Work Text:
“I’m going to investigate Dana’s apartment. Try to figure out the readings.” Egon said, packing his gear.
“Egon, I cannot believe you!” Peter let out an exaggerated scoff, “Snooping through a woman’s apartment while she’s not there. Shame on you, you dog.”.
Dana rolled her eyes at the man, turning to Egon, “Look, do whatever you feel is necessary. Alright?”. With that she handed the man her keys. If it got her one step closer from getting out of this nightmare, then so be it.
And that’s how the scientist ended up in the apartment of Dana Barrett. He passed her neighbor along the way, getting a strange look as he made his way into Dana’s apartment. If anyone asked about this, it was in the name science.
“Nice decor.” He muttered, sliding the pack off his back. The thing was a nightmare on his back sometimes, but it wasn’t the worst. He’d only resort to the proton pack if needed, using it in such an enclosed environment wasn’t the safest.
Taking out the PKE meter, beginning to search around the room. “No sign of residual contact or any apparitions for that matter.” He hummed, continuing to wander the apartment.
As he searched the apartment, the PKE meter began detecting a signal. He stopped before the coffee table, turning around until the signal was at its highest. That was when he saw it, the glowing aura behind the door. Behind the glowing door was a growling noise, Egon staring as it slowly opened.
Forgetting what he thought previously, Egon prepared to make a run for the proton pack. A startled yell left him as the chair crashed into him, forcing him to sit down.
As Egon tried to reach for his pack or the PKE meter, a scaled hand tore from the armrest grabbing his mouth and forcing him down. Two more ripped out of the chair, wrapping around the struggling scientist's waist and leg. Muffled screams left him, struggling to reach for his pack that was barely touching his fingertips.
The chair suddenly turned 90 degrees, the man staring wide eyed at the hell beast at the doorway. He had heard Ray discuss this beast, but to see it in person?
As he struggled futilely to escape, the chair pushed forward towards the beast. Muffled screams echoed in the room before the door slammed shut…and it was silent .
Hours had passed, Dana sat nervously near Janine’s desk, picking at her nails. “He hasn’t called at all yet?” She asked.
“Sweetie, he hasn’t called since you asked 5 minutes ago.” Janine remarked.
An exasperated groan was heard from the end of the room, Peter walking over to the lockers. “That’s it, we’re heading over.” He stated.
This confused the other two Ghostbusters. “We?” Winston raised a brow.
“Come on, Peter. You know Egon doesn’t like being disturbed.” Ray stated.
“Well he should’ve thought of that before taking forever.” Peter hoisted the pack onto his back, “Plus, if he gets mad we’re just there to help. I’m sure Dana would like to get home as soon as possible. So come on.”.
The other two watched him go for the Ecto-1, sighing as they followed after him. “We’ll give you the all clear as soon as possible!” Ray shouted back towards Dana. The woman could only shake her head with worry.
Seeing the men leave, the two women looked at each other then the gear on the table. “So we’re messing with these, right?”.
“Oh for sure.”.
Eventually the three made it to the apartment, Peter heading up to the door. “I still feel like this is a bad idea.” Ray stated.
“Please. What’s the worst that can happen? It’s Spengler, man’s a twig.” Peter chuckled before knocking, “Open up, Spengler! What’s taking so long?”.
There was a long silence before they heard the door start to unlock. Peter scoffed, looking back at the two, “He even locked the door. What were ya doing in-SWEET CHEESE AND CRACKERS.”.
The door opened wide, the three weren’t surprised to see Egon, but rather how he looked. The man's signature glasses were pushed almost completely off his nose, shockingly gray and silver eyeshadow was adorned, and most startling was the shimmering gold dress he wore.
“Are you the key master?” Egon asked, leaning against the door.
Peter stared at him for a long moment, slamming the door shut. “I’m done.” Winston muttered, preparing to walk away.
“Woah woah, something is clearly wrong with Egon! We can’t just go!” Ray exclaimed.
“Did you not see what that man was wearing?” Winston questioned.
Hearing the two bicker, Peter slowly opened the door again, finding Egon still there. “Are you the key master?” He asked once more.
“Uhhh, yeah sure. Yeah.” Peter nodded, putting up the most convincing face he could, “Gotta say. The drag kinda works. But I don’t think Dana would appreciate you wearing her clothes sooo let’s go take that off and get back to the firehouse? Sounds like a plan? Yeah, that sounds like a plan.”.
This was easily the weirdest thing…they had ever seen, but it was fine. It was totally fine.
Considering Peter's previous statement, you think getting Egon out of the dress would be EASY. But no, man got snappy every time they tried. “Fine! You can stay in it!” Peter groaned.
“Look, let’s just get him back to the firehouse. Try to figure…this out. Egon, let’s go. There’s um… come with me, I’m the key master!” Ray stated, not knowing how he messed up.
Egon’s eyes lit up hearing this, walking over to the man, putting his hands on his cheeks. Ray nearly jumped out of his skin startled. He had never been this close to Egon before, his heart nearly leaping out of his chest. “U-uh guys…?” Ray asked, “A little help..?”
“Nope, that’s your mess ‘key master’.” Winston stated, taking a step back, “I’m driving.”
“Shot-“ “SHOTGUN!” Peter yelled.
That’s how they got in this nightmare situation. Winston driving, Peter in passenger, and Egon and Ray in the back. “Egon, look buddy-“ “There is no Egon, only Zuul.”
Ray just looked at Winston, smacking his hand violently against Winston’s chair, “DRIVE FASTER. DRIVE FASTER!!!”.
“Ray, I’m driving as fast as I can.” Winston chuckled, driving just barely barely…below the speed limit.
“Have fun with Zuul, Keymaster.” Peter was failing to hide his laughter.
Ray was going to shout something when Egon placed a hand in his lap. “Key master.” Oh god, did he purr?
“Look, Zuul. Let’s…wait until the firehouse. I mean there’s mood lighting and-oh my god he’s touching meeee.” Ray gasped as he grabbed his cheek again, kicking Winston’s chair.
“Winston, drive faster so help-“ Ray was cut off when Egon’s lips were suddenly against his. His eyes widened, looking at the other surprised. As Egon pulled away, Ray could’ve sworn there was a red glint in his eyes.
Winston looked at the mirror, seeing what was going on. Okay, this had gone on too long. “Ray, you got your seatbelt on?” Winston asked.
“Yeah, w-AHHHH!” Ray yelped as Winston did a hard turn. Egon was flung off Ray's lap, slamming his head into Peter’s seat, knocking himself out.
Ray stared at his friend's unconscious form, then Winston, “YOU COULD'VE DONE THAT EARLIER?!”.
“He wasn’t kissing you earlier.” Peter smirked.
They eventually made it back to the firehouse, the three men hauling the unconscious man out of the car. “We will never speak of that car ride EVER again.” Ray stated, giving a pointed glare at the two.
Peter struggled not to smile, grunting as they all carried Egon inside. “Oh finally! I was wondering what-“ Dana stopped mid sentence, seeing the sight before her, “What…?”.
“Why is Dr. Spengler in a dress?” Janine questioned, folding her arms over her chest.
And why did he look so good in it?
The three men looked at the two women then each other and Peter chose to speak up. “Well, as much as I’d love to answer that, our budd Stanz can answer that. Right, Ray?” Peter smirked.
“Venkman, I swear-!” Ray looked at the man furiously, in the process accidentally letting go of Egon, the man’s head slamming into the table beneath them. A long silence filled the air, all of them looking at each other.
“Egon’s gonna come back with a concussion.” Winston scoffed, grunting as they hoisted him back up.
After they finally got him upstairs, with no more concussions, they sat Egon down in a chair. “So, what’s the plan?” Winston asked.
“Well, Keymaster, why not ask Zuul some questions when he wakes up?” Peter gave a cocky smirk, “Let’s see what he says after he kisses you again.”.
Never had Ray been more tempted to punch Peter in the face, but he repressed it as they heard a groan. “He’s waking up.” Dana said, her and Janine watching from the back of the room.
Egon slowly began to stir, opening his eyes. “Egon, buddy, can you tell us what happened?” Ray asked, hoping some form of their friend was still there.
“There is no Egon, only Zuul. I am the gatekeeper”
“As you have mentioned. Fine, we’ll do it your way.” Peter huffed, pinching the bridge of his nose, “What are you and the key master doing today?”.
Egon’s gaze wandered over to Ray, preparing to stand but Winston gently pushed him back into his seat. “We must prepare for the coming of Gozer.”
Ray stood back by Peter, thinking of the name. ‘Gozer’ and ‘Zuul’, both of those names, had sounded very familiar. “Keep him talking, let’s see if we can find out what this is.”.
“Who is Gozer?” Peter questioned, the name wasn’t ringing any bells. Hey, for all they know maybe Egon finally lost it! This was the same guy that tried drilling a hole in his head.
“The Destructor.” He simply responded.
Okay, so far they had something about Gozer the Destructor, the Keymaster, and the Gatekeeper. At least it couldn’t get any weirder-
“Do you want this body?” Egon suddenly asked, leaning back against the chair while not breaking eye contact with Ray.
There was a long pause as the three stared at each other, struggling to process the words that just came out of his mouth. “Okay… I can’t joke about this anymore, that is weird.” Peter stated.
Ray just stared at his possessed colleague stunned, especially when he stood up. “Winston had the right idea!” And turned around, only to be pulled back by Winston. “We’re stuck together in this.” He stated.
Egon walked over, pushing Winston back as he approached Ray, putting his hands on the man's shoulders. “Take me now, keymaster.” His fingers laced through the shorter man’s hair, making him look up stunned. “Look, I think-”
Ray let out a startled yelp as Egon pulled him down onto the ground with him, the others starring in shock. “I feel like I’m about to witness something I shouldn’t.” Janine headed down the stairs, Winston following after her.
“Traitors!” Ray yelled, looking up at Egon, “Look, buddy. This clearly isn’t you, okay? Let’s just slow it down. Buddy, you're possessed okay. This isn’t right.”. He managed to avoid another kiss, pushing Egon off of him with Peter’s help.
“I need you inside me.” Egon gasped, trying to sit up.
“Buddy, you have way too many people inside you right now.” Peter said, getting smacked in the back of the head by Dana.
Egon tried sitting up again, resulting in Ray laying him back down, blushing when he saw the dress rolling up. “Look, you just lay down and relax, okay?” Ray said, rolling the dress back down, “Let me and Peter worry about this. You just rest.”.
Dana walked over, trying to understand what was going on. “So this thing… was in my apartment?” She asked.
“Guess it did the ol switcheroo when Egon showed up.” Peter said, looking at the dress then Dana. “Don’t.” She warned.
Peter and Ray kept Egon on the floor, trying to see if they could talk through to him. “Egon, it’s us.” Peter stated, “Your buddies.”.
As he tried again, Egon’s breathing began picking up, looking at them. “There is no Egon, only Zuul.” He said once again, his voice much deeper this time.
“Guys, I don’t think trying to reach Egon is going to work.” Dana stated.
Before either could respond, there was a loud banging on the front door. “Now what?!” Peter groaned, getting up.
“Wait, what do we do with him?” Ray asked, looking at his friend worried.
“Tie him to a chair or something, I don’t give a crap!” Peter exclaimed, walking back to Egon, sitting him back on the chair.
“Boys, get down here!” Janine shouted.
An agitated groan left Peter, turning to see Ray and Dana already heading downstairs. “Oh course.” He scoffed, looking around before giving up and taking off his belt. “You're gonna stay right here, okay?” He tied Egon’s wrist to the chair, running down the stairs after the others. In his rush he hadn't noticed how poorly he tied the others wrist, but Egon did.
Peter hurried down the stairs, finding Janine walking a disheveled looking man in. “Louis?” Dana looked shocked, seeing her neighbor of all people.
The man looked at Dana, a dazed look in his eyes. “Are you the gatekeeper?” He asked.
Ray blinked in surprise, taking out the PKE meter finding a strong signal on him. “Holy cow!” He gasped.
“Why didn’t you do that to Egon sooner?” Winston asked.
“I was too busy getting thought of as the keymaster!” Ray snapped, glaring at the other man.
“Wait! That’s it, Egon’s the gatekeeper.” Dana stated, looking at the other men.
Hearing it out loud made it click. Whatever got to Egon got to Louis too! “Alright, buddy-“ “Vinz.” “Okay, Vinz. What’s your deal?” Winston asked.
“Gozer the traveler. He will come in one of the pre chosen forms during the rectification of the.” He was explaining things but they lost track of what he was saying. Something about rectification and other things like that.
“You know what, maybe Egon will understand him. Clearly whatever’s possessing him has this guy too.” Peter scoffed.
Winston headed upstairs, going to grab the other scientist when he saw the chair empty. “Guys!” He yelled, running to the chair. The first thing he noticed was a belt tied around the chair arm and a pair of familiar glasses that had been abandoned on the chair.
Ray’s eyes widened seeing the glasses, running over. “No no, he’s gone!” He gasped, picking the glasses up before looking at Peter, “What happened to making sure he was secure?!”.
“Hey, I was getting yelled at!” Peter exclaimed.
Before the two men could continue bickering, Dana stood between them. “Enough, okay?! Arguing won’t help you guys, look we need to find Egon. In a weird way this is good. Don’t we want the gatekeeper and keymaster separated?” She asked.
“She’s got a point. Plus, it can't get any worse right?” Janine asked.
How wrong they were. The group heard the front door open, seeing Walter Peck entering the fire station. “What now?” Winston muttered, all of them heading down.
Following Peck was an officer and some sort of city worker. “Look, we got a lot going on right now. Can you come back later?” Peter asked.
The man ignored them, continuing to walk forward. “Excuse me, just where do you think you're going?” She demanded.
“Step aside, ma’am. Or I’ll have you arrested for interfering with the police.” Peck stated.
The red headed woman looked up at him with a glare, before slamming her heel into his ankle. “You cannot come into here after the night that we had here you suited up monkey!” Janine screamed.
“Janine calm down!” Dana shouted.
Her interference was too late, the officer grabbing the woman’s wrist. “You can’t be serious!” Dana exclaimed
“Woah let her go!” Ray yelled.
“We have a cease and desist for this place! If it’s anything like that erratic woman, this place needs to be shut down!” They headed downstairs, the three ghostbusters following frantically, shouting various reasons they shouldn’t do this.
“Shut everything off now!” Peck demanded.
Ray hurried in front of them, trying to stop the man. “That would be extremely dangerous, I promise you we don’t want to shut it down!” Peck demanded.
Ray grimaced, standing in front of the controls with the other two men and Louis. Despite their protest, they refused to listen, and the city worker flipped the switch. The lights turned red, an alarm going off. “Shit, we gotta move!” Winston yelled, everyone hurrying back up the stairs. Everyone made their way through the first floor, Peter ensuring Dana and Janine were in front of him as they ran.
All of them rushed out, just as the building was blown open from the containment being shut down. A geyser of red and orange flew from the roof, the ghost flying free. In all the chaos, they hadn’t noticed Louis wandering off. “Where’s Louis?” Dana asked, running over once they were all sure everyone was okay.
“We lost the keymaster too?!” Ray exclaimed, going to run ahead only to be stopped by Peck and the officer, “We don’t have time to talk! We need to go!”.
“Hold it! I want these men arrested! Captain, these men are in criminal violation of the Environmental Protection Act and this explosion is a direct result of it!” Peck exclaimed.
“Excuse me?!” Dana scoffed.
“Why I outta-!” Janine kneeled down, taking off her heel going at the man.
The woman was pulled away, all five of them forced into police cars. Prison, this is not where they needed to be!
Ray anxiously paced in the cell, holding onto the familiar pair of glasses like a life life. “We need to get out of here. Who knows where Egon and Louis are!”.
“There isn’t much we can do in here.” Dana grimaced, holding her head. God, she couldn’t stop thinking about what could have happened if she hadn’t asked Egon to search her apartment. It was nearly her.
As they tried to figure out their plan in prison, they were able to come across a map. A map that revealed how the building Dana and Louis lived in was built and who built it. It was all a way to bring Gozer and the apocalypse! Albeit, explaining this to the mayor wasn’t the best, but Peter did enjoy insulting Peck when they were finally allowed to go.
“What about us?” Dana asked, seeing the three men getting in the Ecto-1.
“Get somewhere safe! We’ll handle Gozer and whatever ghost baddies he brought.” Peter stated, climbing in the car.
Janine threw her hands in the air as they drove off, looking at Dana flabbergasted. “Men, I swear!” She exclaimed.
It took some time to travel, even longer to finally reach the rooftop. As they reached the rooftop, they found Egon and Louis already there. “Oh no, the keymaster and gatekeeper have already been linked!” Ray exclaimed.
“Linked? What does that mean?” Winston questioned.
“It means they um… well… um, you know.” Ray struggled with the words, feeling his face flushed.
“Oh my god, Egon wanted to-” “DON’T!” Ray interrupted.
The two stood on opposite sides of a stone slab, raising their arms up. Thunder cracked above them in the blood red sky, fog covering the ground. To the three’s shock the lightning struck the two, the energy coursing through them and striking the door before them. “Egon!” Ray yelled, Winston preventing him from running forward.
The two men shook violently as the energy coursed through them, slowly bending down onto all fours and changing into demon dogs.
After transforming, the two growled at them. Peter slowly looked at Ray, “I always knew Egon was a bitch.”.
“I am going to push you off this building.” Ray hissed out.
“Right right, let’s put this puppy in the pound!” Peter smirked, getting looks, “What?! How often am I going to get to use these?!”.
The three made their way to the foggy staircase, trying to ignore the two demon dogs looking ready to tear into them. At the top of the staircase was what looked like a temple, the doors slowly opening up.
As the light faded, a figure came from it. “It’s a girl.” Ray muttered, seeing the figure come closer. The figure walked up to the demong dog that was once Egon, stroking it’s head.
Peter felt his knuckles go white from how tightly he gripped his proton gun. All jokes aside, that was still one of his oldest friends. He’d be damned if he let this weird chick keep him as some lap dog.
“I thought Gozer was a man.” Winston said.
“It can be whatever it wants to be.” Ray retorted.
“Yeah, we’re not gonna let her get past us!” “Yeah.” “Go get her, Ray!”.
Upon hearing his name, Ray looked at his friend again. How many times was he going to be thrown under the bus tonight?
Looking up the stairs to see Gozer and… the demon dogs, Ray nervously swallowed. Don’t think of that thing as Egon, don’t think of it as him.
Making his way up the stairs, Ray slowly approached Gozer, hoping to talk it down. It did not work in the slightest though. “Are you a god?” Their voice echoed. Ray looked back at Peter, unsure of how to respond. He wished Egon was there to help, he’d know what to do.
“N-No?”
“Then die!” It turned towards them, unleashing an electric blast that knocked them all back. The blast was almost powerful enough to send them off of the ledge.
All of them were on the verge of falling, struggling. Peter managed to turn himself over, looking up seeing Gozer preparing another blast. “Boys, we gotta move!!!” He yelled, struggling as they were all on top of each other.
Gozer had a sadistic grin on their face, preparing to unleash the lightning when something blasted past them. They looked up and so did the three men. To their shock Janine and Dana stood on the rooftop, armed with proton packs, Janine was even wearing Egon’s suit while Dana was still in her normal clothes. “Who you gonna call?” Dana smirked, looking back at them.
The distraction allowed the three to climb back up. “Ray, when someone asks if you’re a god you say YES!” Winston snapped, struggling to help the two up.
All five of them lined up, armed with the proton guns as they stared down at Gozer. “Heat 'em up!” Peter yelled, all of them turning the guns on. As they got their weapons ready, Gozer crouched down with a feral growl. “Let’s show this prehistoric bitch how we do things downtown!” Dana stated.
“That’s what I was gonna say!” Peter exclaimed.
“Gotta keep up.” She coyly responded.
They all fired, watching Gozer jump above them and land behind them. “I doubt that was supposed to happen.” Janine grimaced.
“Try full stream!” Ray exclaimed.
“Aim for the flattop!” Peter yelled, all of them firing at Gozer once again. The being vanished before their eyes, all of them looking at each other. A relieved look formed on the group's face, looking at where Gozer once was. Despite how eager they were, Dana looked around unconvinced. “Guys… if it’s over… then why are they still demon dogs?” She asked, looking back at the stairs.
The others turned back as well, seeing Egon and Louis hadn’t changed back. The color seemed to fade from Peter and Ray, the two looking at each other. “If it’s gone, shouldn't they have turned back?!” Winston asked.
Before any of them could respond, the statues above them shook, coming down hard. “Everyone watch out!” Peter yelled, moving Dana back as a gargoyle statue broke off.
They backed away, hearing Gozer go off on a tangent. Something about the form of the destructor. Trying not to think about anything was… really hard. Ray internally screams realizing it was his thought that Gozer chose.
Great. What a great day. My best friend gets turned into a demon dog and now we're going to be killed by my childhood. Perfect.
Peter looked at Ray with a disappointed look, slowly approaching his friend. “I-I couldn’t help it. It just popped in there.” Ray said.
“What? What just popped in there?” Peter demanded.
“I-I tried to think-”
“Oh my god, look!” Janine cried out, pointing behind them.
All five of them turned around, wide eyed upon seeing what was coming for them. The Stay Puft Marshmallow Man. “Are you…” Dana put her fingers to her lips, unable to finish her sentence. All they could do was stare at the moving fluff monster.
“Well… You know what, I’ve seen enough weird stuff today. Egon flirting with Ray, Egon talking in tongues, Egon turning into a demon dog. But this? This takes the cake.” Peter scoffed, seeing a little too calm for everyone’s liking.
The sentence tempted Ray to push the man off the ledge, but he kept his cool. “I tried to think of the most harmless thing. Something I loved from my childhood. Something that could never ever possibly destroy us. Mr. Stay Puft.”.
“Nice going, Ray.” Peter groaned. Ray continued to babble on about his childhood, talking about how wholesome those times were. Yeah, clearly today had finally cracked Ray. “Ray has gone bye bye, does anyone have any plans?” Peter asked.
“Well, if it’s a marshmallow can’t we roast it?” Dana asked, “We have the most intense blowtorches to date!”.
A roar filled the air, the giant beast making it’s way over. “Now or never!” Peter yelled, all of them getting on the ledge and blasting it. It was doing damage but it wasn’t enough to put it out. All of them tucked into a corner, trying to avoid the flames.
“What’s the plan?” Winston asked, the building shaking as it climbed up.
The five sat around each other when it finally hit Peter. “Okay, I have the smartest or stupidest idea ever! Hear me out, we cross the streams.” Peter explained.
“More fire power, that’s good-” “Woah, woah!” Ray interrupted, “Egon specifically said crossing the streams could endanger us all!”.
“Well last I checked Mr. Four Eyes is currently a demon dog ready to tear into us! Look, our chances are better than nothing!” Peter said.
Dana looked at the man beside her, nodding as she gave his shoulder a squeeze. “We’ve come this far, let’s take this thing out!” Dana was the first up, running to the door and the others followed suit.
They all ran over, grimacing seeing the two dogs guarding the entrance. Ray bit his lip, looking over. Please let this reverse this all, please let that slim chance work. One by one they all fired at the gate, the Stay Puft monster climbing up behind them. Slowly they brought their streams closer, Dana and Janine looking at each other. “It’s been an honor finding another girl who ain’t afraid to fight dirty!” Janine stated.
“Same goes to you and your killer heels!” Dana shouted back.
All of them screamed, their streams touching. The door went up in flames, all five falling back as the temple exploded. Bits of marshmallow fell from the sky, covering all of the frightened pedestrians that ran amok.
Slowly the five got up, gasping at the realization they were still alive. “We’re alive. We’re actually alive!” Winston chuckled, getting up.
Ray winced as he sat up, his eyes landing on the demon dogs, his eyes widening seeing they had reverted to what appeared to be stone. “Egon!” He got up, running over, Peter and Winston taking off after him.
The man hurried up the stairs, surprised hearing muffled noises coming from the husk. Hastily he began prying at it, shocked that it began crumbling. As the rocky husk broke around him, Egon coughed loudly. “Spengler! Welcome back buddy!” Peter cheered.
“What on Earth are you going on about?” Egon winced, Ray helping him out of the husk. The scientist tried to gather his bearings but struggled to see.
“Ah, gotcha four eyes.” Peter swiped the glasses from Egon, putting them on Egon’s face.
The man looked around, confused at his colleagues and even more confused seeing Dana and Janine pulling a man out of a similar husk. “I have a very vague recollection of what just happened.” He groaned, Winston and Ray helping him stand, “Why on earth am I wearing a dress?”.
“Look, there are so soooo many things we need to catch you up on your dog.” Peter chuckled, “I mean how often does something get to say they lost their virginity to a ghost?”.
There was a very long pause, Egon staring at his friend in disbelief, “Peter… you’re aware I have a daughter right? I’m not a virgin.”. Why were they talking about this? He had so many questions.
“WHAT?!”
“I got him.” Dana chuckled, walking over to guide away the flabbergasted Peter.
With Peter’s erratic behavior gone, Ray sat Egon down on the stone bench. “How are you feeling? No possession after effects, voices in your head.” The need to be with the keymaster . His body did a whole shudder at the thought, hoping he could somehow suppress the memory.
“I have the faintest memory of it all. I went to Dana’s house and it was all a blur mostly. But I remember something about Zuul, looking for a keymaster, and Gozer.” The man was so perplexed, it was honestly funny seeing Egon so confused, “What happened?”.
“Well, you got the most important parts. You went to Dana’s house and were kind of possessed by the gatekeeper.” He could see the color fade from Egon’s face, who looked at Louis. The two men made eye contact before looking away from each other flustered.
“I don’t need to hear anything else, Ray. I know… I know enough about Gozer to understand what happened. Let’s just return to the firehouse and forget this happened. Okay?” Egon asked, his face flushed.
“Right, sounds fair. Think we could all use a break after that insanity.” Ray nervously chuckled.
The man walked ahead, stopping when he heard, “Ray!. He stopped, turning around seeing Egon walking up to him.
Egon stopped in front of him, struggling with his words. He was a man of science, not emotion or really communication. Was never good at handling his emotions but he wanted to do this properly. “I um… My memories of the past day have been very vague, but I do remember you in a lot of it. H-How I treated you. I wanted to say I’m sorry.”.
“Egon, it’s fine rea-”
“Please, let me finish. I wanted to say thank you. You stuck by me no matter what happened.”
A smile formed on Ray’s face, “Having you back is thanks enough. We missed having the brains.”.
There was even the faintest of a smile on Egon’s face, looking at his friend, “Well… allow me to make it up to you still. Dinner tomorrow?”.
“Egon, you can’t cook.” Ray remarked.
The scientist paused, thinking before looking at him, “There is this Mexican place down the block from the fire station we can try out.”.
“You know what? I’d like that, buddy.”
