A Race to 'Freedom'

Summary:

“Heroes have said that they will make it their top priority to find and save this boy from whatever danger he may be in. For now, all anyone can do is pray that Izuku Midoriya, a five year old quirkless boy, will be found and brought back to the safety of his home and the heroes.”

Izuku was now fourteen years old, and was still living in the shie hassakai yakuza stronghold. He had been taken when he was only five and no heroes had ever came to save him. Izuku still loves heroes though. It doesn't matter that he hasn't been saved by any... or that he probably never will be. Izuku still loves heroes. Heroes are really the only thing he still had that connected to the outside world and the few memories Izuku had from before he was taken. If anything, his love for heroes was a coping mechanism for all the experiments and pain he had endured over the years.

Izuku was left to wonder how much longer he would have to wait to get out of the hellish life he was living. How much longer until he was finally… Free?

BREAKING NEWS:

A YOUNG BOY REPORTED MISSING!

“Izuku Midoriya has been reported missing since this afternoon. Today is Midoriya’s birthday and he is meant to be turning five, however, instead of a celebration, the Midoriya family are busy setting up search parties for their quirkless son. Heroes and police are also busy trying to find Izuku, and they have encouraged the public to report to the police if they see anyone matching this description. Dark green messy hair, freckles dotted on his cheeks, big round green eyes, quite short for the average five year old, shy and possibly wearing hero merch.”

“Izuku was last seen with his farther walking towards Musutafu beach, and a pair of bright red shoes that were later found in an alleyway nearby were confirmed to belong to Izuku. Police were also able to track down two men who happened to be in that same alleyway a few hours before Izuku disappeared and have taken them both into questioning. So far, neither of them have given any information about the case.”

“Heroes have said that they will make it their top priority to find and save this boy from whatever danger he may be in. For now, all anyone can do is pray that Izuku Midoriya, a five year old quirkless boy, will be found and brought back to the safety of his home and the heroes.”

"I'm sorry kid, it's not gonna happen."

Izuku shot up, sitting on his bed in cold sweat and tears, covered with a grey blanket.

it happened again..

Nightmares were always the worst. unfortunately, Izuku had a lot of them. In his situation though, that's something you would expect. Any memories the greenette still had from before the day he went missing were all... blurred?  The faces of people were fuzzy and although their voices were just about clear enough to understand they were warped and certain words sounded more glitched that others. Memories that seemed important were the most corrupt, however. Almost like they had been tampered with in some way. They probably had been, considering where he was. The simple thing to say was that his memories were fucked up.

Izuku was property to Kai Chisaki, or better known as overhaul.

 He was an experiment.

At the age of five, Izuku learned what the word ‘quirkless’ really meant. To most people that word meant weak. Useless. Worthless. Stupid and inferior. To a certain Yakuza leader however, ‘quirkless’ meant an opportunity to unravel quirks all together.

________________

The day Izuku went missing was the worst day of Bakugo’s life. Bakugo had stoped talking to Izuku… Actually, he joined in with the other kids and picked on him. He had given the nickname ‘Deku’ to the greenette as an insult and he joined in on the physical bullying not too long after. Before quirks, Katsuki and Izuku were best friends. They had promised to become heroes together, with Bakugo being No.1 and Deku being his sidekick of course, and they spent basically all of their time with each other.

Then Katsuki got his quirk and Deku didn’t.

Honestly, Katsuki didn’t really know what drove him to harm Deku. Maybe it was because he didn’t want to be seen with a ‘quirkless loser’.  Or maybe it was because the nerd started to look down on him… no… no Deku never looked down on Katsuki. The blonde knew that. Deku looked up to him…

It was complicated.

Either way, Katsuki was almost as sad about the situation as Inko was. Obviously though, Inko had it way worse. She had lost a son who she loved very much and the day Izuku disappeared, Hisashi Midoriya just up and left. Inko ended up moving in with the Bakugo’s, although it took some (a lot of) persuading from Mitsuki.

So, from that shitty day onward, Katsuki Bakugo decided he would find that damn nerd and become a hero for him. It was his promise. A promise to rescue a childhood friend and protect him. A promise to be someone to look up too. In a way, it was also a promise to apologise and aim to be a better person.

________________

Izuku Midoriya had been on the news loads when he first went missing but the reports on how the search for him was going died down overtime. With no leads for the police or heroes to go off, and no evidence of where the boy could have gone the case was supposed to be closed and Izuku was supposed to be pronounced dead, but Inko had stormed all the way to the police station and begged everyone there to not close the case.

The case was never closed and Naomasa Tsukauchi was put in charge of it. He spent the time where he wasn't working on other cases or helping the heroes looking into the limited information on Izuku. He wasn’t proud to admit that he had hardly gotten anywhere over the ten years he had been on the case. He was close to giving up but something was telling him that Izuku was still very much alive and that he was a boy who desperately needed saving.

Izuku was left to wonder how much longer he would have to wait to get out of the hellish life he was living. How much longer until he was finally… Free?
