Work Text:
Noelle couldn’t fall asleep.
It left her staring blankly at the ceiling above her. It was close to midnight and her mother wasn’t home. Her father was clearly still sick at the hospital with her mother stuck in the office.
She knew Susie and Kris would be up at this hour. She propped her elbow on her bed, grabbing her phone from the nightstand. The screen lightened up, making her eyes sting for a brief moment before her eyes settled down to the brightness of the device.
The Fun Gang Group Chat:
Noelle: Can I hang out with you guys? I can’t sleep.
Kris: Sure. I’ll open the window for you.
Susie: hell yeah!
Noelle could’ve just used the front door instead, but that might wake up Toriel, and no one wanted that. Plus, it was more fun to use the window. The deer’s lips turned upwards as she read the words from the screen. She shuffled out of her bed, sliding on her fuzzy ruby red slippers.
She took a few of her belongings with her before she locked the door on her way out. She texted her mom that she’d be spending the night at Kris’s.
The purple monster had recently moved into the Dreemurr’s residence for reasons Noelle didn’t like to think about. If she did, it would stir up anger and pity.
Noelle grabbed hold of the window before she hoisted it open, hopping inside of Kris’s bedroom smoothly. She greeted her partners before she rummaged through Kris’s drawers and pulled out one of their infamous sweaters and slipped it over her head, adjusting it to her liking. She only wore a white tank-top underneath it.
Her hooves patted against the carpet as she rolled out her dark green sleeping bag that Kris had given her. She dropped the pillow in front of said sleeping bag.
Susie was on Asriel’s computer, engrossed in the game she was playing. Kris beckoned Noelle to them, sitting on their bed. Once the deer approached them, Kris closed the gap between the both of them.
The human ran their fingers through Noelle’s long locks of blonde hair. She hummed in content, resting her head on Kris’s neck.
A few moments passed in a comfortable silence before Noelle’s eyes fluttered shut, feeling Kris’s hand knead through her hair before she fell deep into unconsciousness.
Susie’s eyes drifted away from the computer towards Kris’s and Noelle’s figures.
“She fell asleep?” inquired the purple monster.
Kris nodded in response, earning a grunt from Susie.
She turned off the computer before she made her way to the bed. “I’ll put her in her sleeping bag,” said Susie as she picked up Noelle easily in her arms, careful not to wake her.
She cautiously slid Noelle under her cover of her sleeping bag, zipping it up slowly to reduce noise. In response, the deer stirred for a moment before she settled back down. Susie noticed there was a strand of hair present on Noelle’s face. She swiftly brushed it back into place.
She gazed fondly at her girlfriend for a second.
She stood up, locking eyes with Kris, who had a huge shit-eating grin on their lips.
A dust of blush blossomed on Susie’s cheeks, slowly rising to the rest of her face. “S-Shut up! Keep your shitty thoughts to yourself!” she whisper-yelled.
Kris held in a snicker and shrugged nonchalantly.
“I said nothing,” they replied matter-of-factly.
Susie (quietly) stormed towards Kris before locking her arm around their neck and noogied the top of their hair roughly.
“Yeah? Well, your face said it all!” exclaimed Susie.
The human giggled under their breath. Susie removed herself from Kris before she slipped under the covers, Kris following suit. Kris rested their head on Susie’s neck, their legs tangling together like pretzels.
Kris watched as Susie fluttered her eyes shut, dozing off to sleep. Sadly, Kris was wide awake the entire night.
Monday soon arrived and Kris could barely function properly because of their lack of sleep. Ever since Asriel left for college, their sleep schedule had been terrible.
As they closed their locked door, Susie strolled towards them with Noelle in tow. They noticed they both shared worried glances towards each other.
“You look more like a zombie than usual,” commented Susie.
“S-Susie! Don’t say that!” protested Noelle.
Susie turned her head towards her lover. “What? Am I wrong?” asked the purple monster.
The two broke out in a playful argument as Kris struggled to stay awake. They shook their head, trying their best to keep their eyes open.
Everything around them was useless, garbled noise. Just for a moment, they rested their eyes.
“Watch what happens when I cast a spell I don’t know!” hissed Noelle bitterly.
The deer summoned her magic as Kris watched blankly. Pellets of snow enveloped their enemy, Berdly, whole. Snow swarmed around him like angry bees until it froze him solid.
Berdly was dead.
It was Kris who killed him. The human was a murderer, and that’s all they ever would be.
Kris woke up, a scream threatening to erupt from the back of their throat. They blinked wildly, trying to get a grasp on their surroundings. They soon realized they were in the nurse’s office.
“Oh shit! Kris is awake!” shouted Susie, who sat on the edge of the medical bed Kris laid in.
She leaned close, inspecting her lover carefully. She gripped her claws on either side of their shoulders. “How’re you feeling, zombie?” she uttered.
‘Zombie’ was a nickname Susie had given them months ago, back before they were in a relationship. The name always stuck with them.
“Exhausted…” they admitted.
Susie hummed affirmatively in response. Noelle shuffled her way towards Kris, taking a seat across from the purple monster. She reached her hand out, intertwining her fingers with Kris’s. The deer offered them a gentle smile.
“You haven’t been getting enough sleep, huh?” inquired Noelle.
Kris nodded sadly in response.
“When did it start?” huffed Susie.
“After Asriel left for college,” replied Kris.
“God, Kris… That was almost half a year ago!” protested the monster sourly.
“You’ve been suffering in silence this entire time… and you told no one?” said Noelle with a tilt of her head.
“There’s not much to do when one has insomnia…” shrugged Kris.
Susie pointed at Kris angrily. “I call bullshit! You can get sleeping medication and shit like that!” argued the girl.
Kris let out a heavy sigh. “I suppose I could try it out. I doubt it would actually work,” responded the human.
“If you have an attitude like that, then there’s no way it’ll help!” Susie’s voice rose in anger.
“Susie…” muttered Noelle.
The purple-haired monster gestured with her hand.
“Why did you tell me?! Tell us?! This is a three-way relationship! You’re supposed to tell us shit, no matter if you feel like a burden! Do you… do you not trust us enough, Kris?” her voice cracked as she spoke.
Kris’s soul leaped into their stomach as they shook their head vigorously.
“I… I was scared to tell you…” revealed the human.
“I’ve… been having this surreal nightmare, and it’s always the same result. After I split up from you and Ralsei in Cyber City, I met Noelle soon after. Then, I forced her to kill all of our enemies we encountered…”
Tears strolled down their cheeks as they hiccuped.
“I… I didn’t feel in control. I felt as if I was watching it play out, and I could only helplessly watch,” explained Kris.
“Kris, I’ve known you for years. I know you would never force me to do something as terrible as that,” assured Noelle.
Kris shook their head. “Who knows what I’m capable of…” they muttered sourly.
Suddenly, Susie’s hand came into contact with the side of their cheek harshly, knocking the wind out of them. They let out an audible gasp, resting their hand on their now red cheek. It stung.
“S-Susie! Why did you do that?!” shrieked Noelle in horror.
“They weren’t thinking straight! Someone had to bring them back to reality!” responded Susie, surprised at her own action.
To the girls’ surprise, a chuckle found its way out of Kris’s lips before it turned into pure laughter. Susie followed suit soon after, and Noelle couldn’t help but find their lovers’ giggles contagious before joining the laughter as well.
Kris gazed intently at the two outfits sprawled on their bed.
Susie sighed impatiently, her foot tapping against the carpet. She pulled out her phone from her back pocket, checking the time.
“Kris, if ya don’t pick out a damn outfit we’re gonna be late meeting Noelle at our dinner date!” whined the purple monster.
It was Kris’s turn to sigh as they grabbed hold of the wine red romper on the bed. They quickly shuffled to the bathroom to change.
Once they exited said room, they faced Susie. She was clad in a dark purple suit with a black bowtie around her neck that their mother had bought her. Her face flushed a deep pink as she stared in awe at her partner.
“... How do I look?” whispered Kris.
“You clean yourself up nice, Kris,” admitted Susie.
The brunette grinned ear to ear before they locked their arm with Susie’s, tugging her outside to the car where Toriel waited for them.
Noelle greeted the two warmly, wearing a light blue dress hat reached below her thighs with puffs on the sleeves. She resembled that of a princess.
She left Kris and Susie stunned and blushing profusely.
Kris sent her a thumbs up. “You look marvelous, as always,” complemented the brunette. It was Noelle’s turn to fluster, shying away.
“T-Thank you, Kris…” she replied in a low voice.
The deer turned to Susie with a nervous smile. Susie scratched the back of her head, darting her eyes away from her two partners.
“I… I think you look great in anything you wear, but this… suits you,” muttered the purple monster, blushing evident on her cheeks.
Afterward, the three entered the establishment. Luckily, Noelle already made reservations, so the server guided them to a table with three chairs.
They all took a seat.
Once Susie began to feel more comfortable in the restaurant, she propped her feet on the table, much to Noelle’s dismay.
“Susie! You shouldn’t do that! This is a fancy restaurant, you might get in trouble!” exclaimed the deer with concern written in her voice.
Said purple monster shrugged her shoulders and scoffed. “Eh, it’s fine, Clarice. You worry too much,” said Susie with a wave of her hand.
‘Clarice’ was a nickname given to Noelle because of Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer’s lore. Essentially, Rudolph had a girlfriend named Clarice and Susie thought it’d be hilarious if she began calling her girlfriend that.
Noelle bristled. “Don’t call me that! There’s so many names in the book you could call me, yet you choose that?!”
Susie snorted as the server approached the three. They were glaring at Susie angrily.
“Please refrain from using the table as a recliner. If I catch your insensitive behavior again, I will kick you out,” threatened the server darkly.
The purple-haired monster blinked before chuckles escaped her lips.
Noelle and Kris glanced from the server to Susie in pure shock.
The monster grabbed the glass of water on the table and splashed it on the server, soaking them entirely. Susie tugged Noelle and Kris out of the restaurant, hearing the server shout profanities at them.
Susie continued to cackle with laughter, and her two partners couldn’t help but join in.
“W-Wait! We never paid!” exclaimed Noelle.
“Babe, we ordered nothing. The server didn’t even ask us for our drinks. They only gave us water, which is probably free,” replied Susie.
Noelle’s mouth formed into an ‘o’ before she remained silent. Kris snickered under their breath, much to the deer’s annoyance.
Eventually, the two stopped at the lake in Hometown.
Susie was first to pull off her shoes, sliding her pants up to avoid being drowned in water. It didn’t take long for Kris to follow. Noelle watched anxiously as the two ran for the body of water, splashing each other with it.
Susie turned to her girlfriend. “Clarice! Arent’cha gonna join?” she inquired.
“But my dress…” she pointed out.
“We won’t splash ya. Just pull it up and you’ll be fine,” assured Susie.
Noelle sighed before she caved.
Once Noelle approached her two partners, Kris took it upon themselves to lunge at the deer, effectively pushing her to the ground below them. Once she appeared on the surface, she was drenched with droplets of water clinging to her horns.
“KRIS!” barked Noelle, anger rich in her tone. She was practically seeing red.
Susie had never seen her so pissed off before. She knew only Kris could accomplish that reaction. Beating Noelle to it, Kris fell backwards, plummeting to the water. They reached back up to the surface, a smug grin on their lips.
Noelle pounced on Kris before running her hands up and down their sides. Kris reeled back, cackling with laughter.
“It’s been a long time since the tickle monster has attacked you, huh, Kris?” mused Noelle.
Kris made no signs of pleading or asking her to stop, merely accepting their fate.
Her eyes darted up towards Susie, who watched curiously.
“Kris and I used to brawl down in tickle fights. They usually came out victorious, though. But thankfully, I can finally have my revenge,” smiled Noelle evilly.
