Work Text:

“I’m not drunk,” Diluc says suddenly, breaking the wine cellar’s lazy silence. He lies flat on his back in the far corner, hidden away with an empty bottle at his right and Kaeya sitting against a barrel to his left. Only the round yellow lamps near the entrance are lit, and shadows shroud the pair of teenagers.

Tomorrow is Kaeya’s birthday. Their father has a grand party planned in celebration. Everyone who’s anyone will be there. And Diluc will enjoy that, but he enjoys this more—Kaeya pulling him aside the day before, whispering in his ear, “Celebrate early with me. Just the two of us.”

They picked two bottles of wine that might not be missed. They’ve emptied the white, and now Kaeya’s holding the red. He nudges Diluc’s thigh with his foot. He’s just wearing socks, and his foot is warmer than Diluc expects. “I didn’t ask if you were drunk.”

He sounds both amused and patient. It’s insufferable. Diluc craves every word with every fiber of his being.

“You were thinking it,” Diluc mutters. “Don’t try to deny it.”

Kaeya removes his foot from Diluc’s thigh. “You have no idea what I’m thinking about.”

When Diluc squints up at him, all he can see is Kaeya’s eyepatch, and the distracting curve of Kaeya’s lips. He remembers that those same lips kissed the mouth of the wine bottle before Diluc had his turn. And after. Diluc doesn’t really have a taste for wine, but he finds it far sweeter when he shares it with Kaeya.

“You could tell me,” Diluc says.

The curve of Kaeya’s lips deepens. His elegant fingers twist the cork off the second bottle, with a pop that Diluc barely hears because he’s too busy staring at Kaeya’s neck. The scant golden light catches on Kaeya’s jawline.

“You could tell me anything,” Diluc says.

He watches Kaeya bring the bottle up. Watches his neck move as he swallows. There’s a faint red sheen on his lips when he sets the bottle aside, and turns to fix Diluc with his one piercing eye.

“Not anything.” Kaeya moves towards Diluc. He leans over him, one hand splayed beside Diluc’s head, the other hovering above his throat. “But I can tell you this.”

The light dims as Kaeya leans over him. Diluc may or may not have been drunk before, but he’s quickly drunk on this: Kaeya’s cool lips, an insistent kiss, stealing away his breath and heart.
