Work Text:
It wasn’t the most uncomfortable cell they’d ever been trapped in, it was clean at least. Dick was honestly more annoyed than anything. Nightwing and Red Hood had been on a routine patrol when they got jumped by some up-and-coming gang members. It should have been easy, but Dick’s shoulder had been acting up all day, and Jason was tired from pulling all-nighters on some recent cases.
So here they were: brooding across from each other in a small cell, chained to the walls. They were a little roughed up from the gangs, but none of their injuries seemed too important. Dick was just pondering how long it would take for their siblings to come get them for family dinner when Jason spoke up.
“Hey Dickie?”
Dick sighed, Jason was doing his serious voice, the one that usually started conversations that ended with both of them crying somehow. He always got into it when he had nothing else to do and started thinking too much.
“Yeah, Jay?”
There was a pause.
“You know I love you, right?”
Dick’s eyes widened. He could feel tears building under his domino and suddenly he was pulling at the chains binding him to the wall.
“Jason what’s wrong? Where are you hurt? You said they didn’t get you too bad!”
“Ay Dios mío Dickhead, relax! I can’t just tell my brother I love him?”
“You only tell me you love me when you think you’re dying Jay! Excuse me for being worried!”
Jason stared. He started laughing. Dick glared at him.
“My therapist gave me an assignment to express affection to my family this week. And neither of us are busy right now so… yeah I love you.”
“Ugh you have the worst timing. But I love you too, Little Wing”
Suddenly, there was a knock on the cell door.
It opened, and Black Bat slipped inside.
“Cassie! How long have you been here?”
The eyes of her mask crinkled in a smile. Ah, the whole conversation then. They were never gonna live this down.
“Can you just leave us here? I’d rather face the gangs than be embarrassed for showing emotion.”
“No. Family dinner.”
Dick and Jason let out equally exhausted and annoyed groans as she unchained them.
When Jason started to stand, Cass put a hand on his shoulder.
“What is it Cassie?”
Cass looked away with a faint blush on her face and signed something quickly with her hand. Oh. ASL for ‘I love you’ that’s sweet.
Dick lunged forward to wrap her in a hug.
“We love you too!”
Cass smiled.
“Glad. Still telling others that you shared feelings.”
Ugh. It was going to be a long family dinner.
