Confession(s)

Summary:

Kokichi would probably spend the rest of his life confessing to Shuichi, but it's probably okay.

Notes:

Welcome back lovelies! 💖

Work Text:

Kokichi Oma was certainly his own character.

He knew what he needed, what he wanted and what he deserves.

He didn't realize he needed Shuichi Saihara.

The first time he stood before Shuichi, he felt his resolve break. That's never happened to him before, he always knew what he needed to do and had no problem doing it — god forbid he even stuck around long enough for the consequences.

When he stared at the confused and waiting features pointed at him, he wondered if this was the best course of action. He didn't want to deal with the consequences, and he didn't want to ruin anything.

"Kokichi? Is something wrong?"

This wasn't the time.

"Haha, I got you all worried!" Kokichi smiled past his broken decision, "I just wanted to say we should hang out, that's all."

"Oh. You dragged me to the school confession corner to ask me to go hang out..?"

"..This is the school confession corner?"

"Yes." Shuichi laughed softly at him, though it was to make fun of him, "You can tell me anything here, y'know. What happens here stays here, unless you don't want it to."

Kokichi didn't realize he needed someone so incredibly in tune with his own feelings. He should have known Shuichi would have put together his puzzle pieces already.

"Fine then!"

Kokichi finally pulled out the flowers he was less than good at hiding behind his back. Maybe he should have thought this through more, but whatever, Shuichi never made fun of him for not knowing what he's doing.

"Shuichi Saihara," Kokichi announced, pushing the flowers against the taller boys chest, ones he chose just a little while ago, "I really like you."

He felt his ego grow at the way Shuichis face still turned red, even after probably knowing where this was going. He continued when Shuichis hands shakily reached out to grab the flowers like he was going to explode.

"I mean, this is no lie. I really like you. Will you go on a date with me?"

Shuichi gave him a very slow nod, Kokichi narrowing his eyes as he watched Shuichis eyes shine brighter, until he was concerned as something rolled down his cheeks.

"Ah, fuck," Shuichi cursed, a smile wide on his lips as he kept laughing at himself, "S-Sorry, I cry when I'm really happy."

Suddenly arms wrapped around Kokichi, and he blushed as he hugged back, listening to the voice in his left ear as he felt the flowers brush against his back. Shuichi was thin, but pleasantly taller than him. He liked people shorter than him typically, but it was hard to find since he was 5'3. Besides, he likes their height difference, it makes Shuichi being the submissive one more embarrassing.

"I was wondering when you'd ask me." Shuichi hummed in his ear as his breathy voice shook, "I really like you too Kokichi, I would love to go on a date."

"Grossss, don't cry on me!"

He gasped in horror when he felt Shuichis tear and shot covered face wipe against his shoulder. He felt a laugh suddenly rip from his throat, hearing one join his in harmony.

Kokichi recalled the time he asked Shuichi out the first time fondly. It was the first time, however it was not the last, he was sure he re-asked out Shuichi at least every month because he kept breaking up with him

Shuichi always seemed to say yes like it was routine though. He really liked that about his lover, he was never bothered by his emotional outbreaks.
It helped ground him, most of the time. Sometimes, he loathed how much Shuichi could be less than empathic, but he also loved it because he didn't like being pitied. His boyfriend gave him all the love he wanted, and he was alright with whatever flaws the bag of meat came with, even if it was a lack of using emotional context.

They were much older now, even having their own jobs, but they lasted through college.
They lived separately, because Kokichi knew he'd never be able to live with Shuichi so soon after highschool — he would probably get them to both call in every day for more morning cuddles. At least they had the same days off, date days were easy.

He glanced over to his lover, who was reading a book on the other side of the couch.

Sometimes he doubted Shuichi. He doubted him alot, actually.
Why would someone like him love someone like himself? Kokichi knew he was alot to handle, he came with too many flaws and never seemed to be able to figure out his own feelings. Why would Shuichi ever want to spend time with someone like that, he was definitely lying because he felt bad.

It was quiet moments like these they shared together, when Shuichi was unaware of the eyes admiring him, that he noticed Shuichi really had no reason to lie. Shuichi wouldn't be here if he didn't want to be here, because he wasn't gaining anything.
He really did love Shuichi, and sometimes it made him feel sick with guilt.

"Hey Shuichi."

"Yes my love?"

"Do you wanna go out with me?"

"...We've been dating for years now."

"Is that a no?"

Shuichi chuckled as he set down his book. "No, it's not. Sure, I'll go out with you, where to?"

"Our favorite spot."

"Okay, let's go."

Shuichis knowing eyes were on him the whole way out towards the car. He knew the look and what it wanted, but it didn't ask him directly, it told him it would wait for the answer.

He smiled softly. He really didn't know he wanted someone like Shuichi, but he knew he needed him.

Notes:

No idea where this was going! This series is probably going to be out of order, wishing the people who don't know which ones come first luck.

Sometimes I like to compare kudos and views per one of these I update, and I like to think my writing is so good I make you guys forget to kudo. Not that I care, but I do like comments! 😊💖

Edit — forgot to mention the fact these are sort of based off of my old relationship! Sorry if these are strange to anyone but me, but theyre accurate to my life. Stan my ex for grounding me when I'm emotional 😋
