Our Last Summer

Summary:

Oswald and Edward climb the career ladder as Mayor and Chief of Staff. Everything seems to be going perfectly until Edward begins to notice slight changes in his vision, or a story of tragic love, full of understanding, ups and downs and Victor Zsasz threatening people and eating them things from the refrigerator.

Notes:

My first attempt to write something in foreign language. English its not even my third language so be indulgence.

Also for the sake of history, Oswald invites Edward to dinner about a month after saving his life in The Sirens. K? Cool, because without it, this story won't make sense (if it ever has)

I hope you like it ⸮?

Chapter 1: Prologue (?)

Chapter Text

It's been a long time since The Sirens' unfortunate mayoral party when Edward shielded him with his own body from Butch's anger and strong hands. At that moment, as he bent over the unconscious Ed, he felt as if a particle of his soul had flown out also with Edward's consciousness, when after a long moment Ed did not get up despite Oswald's painful calls, he felt the same emptiness that had hit his heart after his mother's death, loss of faith in everything. After a moment of losing faith, Oswald heard a greedy gulp of air from Ed and faith returned to him, from that moment he felt excruciating warmth whenever he looked at this man, the man who saved his life.

Someone had just sacrificed their life for him.

His Health.

And it wasn't just anybody.

Only Edward Nygma himself.

Oswald never even dared to think he deserved it. What if someone, Ed, would take such a move in the face of danger.

Already on the way to the Van Dahl manor, Oswald felt something different. As soon as the men entered the mansion, he ordered Olga to bring Ed a decorative robe, which he then changed into. At the same time, Oswald rushed into the kitchen and prepared for his friend, as best he could, lemon, honey and ginger tea. The perfect remedy for a wounded throat used by his mother. Edward was already sitting on the decorative couch. The contrast of the large and unlit living room under the cover of night and the glowing fire from the fireplace made it ... romantic? tune the whole situation. The fireplace illuminated only a small area in front of him, which half included only two sofas opposite each other, Edward sat perfectly in the middle, where the half illuminated by the fireplace with gold and the darkness of the rest of the room joined, which made Oswald look even more attractive in his eyes than before all the commotion .

Despite trouble with his knee, Oswald did not spill a drop when entering the room with a porcelain glass on a saucer.
After talking about what happened in The Sirens and hearing Edward's cunning plan to make Oswald the city's hero again. Oswald should be furious. For Ed not telling him about his actions, even if it was in good faith. But surprisingly he wasn't actually angry with him.

Then came the words that he accepted as a confession. The words "I would do anything for you" sank their teeth into a part of his heart, and they will surely stay there until the end.

"You really don't need a doctor Edward? The swelling on your neck doesn't look like a goo-" - worried Oswald was cut off by the following words from Ed.

"Thank you for asking, but you don't have to worry." he paused to take a deep breath "I have an appointment at Gotham General Hospital tomorrow anyway, so I can also have my neck examined if it calms you down on this topic" the words shot out of him like a bow "But you don't have to worry about the main reason for my visit" he cleared his throat
"Just the routine checkup needed for town hall, you know how it is" Ed added reassuringly. As if he wanted to convince himself that in fact it is.

"Well then" Oswald replied, not quite believing his friend. Because he couldn't recall the routine cheeckup notice being released to employees. Maybe Edward just made a mistake and he was about to release the health check-up information. After all, everyone makes mistakes, even such a genius like Edward. He tought. pulling his wrist from behind the sleeve on which the watch was worn. "It's quite late in the day, and today we both have been through too much for one evening, don't you think?"

"Yes, you're right, we also have a lot of work in city hall tomorrow"

"Good night Edward" - he added, getting up from the couch to help get Ed up.

"Good night " - said Ed wiht tired and cloudy voice

Both going to their bedrooms upstairs.
