very disapproving look from his.. boyfriend ?
“No, that’s not rain , that’s a storm,” Mikey told him the obvious, before flipping them, “Plus I want all of your attention right now, not some cheesy trope.”
Oh . “You’ve had my attention for a while now, Manjiro.”
The use of his name caught the dark haired man off guard, but instantly he smiled. Manjiro Sano was an addiction. Thankfully, he was a healthy addiction that forced you to continue to pay attention to him, so it really wasn’t that hard to be addicted to him. It was as simple as just being. Loving him was as easy as breathing; It was as comfortable as a day inside while it was raining and as beautiful as a blooming flower in the spring.
Next time, he’d let him win the clue game. If only to see his smile when he won.
