Chapter Text
Clara Heartfield entered her bedroom letting out a long sigh, today, heck, this whole week has been tiring, even for someone like her. Finals were approaching, so her head had to be focused solely on the results of her exams, which was pretty impossible considering she also had to be focused on her cheerleader routine, how would the Gravesfield’s Panthers defeat their rivals if she and her colleagues didn’t support them like they should?
She plopped down on her bed and rummaged under her pillow until her fingers touched what she was looking for, she pulled out the object and stared at it for a long time, smiling.
It was her diary. She took a quick look at the clock on her bedside and decided she could kill some time while waiting for Vee to come see her. After all, she had been complaining about how tired she was during the whole morning and the basilisk promised an afternoon of cuddles and kisses to recharge her spirits, much to Clara’s delight.
Her eyes returned to the diary, a journal filled with her personal thoughts, with her deepest secrets, with all those things she would never tell anyone; flipping the pages until almost the very end, she smiled again, the last section of her diary was dedicated entirely to her cute, joyful and amazing girlfriend, Vee Noceda.
Most specifically, to her transformations, it was a recollection of all the times she saw her shifting into a strange creature and every single one of those times, her love for that beautiful basilisk had only grow more and more.
In one of her multiple journeys between the Human Realm and the Demon World, Luz and Amity had acquired a strange book called the Necronomicon, which was supposedly a journal of all the monsters and creatures than inhabited the Isles, both girls said that thing would be dangerous in the wrong hands, so hiding it in a world that wasn’t filled with magic like Earth would be a good idea.
What they didn’t know, however, was that Vee was going to investigate the book, shifting into multiple of all those creatures as time passed by.
And so, Clara recorded every single one of those times and that’s how the Cutenomicon was born.
The cheerleader took a deep breath, remembering a specific moment every time she read one of the names in her diary…
Arcturian Archivist
Clara had to admit her past social life sucked compared to her current one. How did she spend her days before Vee came along and her turned her whole world upside down?
The answer was simple: Cheerleading practice, endless gossiping with her so called ‘friends’, sleepovers that were actually endless sessions of scrolling through her social media and…
And that was it, pretty bleak, empty, pointless.
But then, that basilisk came along and now Clara’s world was filled with amazement and wonder. Just in the past week, she had:
- Got at least twenty kisses from her beautiful girlfriend
- Tried to help Maria with her homework, only to be forced to help her defeat a freaking minotaur that the goth girl summoned by accident
- Chastised Linus for the umpteenth time after the ‘artist’ had tried to use Amity’s abominations for a pottery project.
- Joined Michael and Vee for a meditation session that had somehow turned into a full hour of stargazing outside Camila’s house.
- And she had to face the ‘wrath’ of Eda, the Owl Lady, after Jamie, the little rascal, stole Owlbert and ended flying upside down the city for half an hour.
But now, after all the excitement, Clara wished she could have retained just a bit of the normalcy she used to have in her life, because the problem with spending so much time adventuring meant she didn’t have time for other things.
Specifically, to study for the very important exam she had today, worst of all, it was a math exam, which meant her head could barely process the problems she was reading, much less had any idea of how to solve them.
She was about to give up when a blinding flash of light surrounded her eyes and she gasped when she heard a voice saying:
“Don’t be scared, Clara Heartfield, I am here to assist you”
To her surprise, a tall (like seriously tall) woman dressed in blue and white robes came out of the light, her skin was grey and her eyes were pitch black and the biggest she had ever seen, if she didn’t know any better, she would say the presence looked like an alien straight out of a sci-fi movie.
Clara looked at the students and the teacher, hoping any of them would react by the apparition, but that wasn’t the case and the woman spoke again:
“They can’t see me; I’m psychically linked to you, no need to speak, just think…”
The woman smiled at her and that was when she noticed her black eyes got a yellow hue in the middle, she also saw her fangs and she realized the true identity of the ‘alien’ when she winked at her.
“Vee?” she thought.
Her girlfriend giggled a little.
“Surprise, cutiepie”
The cheerleader tried (and failed) to not blush at the nickname and when she was about to ask what she was doing there, Vee spoke again:
“I’m here to help you with your exam”
“You’re going to help me cheat?”
“Much better” Vee said, extending one of her long arms towards her, her fingers hovering just above Clara’s forehead “I transformed into an Arcturian archivist, a really intelligent creature that inhabits in an underground realm just below the Titan’s skull, my knowledge of things is vast and my capacity for comprehension is limitless”
Without saying another word, Vee the archivist walked behind her girlfriend and read the test that was still in her hands, just a few seconds later, she said:
“Done, I’ve got the answers already”
“Great” Clara thought “Give them to me”
“Not so fast” the archivist said “An archivist can’t give its knowledge just like that, an exchange has to be made”
“Let me guess” Clara said, smiling “This is your way of asking me for one of my super soft kisses”
“That would be a good idea” Vee admitted “But no, archivists only make deals that involve knowledge, I need information from you, Clara”
“Like a secret?”
“Not exactly, listen to me very carefully: Whatever you’re going to say to me, it has to be equally or more important than the knowledge you’re about to receive and it has to be a fact, it must be true, do you understand?”
The cheerleader nodded and wished Vee could do things more directly, now if she wanted to solve her math exam, she had to solve a freaking riddle first. After a few seconds of pondering what she could say, she smiled and thought:
“You know how Eda and Luz are always saying that everyone in the Boiling Isles are terrified of basilisks?”
The archivist nodded.
“My love for my basilisk girlfriend is bigger than the combined hate and fear that those witches and demons have towards basilisks…”
Vee looked at her girlfriend with a curious expression and the blonde human added:
“And that’s a fact”
“Good enough” Vee said, touching Clara’s forehead.
Immediately, the cheerleader started to write the answers to the questions, her mind coming up with the solutions as soon as she read the problems, after three minutes, she was done and she smiled at the archivist, who was still standing in front of her.
“You know what? You were right?”
“About what?”
“I do want something more…”
And with that, the archivist approached her long face to hers, Clara rolled her eyes at that and moved towards her, placing a soft kiss on her cheek, which made the archivist blush a deep shade of magenta.
“Oh, there’s one more thing”
“Isn’t there always?” the cheerleader said with a little smile.
“Since nobody else can see me, God knows how this looked”
With that, the archivist disappeared in another flash of blinding light and Clara realized everyone was looking in her direction now.
“Something wrong, Miss Heartfield?” her teacher questioned “You were acting pretty str-”
“Nothing! Nothing’s wrong!” she shouted, getting up quickly and presenting her exam.
As soon as she returned to her seat, she huffed. Damn that cute, playful, basilisk archivist…
Fire Rabbit
Clara hated winter.
She specifically hated winter nights like this one, when it didn’t matter how many blankets she covered herself with, she would still feel herself freezing and constantly shuddering. Oh, she would kill for a cup of hot cocoa or a warm chimney in front of her right now, but at 3 AM that was something unmanageable.
So she covered herself in the blankets once more, doing her best effort to conceal the sleep that she knew would be impossible to get on a night like this.
The blonde cheerleader was still cursing her luck when she heard the sound of her door creaking, she looked at it for a few seconds until she saw a tiny grey spot entering her room.
“What?” she muttered, shuddering once more.
The tiny dot hopped from its place towards her and Clara realized it looked like a bunny, only this bunny had red eyes, fangs and three things coming out of its head that looked suspiciously like antlers, but they seemed to be made out of rock.
She kept staring at the weird animal until it hopped again and again and again and in a matter of seconds, it got covered in a multitude of flames, while its antlers blazed with a red glow.
“Eep!” Clara shouted, scared.
“Sweetie, calm down, it’s me” the rabbit said quickly.
The human girl would recognize that happy, cheerful voice anywhere, she softly extended a hand towards the bunny and the creature nuzzled her fingers, making her laugh, yes, it was still covered in flames, but it felt incredibly soft and warm to the touch.
“I’m here for you” the rabbit said.
“Of course you are, Vee” Clara said with a smile and even if it was still freezing outside, her heart melted.
Clara cupped her little bunny girlfriend between her hands and placed her at the side of her pillow before asking:
“What are you doing here?”
The rabbit hopped playfully and snuggled against the side of her face, Clara smiled at the contact, sensing how her transformed girlfriend felt incredibly warm, she put a hand on her body and the rabbit scooted even closer to her, snuggling her cheeks.
“Um… Vee, is this safe?” the cheerleader suddenly questioned.
“What?”
“I mean, you’re literally made of fire and we are laying on my very flammable bed”
“Oh, don’t worry about that” Vee explained, the antlers on her head decreasing in side so she could snuggle her girlfriend even better “Fire rabbits can control their heat as they please, I’m only hear to warm you, not to set your house on fire”
“You’re doing a great job, sweetheart” the human said, petting the rabbit and smiling when Vee giggled “Will you stay here tonight?”
“Of course” the rabbit said.
Vee switched forms for a moment, turning into her human shape and giving her girlfriend a quick kiss on the lips, only to transform into a fire rabbit again and curl up between her arms.
Clara didn’t feel cold again that night and she wasn’t sure if that was thanks to the warmth of the fire rabbit or the sensation still lingering on her lips…
Newt Gladiator
Vee and Clara were enjoying a peaceful afternoon in the Noceda household, both of them laying on the ground. Vee was in her human form, except for the long, green, scaly tail curled around her girlfriend’s waist.
Behind them, Luz Noceda and Amity Blight were looking at them, both girls clinging to each other like there was no tomorrow, Vee had to admit, seeing her adoptive sister so happy brought a smile to her face.
They were watching Doctor Who (because of course they were, the only one who wasn’t obsessed with the show so far was the lilac haired witch, but she would get there eventually) when the episode was about to end and the Doctor seemed surrounded by enemies, with no escape in sight, Vee tightened her hold and Luz chuckled.
Clara ignored the sound, stroking the basilisk’s tail as softly as she could but just a few seconds later, the episode ended on a cliffhanger.
“No, it can end like that! She can’t lose!” Vee shouted, the hold on her girlfriend’s body increasing even more. Clara was about to calm her down and remind her that the Doctor had escaped from situations even more dangerous than that one, when Luz laughed again.
“What’s so funny?” the cheerleader questioned, turning around.
“Oh, nothing, nothing…” the human said casually.
But Amity continued for her girlfriend:
“It’s just, it’s cute to see how much you like Vee’s tail”
The cheerleader blushed at that, but managed to respond:
“Of course I do, I like everything about Vee”
“Yeah… But you seem to like her tail far too much” Luz countered “You are the one who’s constantly asking her for tail hugs”
“Oh, shut up” Vee intervened with a smile “I’ve seen you asking your girlfriend to use her fangs, Luz”
The human girl shrieked at that, covering her face in embarrassment and Amity gulped, saying:
“She’s not as nearly as obsessed as you are with Vee’s tail”
Clara took her girlfriend’s hand and looking at her in the eyes, said:
“It’s not my fault she looks really cute, no matter what form she takes”
Vee’s shape wobbled for a moment and the basilisk turned into her normal form, as Clara pecked her cheeks, making her blush:
“You mean that?” she questioned.
“Of course I do” the blonde girl replied quickly, kissing her again “You look really cute no matter how you look”
Vee laughed at that as Amity commented:
“I bet you’d lose it if your girlfriend had been a newt”
“Why would she be a newt?”
“Oh, I know that” Vee intervened “You’ll see, the original creature from where basilisks evolved from branched into two different species at some point in history, us basilisks, shapeshifters and magic absorbers, and gladiator newts, expert combatants and super strong demons”
“Have you ever seen one?” Clara questioned, looking at Amity.
She denied with her head, explaining that they were extinct, much like basilisks, Clara was too busy hearing her, so she didn’t notice her girlfriend altering her shape behind her. She realized something had changed when Luz gasped and she looked at Vee.
Her mouth gaped when she saw an orange and yellow bipedal creature standing in front of her, flexing her surprisingly muscular arms in an obviously exaggerated manner. Clara couldn’t help but think about that creature carrying her around in her arms and she blushed deeply at the thought.
“You have seen one now” Vee the newt said and Clara’s brain pretty much short-circuited when she heard her deep voice.
“Uh… Uh…”
She tried to come up with a response, a witty remark, a snappy compliment, a simple thought, but everything failed, she just couldn’t stop looking at her and then she felt something.
Something long, strong but gentle wrapping around her waist and lifting her p from the ground, making her crash against the newt’s body in one swift motion.
Dear god, Vee the newt had a tail, too. As soon as she looked at the face in front of her, Clara tried to feel fear, she tried to remind herself the creature in front of her was supposed to be scary, it had long teeth and a hard look, her voice sounded deep, a complete contrast from the raspy melody of Vee in her basilisk form and the human could feel the claws on her back, it didn’t hurt her, but still, the newt had claws…
“Uh…” she repeated again when Vee looked at her and Clara wasn’t sure if she was about to kiss her or eat her in the spot.
She could see her girlfriend in those eyes, she could feel her presence in the way she held her, she sensed her dear Vee in every possible way and still, she felt as she was going to pass out thanks to this new form of hers. So magnetic, so incredible, so enchanting. She wondered for a moment if she could steal a kiss from her and…
“Do you need us to leave you two alone?” Luz interrupted them and Amity started to laugh.
In an instant, Vee returned to her hybrid basilisk-human form, letting go of her girlfriend and looking away.
“Sorry!” she shrieked “I’m sorry Clara, I don’t know what came over me, I…”
“It’s okay…” the cheerleader said, patting her back and doing her best to ignore how red her cheeks were “Let’s just watch the next episode, okay?”
Vee smiled at her and took her hand, sometimes, Clara wasn’t really sure how to react to her transformations and this was one of those cases. What she did know, however, is that she wasn’t oppose to the idea of seeing the newt gladiator again.
Clara stopped reading for a moment, the smile never leaving her face. She glanced at the clock and realized they were still thirty minutes left until Vee came along.
She could read a little bit more…
