garden of your heart

Summary:

Her memories of those hazy first days gradually were replaced with the kind, loving warmth of the new family she had come to love, past memories fleeting like growing blooms. Her name was Kairi. She was a young girl, with hair the colour of the setting sun in its final moments, eyes the colour of violets, heart as strong as steel, and a home to call her own.

Chapter 1: birth by sleep

Chapter Text

The waves were quiet, placid, and serene. Perfect for a day for the two young boys who inhabited the warm island to venture out to the play island they called their own.

The boats rocked on the gentle waves, back and forth, repetitive motions of oars creating ripples in the water, spanning out from their boat, the sea, the young girl on the shore, the sandy coast-

Sora’s eyes traced back to the shore, focusing on the small dot in the distance getting ever so slightly clearer, tan skin, short, red hair, a ruffled dress all coming into view. Hurriedly rushing to the shoreline, the young boy was filled with more energy than usual somehow, already usually being filled to the brim with latent liveliness, quickly followed by a slightly older silver haired boy, curiosity piqued by any new discovery.

Said discovery was soundly sleeping on the sandy shore, sun beaming down overhead, the glistening rays of light illuminating everything around her, almost as though she was emitting the light herself.

The first thing she remembered seeing as she tentatively blinked her eyes open on the unfamiliar shores for the first time was the kind offer of an outstretched hand, her feelings of fear and uncertainty put on hold for a brief moment, replaced with a kindness and warmth in her heart.

Her room was empty and bare for the first few weeks. The girl, barely managing to speak through her tears and pleas for the whereabouts of her grandmother, had found it rough to adjust to her new life. Being taken in by the mayor was no substitute to the warmth she yearned for of her old life, the one she was torn away from.

No one in town knew anything of her origins. The girl truly was a stranger to all, an unfamiliar face from an unfamiliar place.

What they did know, however, was that she could hopefully find solace on the sandy shores of Destiny Islands.

What was once an empty room filled with nothing but wood and stagnant air became a flourishing environment for the young girl. Walls adorned with lights, shelves stacked with books (such an inquisitive young mind, all had agreed, encouraging her ever growing wonderment with the world around her), and windowsills lined with blooming flowers.

The only thing the girl had in her possession were the scattered fragments of petals left behind in her tattered pockets. That combined with her natural love of the verdant greenery scattered around the islands was enough for her to take an interest in the rich natural elements of the world. She had seemed very passionate about keeping the petals, refusing to let go of them, tightly clutched in her firm grasp. She wouldn’t let go of the last remains of her past so easily.

Weeks passed, and right next to the plants sitting idly by, swaying side to side with the gentle breeze flowing, was a jar of resin, petals encased within, perfectly frozen in time, safe forever yet just out of touch.

From that day on, the flowers in the world of Destiny Islands bloomed just a bit brighter, petals just a bit more vibrant, skies just a bit sunnier.
